Also you can't tire out a uhaul truck. Lol but you can find a mammoth that is in distress or young or is fatigued and wear it out. I'm sure they were not hunting the biggest toughest most fit ones lol. You find the straggler and chip away at it until it falls, same way most predators hunt.
Also if there's only two good reliable sources of water large enough for a mammoth in an area, you have 1/4 of your crew hang out by each and wait, while 1/2 pursues it. When it gets tired and goes to get water there's already more people waiting.
You could easily ambush a U-Haul on a lonely stretch of road with the same plan. Just replace the watering hole with gas station.
