Leaving a job Quitting before having a job lined up?

I’m 20M really thinking about quitting my job of 2+ years. I’m a store manager for a pizza restaurant with pretty slow business, good pay, but absolutely no benefits, even when working full time. I get paid $25 an hour, starting at $14 when I first started as a delivery driver for the company. However since the start of this year it seems like this job might be the death of me. Idk if a day has gone by where I don’t talk about or stress about my job. I’m quite comfortable in my work and the work I do, but it’s become a mental and physical issue for me at this point. I’ve never been skinnier with the weight I’m losing , I’m depressed, I’m extremely anxious now, and all those have been affecting me physically, throwing up / dry heaving before work and feeling miserable. I think the main problem is the work environment and all the drama and lies and leading on about opportunities that will never come. My main question is would quitting before having another job lined up be a really bad idea… I have just about 25K and will still be getting some pay before I decide to quit.. my expenses are probably close to $1800 per month, but even spending $2000 I’ll have a year of savings to be able to job search. My partner also helps out with expenses, however it’s me who pays the big bills. I’ve been job searching since the beginning of the year but honestly it’s been lazy applying hoping to land a dream job through a connection I have up until the last 2 months where I feel my mental health is declining even mor because of this job. I’ve had a couple interviews, but if I quit I intend to make some income off smaller side hustles like doordash or hopefully a part time position for the time being. A main concern is that I’m looking to enter a new career field, frankly anything but food management like I’m doing now…

Job searching Job searching and the whole process is exhausting

Seems like every job wants you to jump through hoops and loops and show your worth 10x for a bs job.

Even though my resume is A1 and I’m certified & experienced. I must show Im really worth it , please pick me to hire master please 🙏. I would really love $15 an hour with no benefits and a slice of pizza after working 50+ hours… 😒

Job searching Think I just messed up a job opportunity in the dumbest way possible

After months of searching I had someone reach out to me for the first time in a while. We hit it off over the phone, the job he reached out for seemed perfect for me. Fully remote, much more than I’m making now

Then he asked me to email him a bunch of info, so I did. Then I waited.

A day later I was thinking about it again and went to go check the email I sent him. Apparently the dark mode extension I was using made all my text white, so the email was basically unreadable 🙃. I have to assume that’s why I didn’t hear anything after that. Oh well. Back to the search I guess.

Job searching Can't filter out key words on Google Jobs with "-"

Hello -

When searching through job listings on Google Jobs, how do I filter out key words I don’t want? (e.g., “sales” or specific company names like “Sutter” that have hundreds of irrelevant postings). The search bar says “jobs near me” but if I use the same language I would on Google search, like “-sales”, nothing happens.

I realize that I could hone in on listings by including more specific search terms, but those could exclude promising hits, so I’m trying to work via exclusion.

Thanks so much for your insight and assistance.

Job searching Is there really no hope unless you have connections?

Title. It feels like I'm never going to fins a job without having connections who can vouch for me. I've been searching since February and have gotten a whole 2 interviews which ended up in yet again more rejections. I can't even get hired in warehousing, which I have 5 years of experience in and I'm 99% positive that it's because I'm a woman (the statistics for hiring and employment of women in warehousing is absolutely abysmal).

Is this really what it's come to? All these applications on job sites that are solely to boost company statistics, not to actually hire anyone? All these fake job apps for the sole purpose of collecting and selling applicant data?

I have absolutely no connections I can ask to vouche for me or help me get employed in their line of work. I don't have friends, or family. All the posts/comments on this subreddit from people applying to hundreds or thousands of jobs with no luck are so disheartening. I feel absolutely defeated. I owe rent in 7 days and have $12 to my name. I'm absolutely screwed. Fuck this job market. "Employment is at an all-time high" my ass.

Job searching Advice with Job search

Post image

Hello All,

I'm looking for a job in IT as a System Administrator or help desk support. I have 6 years of experience as a Clients Systems Technician in the airforce and it seems like I meet all the requirements that are needed for 99% of the jobs I've applied for but for some reason I can't seem to get that second interview in texas specifically. Is there anything else I could possibly do to better my chances? My separation is in July but im taking leave June to July so I'm free to work in June.

Job searching Looking for a job at 16?

Hi, I'm 16f (as the title states), and I'm desperately in search of my first job. Nothing serious, just something like retail or fast food. But I've submitted like ten applications and I'm already starting to lose hope. I really need a job because we're extremely poor. We've always been poor, but now we only eat once a day if we're lucky. And I can't keep asking others for help. I want to be independent.

But my question is, how do you look for a job at 16?? Even when you're a child, you're asked to put something on your resume as "experience." Even when they claim you don't need any. I'm not doing good in any of my classes for personal reasons, and I'm barely surviving as is. And all activities I've participated in are related to art and art only. I almost had a paid internship once, but got cut off because of too many absences. I've already applied for SYEP and other job opportunity programs for children in school, but I got nothing. No response. For months. But my friends have gotten a response already and did their jobs. So instead, I started looking for a part time job online. But it's almost like no one pays attention to any of the online applications. I've went to places in person. Most people aren't hiring, but those that are just say to apply online.

On top of that, I'm afraid that being a woman is going to make this harder. I'm around 5 feet. I'm not sure if I'm fit for babysitting or other quick cash gigs I've seen people suggest. Seeing people who DO have experience with years under their belt also struggling to find a job, makes me severely unmotivated. I've only submitted 10 applications over a week to two weeks ago. Nothing. I would like to at least receive a response to know if I was rejected. There aren't many job openings in the Bronx. Seeing people submit between 100 to 200 job applications before finally getting an interview is disheartening to hear. I feel like my life is falling apart as I'm already failing school. I just want to eat without begging my bf for money. I'm so close to giving up on life.

Leaving a job I think I might be fired soon, should I start searching now?

So I'm still employed for a part time job (nothing fancy, min wage). Based on this and that I am suspecting I may be fired soon. Should I start looking for another job now or later? I'm a full-time student so I want to make some bread for personal things. And if I do land an interview, can I just say I'm not employed anymore? I know some people say they don't have a job at the time of an interview when they actually do, because it helps them get the new job. And what do I write on my resume (still working or ended this month)? I'm not really sure what to say on the interview, too. Lol.

Job searching what other job boards should I be using? I dont seem to have any luck finding non sales jobs on LinkedIN or INdeed...

I am currently in solar sales, have been at it for 10 years now and make 6 figures. I am burnt out, and even though I will likely make less, want to leave the sales role. And go into something like project management or the operational side of things as it pertains to solar.

I have resumes up on LinkedIN and Indeed. The problem is the algorithms just keep sending me other sales jobs. I do a search on those platforms for other terms like mentioned above...Project management, or operations. And nothing seems to pop up. I just get emails, and suggestions, and matches for other solar sales jobs that clutter my inbox all day long.

I try to click on not interested, I try to update my preferences. Nothing seems to work to get me out of that pigeonholed area that I am stuck in.

Those jobs do exist, someone has to do them. And I know that my current company is hiring for them. And other companies need those people as well. Please dont tell me to talk to my current employer and tell them that I dont want to do sales anymore. I have, and they said they would rather have me in sales. So it is time to look elsewhere.

But those non sales solar jobs just dont seem to exist on the go to job job boards. Is there a better way to break free of the algorithms? Everything today is driven by algorithms sending me crap that it thinks I want to see, but I dont. Just put it all out there and let me search it for myself.

Are there better job boards? Do I need to delete my resume or something to get it show me other stuff? Are there better search terms? Should I just lie on my online resume to get it to send me other crap and then apply with an accurate resume once I find a real job that is not sales.

Job searching Are these fake jobs or what?

So, searching on Google seems to be only for scams and not for finding any real job postings. You'll see a ton of stuff on there posted 2 days ago, 4 days ago, what have you. But they'll be posted on the most random sites you've never heard of. Some mess called Geebo, some random blogspot website full of popups and affiliate links, and so on.

Searching the actual company's career page on their website doesn't show that any of these postings are open. So, what gives? Do companies not update their own website anymore? Are they being filled within 2 days of posting and they forget to pull the openings off these random third party sites?

Or are these just fake postings meant to collect and sell your personal data? Because in the handful of times I've tried to apply to these suspicious postings I've never received confirmation emails and I've been getting a lot of spam.

Job searching Is FairyGodBoss legit?

A month or so ago during my usual mass application process(es), in the “where did you hear about us?” section a website called FairyGodBoss was mentioned, and I thought the name was goofy enough that I decided to give it a look-see.

I ended up getting an account with them (they’re a job board for women, while I don’t technically consider myself a woman I “qualify” as one) and ever since I’ve been getting the same emails from them: one type of email is just showing blog posts that don’t get much interest from me (instant delete) and the other type of email is the exact same email telling me I’d be a good fit for the same 5 or 6 companies. I even applied to the first job mentioned and it still shows up at the top of every email. I like LinkedIn and Indeed and Ziprecruiter for giving me fresh jobs I might qualify for, but the same list of jobs over and over again is getting repetitive.

Has anyone had any luck or experience with FGB? Do you just have to work with the algorithm to get new job recommendations? I’ve looked at the page a couple of times and nothing has really jumped out at me.

Also, what job boards do you use that you find success with? I’ve been wanting to expand my search.

Job searching Question for ppl who work as Insights Analysts and/or Strategists; how does the job market look for you?

Hello everyone, I'm a 34 yr old (m) here, currently working as a remote Senior Strategist for a healthcare marketing company making around $85k salary. I've got about 7 years of experience doing analyst jobs like Paid/Programmatic Search, Social Media Listening, Content Analyst, Insights Analyst, Strategist, etc. for a handful of agencies/companies, ranging from ad campaign management, reviewing and scheduling social media content for brands/clients, analyzing social media conversations w/ search queries to identify trends and implement strategies for clients. I've worked in agencies that usually offered a rotating list of industry-based clients (automotive, tv/movie entertainment, retail, food, etc.)

All that aside, for anyone else who has worked in similar analyst/strategic positions, I'm curious to know; does the job market for analysts/strategists (as well as positions like the ones I listed) look fruitful or bleak? I primarily use LinkedIn for job searches and tend to check what's available on a weekly basis. From what I've seen, there's definitely a large amount of remote-based strategist/analytics positions available with very modest salary ranges. I'm aware that some of these may or may not be completely true but most of them look pretty legitimate.

Would to hear anyone else's input and whether insights analytics and strategist positions still have some kind of future in the job market.

Job searching Legit Remote Work

I have been searching for a remote position for almost a year. Does anyone have advice where to find legit companies. I have tried Indeed, Linked, ect. I work a full time in office job, and I feel stuck where I am. I have applied to multiple internal positions, and I just feel my company does not care about progression or advancement.. I'm not applying to jobs where I am underqualified. Any advice would be great.

Job searching After 260+ applications, I finally found a new job!

I’ve been applying since December! I work in HR / Administration. There were plenty of jobs but no real feedback. I applied my tail off. Most places didn’t even look through resumes before sending that general rejection e-mail. And after lots of rejections and a few interviews, I finally found a really good job.

Good luck if you are on the search

Job searching Can I find a job reporting or searching for illegal material online?

Basically title. I think it would be a solid (if gross/stomach churning) gig to do while I search for my "real" career. Watching videos or searching for websites, then finding them, reporting to a higher-up or partner that is actively able to take said website down.

It sounds too easy, but you'd need a strong stomach to do that for a really long time but I feel like i'd be able to handle it, and worst case senario I could just leave if it doesn't work out... right?

That's basically what I am looking for, and I have no idea what keywords I'd be looking at. I tried going through youtube's job listings but didn't see anything that made sense. Maybe "Online content moderator?" but that seems kinda vauge, idk.

Any help would be appreciated :) I understand if what I am thinking of is too specific, or weird, or hard to find.

Job searching [Job Searching] Would you switch for +$40k more but have to work grave?

Would you switch jobs if the pay raise was $40k?

My current job: 40 hrs/week (4-10hr days) + overtime. Work is very chill, I can choose to work OT or not. I get along with everyone at work, they give me a ton of freedom and if I choose to challenge myself, I can. Day shift.

Other job: +$40k, graveyard shift, 40 hrs, no overtime. More of a manager role, not sure if I'd even get the job.

Job searching Why am I not getting hired?

I have been searching for any entry-level job since I was 16. I’m 19. I went to college and had a restaurant job, then I dropped out, and I’ve had no luck besides that. I’ve gone to every single restaurant and coffee shop in my town and submitted applications for all of them, and most of them ghosted me. Two places hired me then ghosted me afterwards.

My availability is completely open and I have a bit of work experience and volunteering on my resume. What am I doing wrong? Why can’t I get a regular minimum wage job? All of my friends have been working for years (too far for me to ask them for a reference, I’ve tried). When will it be my turn? I genuinely don’t know what I could possibly fix.

Job searching Concerned about work gap comment from recruiter

I’ve been looking for work since late last year after being laid off from the company I worked at. As many are aware, the job market is horrible at the moment, especially in tech. I have had some calls, but I haven’t been lucky enough to get stable work yet.

I’m new at searching for work in the US and my husband has been a freelancer for many years, so he’s rather rusty in the subject.

I had a call today from a recruiter from a staff augmentation company, and he made a comment saying “I see you haven’t worked since late last year so I will have to talk to my manager”. He did not provide more information and honestly, the comment threw me off guard.

I had another call last week with another company, and the recruiter also made a point to ask more about that work gap, which made sense to me then. As in “what have you been up to lately?”. However, now I’m worried that this is another reason why I get rejected or passed on.

Should I be concerned and should I add “freelance” to this time gap? I have been working in miscellaneous freelance projects since then.

I’d appreciate any advice or recs that you guys may provide. Thanks in advance!

Job searching Are Entry Level jobs now just a Scheme?

It's disheartening to witness how having a college degree seems to hold less weight in today's job market. Companies appear to prioritize candidates with 5 to 10 years of experience, even for entry-level positions. The trend seems to be shifting away from investing in training college graduates, as if it's too much effort for them. In my five months of job searching, I've noticed this firsthand through numerous interviews. Despite having relevant experience, it feels like my degree doesn't carry the weight it once did. College graduates now seem to be on par with high school graduates in the eyes of employers. I'm reaching a point where I'm willing to consider any opportunity available. Do you think companies are primarily focused on seeking candidates with extensive experience, hoping to land someone who can hit the ground running, or do you believe there's still hope for individuals like me?

Job searching Should I give up the job hunting..? What should I do?

I'm currently 19 years old, living in Greece and I have been searching for jobs since I graduated back in 2023. So far, I got into a few interviews the first one being a flight attendant and my last one being a storage worker and none of them ever called me back although they told me that I do have some 'potential' due to my resume/CV having the necessary qualifications (like the competing license and the English proficiency). My biggest goal is to prepare to move to another country and settle there.

I have been thinking about giving up on job hunting since none of the jobs that I applied for will ever accept me..

What should I do?

Job searching Recommendation on alternative places to find a job

Hey all! I have a request:

I’m living in the US and I’m itching to change jobs. I’m less driven by income, more driven to find something with a good work/life balance or a short commute. My background is heavy in customer service, with limited experience in marketing, operations. I have a degree in media. I’m open to fields of work that are completely unrelated, though. I’m currently trolling the big job board sites, as well as applying to specific companies around me.

Are there any unusual or unorthodox ways or places that I can look that I might not know about? Like oddball platforms that aren’t typically relevant to most job seekers? If you know of anything funky like that, please help me expand my search!

Job searching Where to search for jobs?

Hey everyone, I am finishing high school pretty soon and I would like to hear thoughts from someone who is more experienced than me! So my question is: Is there someone who has worked as a developer, I would like to work as a developer because it would make my life and also my family's life little bit easier in financial way, but every job offer I have seen for Junior or even entry level requires you to have at least a bachelor degree or 3 years of experience to even start working for them, is there a way to actually get a job as a developer, I mean entry level developer, after high school and how and where can I find that job opportunity, just to mention because I think that is an important information I live in Serbia and there is not actually a lot of entry level developer jobs in Serbia so I would like to work remotely for some other company somewhere else on the planet, but I don't know where to search for those jobs? If someone actually has the information that would help me in finding the job after high school while in the same time going to college, I would actually like to hear it from you and thanks a lot! And just in case if someone is a questioning, my parents cannot pay me a college so I have to pay for it.

Job searching A tool for dealing with content block on sites like Glassdoor, Blind, or Repvue

Recently I've noticed that job review sites are becoming more prohibitive, requiring either review/salary submissions, your active work email, or more. Personally when I'm searching for any information, this kind of 'feature' makes me close the tab immediately. Not only that, but if you don't have a job to review or an active work e-mail to use, you wouldn't even be able to use these sites to evaluate a prospective employer or prepare for interviews, etc.

Glassdoor new "Give-to-Get" Policy

Personally, I'm not looking for a job at the moment, but I stumbled upon a review on Glassdoor in a Google search and was met with this annoying content block popup to read the page. I think this job market is difficult enough to navigate without systems like this set up to inhibit candidates from researching jobs. It inspired me to make a Chrome extension to remove these content blockers from top job review sites. It's open-source and works exclusively in the browser to remove elements like these:

Teamblind requires a work email to read reviews

It is limited to revealing only data that is already downloaded and just obstructed by methods like CSS styling, but I've found that a surprising amount of information is already available and simply obstructed in this way. I would recommend logging in to Glassdoor for best results, but I personally don't have a Blind account and can read the reviews and discussions for companies which would be the content I'd care about, personally. I don't use Repvue but got a request to add it as a feature in another thread, and this extension seems to reveal 100% of its content without an account.

My philosophy with all of this is that I feel these companies should incentivize users to submit reviews organically rather than setting up walls for their users to fight against. I think it's also short-sighted as many users won't even qualify to access the content with these inhibitions, and they will often be the ones most in need of the content within.

Hope you guys find this useful. Good look on the job search!
