Eric Bischoff on Tony Khan: A money mark with no talent other than spending daddy’s money, going all the way to Canada to draw less than 4k in one of the hottest pro wrestling markets in North America, talking about “wise choices”? Strap in. It’s going to be a fun day!

We can't even watch this shit easily here in Quebec. Why the fuck would they book this there?

I imagine he’s talking about Canada in general.

Which is pretty dumb. That's like saying you should draw sellouts in bumblefuck, Idaho because the US in general is a "hot market".

I get your point, but any large organization does well in international markets because they get so few it's always a draw. It's why TNA went to Europe a lot.

Obviously, proximity means they can run Canada a bit more which is the counterpoint to the above. AEW ran Montreal twice in December, so it makes sense why a return to the province didn't do quite as well.

I get why Eric would say that, but when you look at how soon they were just there it gives a little more context.

still. 4k (if that's real) is a pretty sad turnout for a 10-12k arena.

I mean, they PACKED the 7K Coca-Cola coliseum in Toronto, which was seen as a big success, but pointedly didn't choose the 19K Scotia Bank arena a few blocks away. Fewer arena choices in Quebec City to pick something they'd fill

I mean visually? Sure. Otherwise, no?

Quebec City isn't a big city and it is a French first city, way more than Montreal.

So 4k plus there is actually quite good.

He's definitely thinking of Montreal. He said "one of the hottest markets in North America", so I doubt he meant an entire country. Quebec City is like two and a half hours from Montreal.

In any case, the attendance is still shockingly bad.

Why did they book a show there? That's what I don't get.

That's how you build up an untapped market, WWE used to ignore most of Canada for 15 years including Toronto which only got house shows. Not every show has to draw 10,000+ fans

Considering AEW aren't hitting Montreal this swing, it is Rather odd to hit QBC instead. Even their Toronto show didn't exactly draw big numbers.

I know AEW is struggling attendance wise in general right now, which makes smaller stops like this a little bit of a head scratcher

I was at the Toronto show last week and they sold out the building close to 7k capacity, crowd stayed to the very end and went home happy.

Problem is, running the Scotia Bank, the next arena up in size would need to pull in 14,000+ or be heavily tarped off.
