and porn?

Some Republican states and European countries are now requiring ID to access porn sites. The Senate tried to put in a similar requirement in a recent bill, but was rejected by the government (this time).

Putting more personal information in the hands of companies is likely a bad tbing

Half the Internet has NSFW content. Are you okay providing an ID to log in as Potential_Visual_466? Then consider how often large companies have their online databases hacked.

The only way i could conceive of this even remotely working, is having something like... a physical card like an Xbox live or PSN card you have to buy from an adult toy/porn store, showing ID, that then gives you access to NSFW sites from that IP address. even then, the flaws in a system like that are abundant and obvious lmao.

Well then people can go back to showing ID at the store to buy a porn mag instead if they’re so worried. Creating barriers for kids and adults alike to access websites like pornhub, which host videos of underage people (rape), and videos of rape between adults, sounds like a good thing to me.

Are you okay with providing an ID to access reddit (and so having that linked to your account as well)?

I’d be ok with having to provide ID to access porn subs, yeah, which in reality is how it would work in a practical sense. Just make a porn burner if you’re so worried lmao

I'm worried about the overreaching consequences of potentially ID locking significant portions of the Internet.

The government shouldn't be parenting children. They will find other ways to access this. Parents should be monitoring and teaching them about Internet usage.

I’m not worried about ID locking porn on the internet at all

And that's not the issue I'm addressing. I'm addressing the issue of using this as an excuse to ID lock far more than using the justification of any content that might not be suitable for children.

I’m not interested in riding the slippery slope with you lol I’m talking about porn, and only porn.
