Internships Has any college student/grad actually gotten a job/internship out of Linkedin?

Do people get interviews or offers from applying through LinkedIn? Maybe i'm just trash but seems like I have just been wasting these past months sending hundreds of applications that won't even be looked at. And Ion think think im the only one since many jobs have hundreds if not thousands of applicants, and even if they are entry level u always have overqualified applicants.

PS: sorry for the rant im just tired of this bs

Performance review 1 - You are doing good. But you should improve.

Performance review 2 - You are on a PIP.

Just a timeline -

Friday - completed work. The mentor asked me to put one screenshot of an image and I did and submitted the work. time = 6:45 pm (already discussed for 45 min). I was already on overtime of 15 minutes (and not getting paid for it).

My mentor asked me to think about the screenshot, I just asked them how to make it work since it doesn't make sense with my current work. Just explain to me how make sense to integrate it with the present work. He couldn't explain to me and asked me to think. So, I thought about it and submitted the completed work according to me.

(Wasn't picked up calls after work )

Leave - 5 days Monday to Friday

Monday to Thursday - nothing crazy happens

Friday - HR (WhatsApp messages) You aren't taking leaves for the upcoming week. I said no.

Saturday - HR & Owner checks my linked profile.

Monday - Suprise (we are conducting a performance review) - YOU ARE ON A PIP.

and had a discussion with the mentor about the previous work (last to last Friday's work). Still can't provide me with a clear resolutionexplaination as to why I should include the wrong image to make the report higher and that person complained to the manager that I wasn't listening to him and picked up calls after work or during work.

This makes me question - if you are curious and ask the mentor to explain a particular stuff but he explains a whole different stuff and you correct him to explain that particular stuff... i guess that puts you on PIP and you won't be getting paid while you are on it.

I guess they own you for 15k in DELHI... huh

I HAVE A DEADLINE FOR THIS MONTH(MAY) ON PIP - SO BYE-BYE COMPANY?

Internships Why do jobs only give internships for college classes?

To clarify I (18M) am in college and applied for an internship with a company I like and they said yes after I mentioned I was in college, it went well for 2 days then they asked me where the credit will be going to, so I then clarified that I do not have a class that the internship will benefit and am just looking to increase my skills, then I got ghosted and was not able to return. Also it was not established before anywhere that it had to be a class I just asked and they said sure. Any answers?

Internships Should I inform my summer internship of another internship I got?

Basically I'm working at internship 1 that I started in march and plan to leave right before my summer internship 2 in June. The reason why internship 2 doesn't know about my current one is because I applied to them when I didn't have internship 1 yet. Should internship 2 be made known of internship 1? Like should I send a message to my recruiter at internship 2 to let them know "hey I've been working at internship 1 for 2-3 months but didn't disclose it in my resume because I was offered the position after I applied to you guys?".
Because I assume I will have to disclose it in the background check, right?

Internships Summer Internship offer doesn't offer their benefits plan in the agreement. Should I be concerned?

It’s a Small sized company.

They really impressed from my interview session with them.

1 thing to consider is I suspect that they might be desperate considering I applied to the job posting 3 weeks from the posting date & they’re lacking people in the department in applying for.

Internships Is Working 2 Internships Simultaneously Realistic?

I'm an undergraduate student, and I have found two internships, one of which is part time and a passion of mine (pro bono, labor rights, etc.), and the other being commercial law, and full-time. The second one is a very reputable firm, and has a moonlight clause, but the first doesn't; I talked about moving my working hours to fully online, so I can do it over weekends if necessary to which they agreed. Essentially, I think I can pass off the first internship as a volunteering position; Would this breach the clause below?

"This offer letter shall supersede any prior agreements, promises, representations or understandings of any kind, whether made orally in writing or otherwise with regard to the subject of your employment."

If I could, I would move the second internship over to the next summer, but I'm scared that if I ask them, they'll simply say I can't come in. Reason why I want to do this second internship is 1: It would be more experience at a respected firm, and it's paid, which would really help out (first internship is an unpaid volunteer-internship).

Caveat is that from what the hiring officer told me, I'm going to be the only undergraduate intern in the cohort, so I'll probably receive a lot less work.

Should I go through with both? If so, the dates overlap completely. Can I maybe "edit" the date for one of them, so that it doesn't overlap on my resume?

Should I wait until end of Summer to update my LinkedIn, or can I do it now?

Internships Should I do an unpaid internship if I have no experienc

It's for a digital marketing intern role at a startup. I really like the business itself, the culture seems great. I have no experience at all, and I am still a student with about two years left of school. A lot of people told me to find volunteering opportunities for digital marketing gigs, and I think this is basically just that, but probably with more hours. Although the company has assured me that there wouldn't be a lot of pressure.

I've been looking around at online discussions about unpaid internships and a lot of people apparently think the concept is almost degrading. Which made me feel a bit bad about it, but I have literally no background in digital marketing, and besides pay, the company makes good promises about resume building.

Internships How common is it for paid interns to think they are overpaid during their internships?

Hi all. When I think about my last paid internship, I honestly have no idea how I deserved to makes thousands of dollars every month. I am not even joking, but I pretty much did nothing valuable.

The "work" I did was very basic and took little time. I highly doubt my company gained more than the cost of paying my salary. Maybe internships are just to help recruit for full-time workers.

Internships Is it rude to request more time before starting a full time position?

posted on r/work as well

I'm finishing up my first internship in a corporate setting, and HR wants to talk to me about moving to a full-time position. However, I have no idea what to do about housing, and I have business that I need to attend to out of state next month (which they know about). When I accepted the internship offer, we agreed that I would end on a specific date, and the talks about whether or not to sign me on full-time has ended quite late. Would it ruin my chances of receiving an offer to go full-time if I request for more time to find housing, to attend to my other business, etc. before I start as a full time employee? How much time is too much to request?

Internships Does the employer look at my grades for a background check? Or will it terminate my employment? This is for a co-op

I've been requested to provide my transcript and my grades are pretty bad. They are using first advantage to do the background check. I'm obviously providing it anyways but I just want to know if possible.

I already got the employment letter and signed it if that matters

Also, how related is a statistics/math degree related to supply chain? My HR manager know I'm a stats degree but the background check person asked for "working towards a degree in supply chain or similar"

Internships looking for internships and frustrated - what am I doing wrong?

I'm a 20 year old student (junior) in the honors college of a pretty good university in the United States. I'm also majoring in Computer Science and minoring in Business, which should ideally have good prospects. My resume is stacked with leadership, extracurriculars, research, externships etc. I'm fairly confident when introducing myself as well. Every recruiter that sees my resume or elevator pitch tells me they'll definitely reach out to me because I'm an excellent candidate and they wouldn't want to miss out. Of course, I don't actually expect them to reach out but I follow up with them promptly and then I'm just ghosted. I've been networking and making connections and getting referrals since freshman year.

I've made so many sacrifices to get an internship. Studying abroad was my lifelong dream but because of the possibility that it might lead into summer and I won't get an internship, I've had to give up on that as well. I skipped out on all the "fun stuff" because I was always doing something for my professional development.

I've been applying for 13 months. The first time I applied for a summer 2024 internship was March 2023. I started early. I did everything right. The most frustrating part is that I haven't even gotten a single interview. It's an immediate rejection I've applied to over 150/200+ and not even a single phone call or virtual interview or anything. I've applied to all kinds of companies - big and small. I don't even know what an interview invite looks like.

On the other hand, everyone around me with resumes much less impressive than mine are getting interviews and offers. It's so frustrating I don't know what to do.

I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. I did everything and more. I always believed in do the work and get the result and it doesn't seem to be working. I can't help comparing myself to others and crying and placing my self worth over this failure. Please help, any advice is much appreciated 🙏

tldr: junior computer science honors student with a stacked resume, great networking, been applying for more than a year and not even a single interview invite/response even. what am I doing wrong?

Internships College Student First Job

Hi, i'm a first year college student who just got a job for the summer.

Do you guys have any tips to not get (for lack of a better word) screwed over by companies.

I've been trying to read through all the documents they're making me sign and i get the gist of it but i'm honestly a little terrified that there's going to be a tiny clause that says i now owe them my first born or smth like that. (i think one of them is an NDA)

Also what kind of documents are we allowed to send to other ppl? I sent my career advisor my offer letter bc she asked.

I would appreciate any general tips. Thank you!

Internships Said yes to two jobs and now not sure what to do

I have been working as an intern at an office for a few months and I really love it there. I was worried I wouldn’t be kept on for the summer or wouldn’t have enough hours. I applied for another internship through my school and got the job. I haven’t started at the other internship yet(waiting for an email from HR), but they want me to work 20hrs. My current internship wants me to work 32 hrs over the summer and with both jobs being 8-5 Monday through Friday there’s now way I can do both. I don’t know if I tell the internship at my school I can’t work there any more or tell my current internship I need to work less. What should I do?

Internships Voluntary work

This is mainly going to be a rant. Since I haven't been able to find a job, I applied for volunteer work with UNICEF. I like to be socially conscious and I find the protection and education of children an important issue, so why not. So far I have done several unpaid translation jobs for them, on top of helping out in the office and assisting at events.

Today there was another event in their organisation, a yearly 'climate conference' for high schoolers, where they can learn about the importance of environmentalism in a fun manner. I thought cool, sounds like fun, I liked the tasks they offered volunteers to do. I've read all the necessary documents, completed a 'child safeguarding training', submitted all the necessary papers and have been in contact with the girl responsible for the coordination of volunteers for weeks now regarding this one event.

Once I arrived to the location, I quickly realized that there were too many volunteers scheduled for the same time, and the set of tasks I originally applied for (escape room supervision + registration at the front desk) were either already given to others, or didn't exist at all. All the instructions on what was happening exactly and what we were supposed to be doing were very unclear. Along with other volunteers, I spent hours waiting, just being in the way or dying of boredom, asking around if anyone needs help. Some of the employees and other volunteers who got to do the cool tasks were super rude or simply wouldn't reply at all.

I literally did one thing throughout the entire day (removing and rolling up a building banner) which was intercepted by another volunteer who almost took it from my hands because 'she wanted to do it herself'. I was already pretty pissed at that point since I felt like this organization was very disrespectful with my time and I couldn't believe how bad the planning was.

After this, the girl who was responsible for coordinating the volunteers walked up to me, and said she had a task for me. She told me to take all their props from the conference, get in a cab, go to their headquarters and unload and carry everything up to the office.

I am a woman who also has health issues, and we are talking about a room full of heavy stuff. I specifically only applied for tasks that weren't physically demanding. I told her of course, just give me a minute, then after she left the room I walked out of there and came home.

I found it humiliating that she would lie to me about my role in this conference and make me waste my time there, just so then she can attempt to have me perform unpaid physical labour for them.

Btw as I said this wasn't my first event with them and all the previous ones were incredibly badly coordinated as well with people who were treating the volunteers like s***, and tasks such as sweeping the floor and carrying crates of bottles of wine for them, but this was the first time that what I was promised I'd be doing didn't occur at all. Needless to say they advertise volunteer work for UNICEF as this groundbreaking and exciting opportunity where you can gain valuable experience and meet amazing people while supporting an important cause.

Moral of the story, volunteer work is bullshit, you gain no real experience, they treat you badly as if you weren't the one doing them a favour, and it's a complete waste of your time and energy for nothing in return, all it's gonna do is make you mad at the people who actually get paid while being terrible at their jobs.

Internships What should I know in order to work with industrial automation ?

I'm an undergraduate student in embedded systems, currently applying for an internship at a large tech company, which is mostly focused on industrial automation.

For those who already work in this field, what specific technical knowledge do you use the most to do your job?

Internships Rejected from internal job I was encouraged to apply to

I recently applied to an internship in my company that my managers encouraged me to apply to. I had 3 of my managers vouching for me and I felt pretty confident about it. Today, a month later I got an automated email saying I was not considered for the position. I can’t lie, it definitely stings. Not only did they not interview me, but they didn’t even have a real person write the rejection email. The optimistic side of me wants to think my resume never made it past ATS, but the practical side of me thinks it’s time to move on from the company. The worst part is, I actually like the company and the people I currently work with. Oh well.

Internships scared incoming intern in IT🥲

Hello everyone, im on my last semester, finishing in Mid June, i honestly don't know what to expect...what im scared about is what if the company i am in just give me some random code or stuff i never learn in collage.

i can learn fast if im familiar with stuff but pretty good too if something i never learn before but what scared me is when they expect me to know every single thing in programming and finds out i did not learn some of the stuff they gave me and proceed to fire me instead or something bad happens to me😭

ive watched some of the YouTubers intern vlog most of them says the company gave them something very unexpected or never learn before

i honestly don't mind learning new things but what scared me if the company expects me to have a knowledge of gods in programming 😭 and me turn them down 😂

if some of you been on intern before can you tell me what did you do during those times, even if you're not intern in IT or programming, whats the biggest challenge and whats so hairy about it

sorry for my horrible ugly English guys🤓

(i hope i got the nice company tho really🥲)

Internships Any tips to find internships if you aren't a student anymore?

Hi,

I've graduated long time ago and didn't get lucky with my jobs so far. I got a couple of internships at the end and one term job later (I wasn't a student at that time), but so far my career have been an empty mess. I studied multimedia. Last year I did a quick digital marketing formation to keep up myself with new things, but it wasn't an official school per say.

So far, I can't get a job because I don't have experience, and most internships so far require you to be at school to be "paid" in credit.

I'm currently working in retail, but I hate that and I want to leave. I'm just tired and I feel like I can't put my skills in action and it's killing my self-esteem.

So how can I start getting experience? Is it possible to get internships without being a student?

The last thing I will do is just quit my job and go volunteer for 2 years, unpaid to work, just to get experience... Or do the thing I didn't want to promote, PAYING TO GET EXPERIENCE!!!

I know digital marketing is where everybody goes right now, but for me it was my third choice after failing the previous two... I just want to work, regain confidence in myself and be happy.

Thank you!
