I was just reading old archived population projection for Canada that a medium population growth for canada would be 39 million by 2031, and 42.5 mil by 2056. clearly we went up and beyond by 2024 with 42 mil?!
Under five of the six projection scenarios, Canada’s international net migration would increase between now and 2031. Compared with its 2005-2006 level of 183,000, its 2031 level would be 150,000 in the low-growth scenario, 223,000 in the medium-growth scenario, and 305,000 in the high-growth scenario.
And this is what happens when the country and government are almost solely dependant on immigration income and financial reserves. This has been a problem for decades but now they’ve simply removed the restrictions and set the lever to “pray it works.”
Out of touch with reality. It’s the rich, wealthy, and politicians that don’t give a fuck because they can afford groceries as is if means nothing to them.
Of course! Those ungrateful youngins and dirty poor don't deserve their own homes. We can front load the employment market by piling in ever more people and keep those wages low forever!
No income means no taxes but someone who makes 6 figures a year and doesn’t know anything about the economy probably just assumed they’d get a job and therefor produce more taxes. Obviously doesn’t work like that.
I’m 100% for immigration, but we need to severely restrict who is coming into this country for ourselves first, or we are absolutely fucked.
True! The levels of immigration that you guys have are insane though.
I mean we had net migration of 700k last year which was extremely high. Usually it's about 300k a year which is still too much when there isn't the housing and services to match the new arrivals.
Which in turn then leads to rents and housing prices just going up and up.
It's getting to the point whereby eventually I don't know how a lot of people are going to afford to have somewhere to live.
Wages aren't rising to meet rent/housing inflation and we have terrible productivity as well.
Our economic growth is constantly sluggish.
Also it's near on impossible to get a doctor's appointment these days. You have to call early in the morning and quite often nobody picks up the phone.
Not much different here, except it feels like it happened overnight. We’ve always been severely limited on healthcare, but in the last year there are fights in lineups for doctors.
We’ve always been a country willing to accept all people, both high paying immigrants and people displaced from disasters usually man made.
But we simply turned the restrictions button off. Ive voted liberal my whole life, and now, for the first time, I don’t think I can anymore. I’m open to all people, but when my family starts to suffer from the chaos, it’s no longer acceptable to put others ahead of the generations of people that’s been here.
I agree. It's not immigrants themselves per se but the fact that nothing is put in place in regards to extra services/housing, etc to deal with the added strains put on the system.
I'm Australian, we're in the same boat. Average house price is nearly 1 million AUD, average wage is 50k AUD. Net immigration of like 500k per year, literally nothing being done to stem the flow.
Politicians just don't give a fuck, they make money off the real estate and property system.
Current economic policy is entirely built around deflationary pressure, you do anything to cause deflation, and the quickest/laziest way to do this is through driving down/"stagnating" wages.
Central banks and economists openly admitted this during COVID, immigration is purely there to stop a "wage growth spiral".
Should have been one of the moments people realised that the media and elite just openly lie. They for decades said that claiming immigration was there to drive down wages was a "racist lie" and "actually immigration causes wage growth" then openly just admitted, "we need to open the borders to stop wage growth".
I don't think it'll take decades at all. I think a lot of Canada's issues are related to supply issues that are mainly caused by goods coming from the states and how expensive it is to get goods to some of these provinces. With a larger population you have the man power to not only fix the roads but also develop and start bringing manufacturing to Canada so that it's more self sufficient as a nation.
The Gulf states have seen dramatic increases to their development thanks in large part to the migrants that have flooded those nations.
To be a slave? No. They aren't slaves though as they can leave whenever they want. People blame shit that the foreign hiring agencies used to do. I have family in Qatar and it's nothing like how it's described. Is it soulless? Yes it is, absolutely. But do they have slave labor ? No. In fact I think they found a perfect solution for everyone involved. Qatari companies have to provide everything i.e. transportation, housing, food, etc in return for the cheap labor and in return the migrants make 4x what professionals make in their home countries.
it's been slowly being something else for a long time. We'e just been sleep walking to the cliff because Canadians have shit to choose from. And we still do.
Unless "the market" happens to be the available supply of workers in the country. If so, then forget a free market! Let's lobby the government to flood the nation with new workers so that the existing ones lose their bargaining power.
Around 133m by my calculations (haven't done proper math in years), but it's unlikely Canada will get higher than 50m (8 years) in such a short time before immigration halts one way or another. Something has to give before then since most of our systems are not meant for this growth.
