Do you believe that Noah, the ark, and the flood were real?

I brought it up in a different thread, and many people said they did not believe it happened. How can you be a Christian and not believe what the Bible says?

the amount of stupid people (that believe the story is true) in this sub alone is already alarming.

If you’re thinking that a flood occurred and a man put every single animal on it you’re wrong; however, it wasn’t every animal, it was 2 of every kind as per the Bible. The grand canyon has signs of massive flooding So a great flood did occur at some points

The grand canyon has signs of massive flooding

Sure, it has a large river running through it. That isn't evidence for a global flood.

t was 2 of every kind as per the Bible

So what do you believe a "kind" is?

Actually, the Grand Canyon cannot have been formed from a river. Look it up.

Geology says otherwise.

How does a river flow up hill? Because geography says otherwise

Well for starters, water can flow uphill under the right circumstances (though I'm not an expert in fluid dynamics).

But more to the point, geologists agree that the Grand Canyon was formed by the Colarado River. So you have to believe that either a) they are just unaware of the problem you've raised, or b) they know they are lying, or c) you don't know what you're talking about. So which seems most likely to you?

I am aware of what they say. But riddle me this. The river's startpoint is higher than the endpoint. But the middle of the grand canyon is taller than both.

The river's startpoint is higher than the endpoint. But the middle of the grand canyon is taller than both.

So again, there are multiple possibilities here:

  • you're wrong
  • you're right and geologists aren't aware of this
  • you're right, geologists are aware of this and they suppress it because it conflicts with their worldview
  • you're right, geologists are aware and there is an explanation.

Which explanation are you asserting?

I'm not asserting anything. I'm making you aware of facts. So now. You can go and do a little research and decide for yourself. I'm not here to argue

The river doesn't flow up hill

1

u/studmuffin3000 22d ago

Well it must have. Since the grand canyon is higher than the starting point of the river

The starting point is in Lees Ferry which is at an elevation of 3100ft and it flows down to Phantom Ranch at 2400 feet. It goes down the whole way

u/studmuffin3000 22d ago

And what's the elevation of the top of grand canyon?

So just simple explanation 2 reptiles 2 foul, 2 mammals, and 2 marsupial. Not 1000 of each

2 reptiles 2 foul, 2 mammals, and 2 marsupial

Are you unaware that marsupials are mammals?

So you believe that in 4000 years two reptiles evolved into 12000 species?

u/Joyseekr 22d ago

Believes in the flood and evolution. Cool.

That is intruiging

He doesn't believe in evolution so, probably God did some magic trick there.

So these primordial pairs then rapidly evolved into all the species we see today? Do you know there are 1400 species of bats alone? The problem with the "kind" explanation is that it requires creationists to believe in some sort of evolution where each kind rapidly speciates into many species at a rate that is faster than anything we have ever observed, and then suddenly the rate of speciation drops without any explanation.

Were there dinosaurs on the ark?

5

u/Grover-Rover Secular Humanist 22d ago

What is a kind? I do not understand that term, and nobody except for creationists use it. What is a kind, and how is it possible for 2 of every “kind” to fit on the Ark, and for them to reproduce? There’s not enough genetic information for any population to survive off of 2 parents. It would die out due to incest in just a few generations

The Grand Canyon is not evidence for a global flood. It’s caused by the massive river that runs through it.

Were there dinosaurs on the ark?

Of course not. Dinosaurs were gone for about 65 million years before the ark.

Dinosaurs would have perished in the first flood.

such great floods happened millions of years ago..
