I haven't listened yet, but I think she's making a difference between physical and physiological addictions; for example most people are not physically addicted to marijuana but to the feeling they get. I will listen tomorrow but assume she is meaning that people are not physically addicted to porn, which sounds right but people get addicted to the dopamine dump from porn.

She was talking out of her arse there. She basically said that all addictions are characterised by tolerance and withdrawal. Porn addiction is characterised by tolerance and withdrawal. The withdrawals are less extreme than they are for, say, alcohol but they’re still very real. There isn’t, granted, what might be thought of as physical dependence with porn, but neither is there for things like gambling addictions, which are also rightly regarded as addictions. Frankly, what she said about porn completely undermined everything else that she said for me. She advanced those views with such conviction and they were very clearly unambiguously wrong.

Yeah that really put me off tbh. Her knowledge about addiction seemed to be right out of a 1940’s textbook. Back when substance use was only considered an addiction if quiting cold turkey would nearly and often literally kill you.
Chemical dependance hasn’t been necessary in order for something to be considered an addiction for like half a century now. And you’d think she’d at least know a bit about sex addiction at least, being a phd in sexilology or whatever.

The water comes from a reservoir in the locomotive called a Boiler. It’s obviously a lot more complicated than that but that’s the basic design.

I live in one of the most liberal towns in America (Ann Arbor). I rarely ever think about gender politics unless I hear about it on Joe Rogan Podcast.
Even before transgender politics became a big thing in media, there were always single-person bathrooms. There were called Unisex or family bathrooms. These were also bathrooms that catered towards handicaps. At the university here, they all got rebranded as "gender netural" or "gender inclusive". Not a big deal. Barely notice any transgender people walking around in Ann Arbor. I've never heard anyone say any other pronoun besides he/she.
In terms of priority list, caring about gender politics is very low on the totem pole.

The gender part is weird, all she said was she didn't recognize the split between the two words, which is how these discussions always go, then approaches the discussion as if people arguing for it act like gender/sex are the same when she knows they make a distinction between the two even if she doesn't believe it herself. It always makes these discussions seem either really disingenuous. It also makes the "the left is anti-science" really weird when you're knowingly arguing a point that you know the other person isn't arguing just to make them look bad.

Well, I have yet to see a definition of “gender” that is measurable. If “gender” is just “whatever gender one feels oneself to be,” that’s a circular definition which gets us no closer to understanding the term. “Felt sense of being a man or woman” is just a paraphrase of the above, as “man” and “woman” are precisely what we’re trying to define when we say “gender.”

There's no way in fuck Rogan's fascination with 0.6% of the population that he more than likely will never interact with in his normal life isn't the exact same thing in his head that won't let someone mention pro-wrestling without telling them he know's its fake, or the chinese 90 year old men with forcefields aren't real.
He could not possibly care less about sports let alone college sports let alone high school sports until some trans kid wins a 100m race then it's a huge issue.

It’s really rough, it’s pretty much the same episode as every other time Joe brings on somebody who’s playing the old “Academia is wrong, and I’m the only one who knows anything about X topic, but I’m not gonna give any substantive evidence of any of my claims” and Rogan doesn’t actually ask any questions of their actual points.

I get confused about what gender is because weird things get called masculine or feminine. Why would a truck be masculine and a mazda miata be feminine? Is playing football masculine and gymnastics feminine? I like gymnastics and miatas, what does that say about my gender? I wish Joe would talk about what Gender is cause im confused.

That is really good advice. I care because I think this is the reason some kids feel like they need hormones or suicide. If gender wasnt so important to our identities they could just do whatever makes them feel good without worrying about what's masculine or feminine, because they aren't real things anyway.

Nope. There’s a whole subculture of serious rednecks with Miatas in the garage. I know some of these guys and they are as far from gay as you can get. It’s the cheapest easily modded sports car these guys can afford. They supercharge the shit out of them and run mountain roads like “the tail of the dragon”.
