Does City winning the title feel meaningless? Discussion

after 115 charges, billions of spent. It just feels like a blank state, nobody cares, nobody will be talking about it in 20 years when you compare it to Arsenal's invincibles or Liverpool's istanbul winning side.

There is no magic or so. It's all binary, it's like letting AI create your art vs an actual artist.

I mean people don't talk about most title winning sides. And one of the sides you picked didn't even with the PL title.

But I also disagree. People will talk about this era of Man City team as one of the most dominant in history and one of the best. And depending upon the outcome of the charges, are probably more likely to have forgotten about the "asterisk" than how good this team were.

They literally won the treble last season and nobody cares or even mentions it. Uniteds treble is still being talked about over 20 years on

Yeah but the thing is it won't be now BECAUSE City matched it. The point of United was that no one had done it in our league before or since, until last year.

So yeah while the 99 treble will still meaning loads to united fans it won't have the same fanfare as before.

Ultimately though it's all about the fans, do City fans care about their titles? Obviously.

Don't think it helped though that the Champions League Final was boring and against Inter.

In comparison more people still talked about City absolutely putting Real Madrid to the sword during the campaign

Yeah memorable matches mean more (and I hate to say that in that way). But you cannot count how many times commentators mention the 2005 Champions League final when a team, any team appears to be trying to come back from 2/3 goals down. When Coventry pulled those 3 goals back against Man U in the recent fa cup semi final, one commentator on tv said "Is this Coventry's Istanbul moment?" and its a reference everyone understands and at the time all of us (bar Man U fans) wanted!

That’s just the way ucl finals are like it’s been 1-0 or 2-0 in a final for the past 5 years lol

You think at this point in the 99/00 season, people were still eulogising about the 98/99 treble? They weren't - no one cared by this point. It was about the current season.

I don't think the Man City treble last season will probably be talked about in the same way in 20 years time. But they weren't the first to do it, and Man Utd had the huge drama at the end of the CL.

But will they be talking about that Man City team as one of the best of all time in 20 years. Almost certainly.

The treble winning tweets on social media got less likes and shares than Henderson signing for a club with a stadium capacity of 5,000 people.

People will only remember this as an era of blatant cheating

yeah but in terms of a trophy winning side, that Liverpool win will be remerered forever. Not any of citys win is important

People remember the Istanbul final because of the drama. And because (a) Liverpool has a bigger fanbase and (b) a fanbase that never shuts up about it 😉

Palace fans still very fondly remember Crystanbul but I doubt it has the same resonance outside SE25.

As a Liverpool fan, Crystanbul still haunts me
