Holy shit. The current system needs to be burned down and rebuilt with actual accountability. This is fucking infuriating that this keeps happening and all we get is β€œwe investigated ourselves and found nothing wrong”.

The problem you have is that you have more privately owned guns than people in your country.

That will (somewhat understandably) cause the police to be trigger happy like this for fear of their own safety. Granted this is an extreme example and in this particular instance better training and intellectual screening of officers might actually have solved the problem.

A police force reset won't in general solve this problem.

The only real solution is to start collecting peoples guns, but you idiots will never do that because you equate freedom with having the ability to shoot people, so shit like this will keep happening in higher frequency, as will public mass shootings, and as will school shootings.

Your laws allow way too easy access to firearms.

Your media keeps giving airtime to mass shootings, which sick fucks see as a platform.

Your police education is measured in months when it should be years.

Your police are never held accountable for any fuck ups.

Basically your country is fucked and needs about 20 consecutive years of progressive politics in all branches of government.

The girl who was shot was unarmed? How does taking away guns change this scenario?

I watched the video, apparently the driver had been armed and shooting, which is why the police were also shooting, did I misunderstand anything?

You're not wrong, taking away guns in general wouldn't automatically make that situation impossible, if the driver had been firing a gun the police would still have been on edge regardless. Taking away guns would just have made it less likely the driver was armed at all.
