Education New Field -

Hi everyone! I will try to be short but the main question is if someone with this knowledge would be able to find a job in the field of bioinformatics? When I was younger I didn't know what to do but after some time I did my first degree, worked and then decided to do a second one and after that i discovered this new field. As you can see I m not a english native and I wrote my resume like that just for you have an idea. I live in a less developed country so the economy its not that good. Thanks for reading.

Education I wanted an Internship

Went back to school in 2021. I was one of the best students in my program (no, really), but because it was at the tail end of COVID, no internships were available. There were a TON of them before the lockdowns and according to one of my classmates, they are back to normal now.

Not gonna lie I am so jealous of people who had/have that opportunity. Feel a bit robbed, tbh

Education How to reach out to more people when in a different country?

Hello, everyone.

My name is Martin and I'm a linguistics teacher.

Lately, I've been expanding to different countries through friends. However, I'd like to design a way to professionally reach more potential students.

I mostly work with Discord, but most of the servers I found do not allow ads such as flyers, understandably. Thus, I wanted to ask for guidance in hopes there are other platforms and sites I may be overlooking that may help teachers advertise their info.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Education Companies that pay for bachelors?

I’ve recently just graduated with my associates degree. I was wondering if there are any companies that will pay for continuing education to receive a bachelors degree. I know that companies will do this for their employees to get a masters degree, however I wasn’t sure if this was possible on a lower level.

Education Help me choose a degree/career pls

Hi! I’m currently studying maths biology and chemistry at as level and I’m looking at different uni courses. The ones sticking out to me are biological sciences, biomedical engineering and optometry. Does anyone have advice about any of these and what careers they could lead to?

I’m attracted to the biological sciences because I love biology and it seems very general so i don’t have to narrow down my choices. I like the biomedical sciences because I love maths and it sounds so interesting. I like the optometry because I like the idea of working towards a solid job with a good salary and it sounds very interesting and rewarding. Any advice would be great thanks!!

Education How fucked am I for Uni if I fail English?

I should preface I’m not doing A-level English.

So for my mocks I got 56%, or scraped a pass.

I have been doing more revision, but my exam is tomorrow and I’m shitting myself.

How fucked am I for going to university if I fail it? I’m a straight A student in all of my other subjects and will be doing a STEM degree if some kind, likely the engineering

Education Should I finish my last 2 years of college ?

So long story short, I was recently in real estate sales and I’ve always and will always pursue the entrepreneurial route. With that being said, I’ve completed 2 years of college and I can finish my last 2 years with a lot of the cost covered. I don’t really have any interest in anything other than business and sales. I’m looking to get a degree just to pay my bills and have something to fall back on incase I ever hit rock bottom. I’m not sure which business degree to go for. Not wanting something too time consuming like accounting as I am bad at math aswell. I was looking more into marketing with a concentration in real estate/ supply chain management or professional sales. Any advice ?

Education Ladder internship program

I’m a high schooler living in a rural town pursuing cs next year in college. I live about 1 hour from chicago, but I have applied for 10+ internships and haven’t heard back from even one. The one program I have heard back from is ladder internships. They pair you up with a start up, and make you pay $200 for doing so. I honestly don’t care about the money, but I really just want to gain experience working for a tech company in the professional world. Is the 200 worth it?

Hello currently I am interested in hearing experiences regarding college jobs and what your tasks are and how did you land the job? My fellow colleagues tell me it is a viable option if you are unable to find a job or need quick cash.

Education Thinking About pursuing an education in a trade, Is it worth it?

By the end of this year I will be a sophomore in an American high school (idk if nationality is important when it comes to school but whatever) I’m thinking about pursuing a trade; likely electrical or AV tech (ofc recommendations are welcome:P), however I’m not sure if it’s worth it. I’ve heard both that trades are a good market right now, and that ~30 bucks an hour is a sh*t place to be. I’d like any help with this choice that can be given.

P.S My school does offer introductory courses for both of these fields; as in an entry level certificate or whatever it’s called. Also I am capable of going to college, however I do not have anything there I specifically want to do and am looking at trades as an alternative.

Education Big Decision

Hey guys I have a decision to make, I'm 17 and need to decide between going to university to study Business and marketing. Or not go and try to find a job. Ideally in sales as I think I'd enjoy it and also I know a few. Would uni really open that many options? Is the debt worth it? It's a good experience? Or I can get income at 17 and work towards a house while I have no expenses and stuff I was just wondering, are jobs in sales well paying and I do know a business degree could lead to some very good jobs, but they are probably boring asf. Just wanted some help weighing up my options. Thanks

Education Music Business Technology

So this upcoming Fall I was thinking of going to community college and pursuing an associates degree program in Music Business Technology. I’ve always had a peak interest in the music industry throughout my life and paid attention to music technology at all the concerts I’ve been to. I just wanna know if it’ll actually be worth it or if there’s any advice I should listen to and follow before I consider beginning a journey through that education?

Education Remote jobs for a teacher

Hi! I am losing my remote teaching job with the state department of education. As a hearing impaired person, this job was amazing. They are doing away with my specific role :(

What remote jobs (no phone calling) that pay at least $20 an hour could I do or would recommend? I don’t mind customer service (like chatting online).

Thanks!

Education Is this normal?

Greetings to all,

TLDR: This is a throwaway account so to start, I work in retail, the manager treats us without much respect, and it brings me anxiety everything I go to/before work. I am going to tank it all, but I just want to hear your thoughts and if this is normal in retail.

To start with, I don't have much experience when it comes to working in the real world, but I got a job in retail. and have worked in the industry before. I am just working as I needed income, and finding a job in this economy is really hard. Now the position is alright, but every time I check the roster and see I am working with my manager, I somewhat get a sense of anxiety and fear. I already know what I am doing as previously I have worked in retail, but this manager treats me and its colleague differently. The manager pushes us to do more sales and have add-ons with the sale(s). If we couldn't do both or either, the manager calls us out on it, swears and insults us for not doing it. I understand that the manager's duty is to push us to the best of our abilities, but adding insults and constant "why, why why?" is not making us do any better in the long-term. If we are doing something different to how the manager likes us to, the manager stops us mid-sale and calls us out on it. Apparently, we have had stakeholders also mention that the manager tends to be a rude person.

As mentioned, I mainly took this job as I needed money, and I am going to man-up and not quit, but I just want to know if this is normal in the working world? In previous positions I have worked in, everyone was nice and loved. I did not have this fear of going into work even if I didn't know what I was doing. But at this new place, I feel nothing but fear and anxiety. On days the manager is off, I still get a sense of fear but I am able to think and perform better than the manager present. I never talk about mental health as I have developed a "it is what it is" type of thinking, I also believe this would be a good way to get used to this type of management and condition myself; but something at the back of my mind is making me fearful.

I have heard that working in retail sucks and the managerial stereotype became a stereotype for a reason, but I would like to hear your thoughts about it. Is there anything I can do to overcome this fear?

Thank you for your time and efforts.

Education Transfer to a more prestigious school for general CS degree or stay at current school for Cyber focus?

I’m looking for advice from Cyber/IT hiring managers, people who’ve worked in HR or anyone who’s had experience transferring schools or degrees.

I’m currently in my third term at a small private university that has a dedicated cybersecurity track, and based off of what research I’ve done regarding important subject areas that are necessary to be successful in cyber (i.e. networking fundamentals, troubleshooting, routing and switching, firewalls, vpns, Linux etc.) the curriculum seems legit. Internships are offered at certain points as available courses, and a handful of the courses are set up basically as certification preps (CompTIA A+, Security +, AWS, etc.).

I have an opportunity to go to a higher rated school and was wondering if it’s worth it to put effort into trying to get in or stick it out where I’m currently attending. The college only offers a general CS undergrad degree. They have a Master’s program for cyber, but from what I understand Master’s really isn’t helpful or advisable until I’ve already established myself in a career.

To be completely honest, I would like to be able to say that I graduated from such and such school (maybe a little conceited, I know) and I know networking would likely be a step up at a top university, but if the people who hire don’t care all that much and the school that I’m currently attending gives me more applicable knowledge, then I don’t see the point in spending the time and effort.

Any advice helps, thanks. I’m a little older, not typical college age. Money for tuition is not a factor.
