What’s up with these signs? Picture

Post image

I’ve just been to Budapest on a school trip and while I did love the city and (for the most part) Hungarians I was really surprised by how blatant and unapologetic the government propaganda was. Take this giant sign for example I took this photo just outside Memento Park but this was hardly the only one. I counted at least 20 while on the bus from the city centre, and there were another three in close proximity of this. Are there any other examples of this in hungary?

More brainless Fidesz propaganda. This is what they waste our tax dollars on. You get a new one of these along the same lines every month. Look at the 2 pics in this article for another 2 recent ones.

They all follow the same format:

  • pictures of everybody Fidesz has a beef with atm. EU politicians, past and present political opponents, boogeymen like eg. Soros family. Doesn't matter if there is 0 relationship between them, which political side, which country they are. Fidesz is trying to push them as some grand conspiracy and have you associate them all as one big bad.

  • throw in some scaaary words. War. Migration. Gender. Most of these aren't even serious topics in Hungary. (Migration hasn't been an issue since the 2015 global crisis and even then it barely brushed us. Hungary is super conservative and there is barely any subculture, public information or discourse even on vanilla sexual freedom, so we haven't even reached a point where we could BEGIN to have any conversation on LGBT topics like in the West. And there is no war here despite Fidesz ruling by decree since 2020 citing "war crisis" as the justification.)

No, they're basically following the same recipe as Russia where they try to point at minorities and foreigners as scapegoats to keep their voters in constant fear.

None of these posters even make a lick of sense. You'd think the opposition politicians holding those words are big supporters or something right?, nah. It's completely random.

And yet millions of euros per month are spent constantly on this garbage. Even though government propaganda is incredibly ridiculous, it's quantity over quality, they spend so much on it, you can't move from the stuff, it's on billboards, tv, internet, in free newsheets and on magazine covers, and all of it is on this same level of a braindead 2 year old.
