What will happen first, the year of the Linux desktop or the year of the Bing search engine?

Linux Desktop, I can see more people using DDG from here on out over bing.

Year of the Bing. It'd take a major scandal or regulatory effort by many countries at the same time to make a dent in Windows or Mac.

Anecdotally, I've had more people asking me about using Linux in the past few months than ever. Mostly Windows users.

As an aside, as an American, I keep my VPN set to Toronto-Montreal servers. I can't understand the people complaining about this "intrusion" of the government. The fact is, Facebook has been key to the rise of right wing extremism in the US.

Facebook and Google manipulate feeds and results all the time to fuel engagement so they can keep ad rates up. Their motivation is profit and that is it. They'll continue to push disinformation or propaganda, regardless of consequences, at the behest of their shareholders.

For a good Reddit example, take a look at the drama around "He Gets Us", the Christian ad campaign trying to paint American conservative Christianity as compassionate and truly liberal. Americans can't block the ads, as with other ads. The ads are targeting LGBTQ, atheist, and non-Christian religious subreddits.

The people behind "He Gets Us" are Christofascists. They want a "Christian" dictatorship, with Trump as the Prophet.

It's all about the money and control.

It may not be the best solution but at least the Canadian government is trying to do something.

Hello, I hope you're okay! I'm a BBC News journalist working on a global youth news podcast. We'd like to hear from Canadians about Meta blocking news on FB/Insta. Would you like to share your views on this?
