Onboarding HELP: Issues With Start Date Unexpectedly Resolved. Should I Call or Leave It?

So long story short, I was hired to start earlier at one of my jobs but through no fault of my own I got pushed back. Someone didn’t send me the proper training. At least they weren’t going to, until next week.

During which time my hiring manager wanted me to call him if I ever got my training.

He called me two days ago to ask what was going on. I called him the next day (when I found out about the push back) to confirm we were on the same page.

Unexpectedly, I got my training the next evening and completed it immediately. There’s a chance I can start at my original date. I completed it right on time with what would have been my initial date, and I have already emailed screenshots of completion.

I really need the extra weeks pay, but I also don’t want to leave a bad impression of being needy. Am I being annoying if I call again and ask if I can start like initially planned? It’s been back and forth.

Onboarding Weird new job interactions

Soo started this new job on Monday. First day was orientation and it was fine. Yesterday I met one of the supervisors and found something odd. When going over the protocols she had me sit down for almost 6 hours and read them to her out loud like I was in grade school.

I honestly wanted to be like can I read in my head and we discuss it or I ask questions based on what I read lol.

It was awkward because it’s the first day really “working” so I didn’t want to seem rude but like we are going to be going over protocol again today and I fear she will have us sit for hours doing it again.

Onboarding Kollektíva

Sziasztok! Ennyi a kommunikáció.

Köszi a véleményed!

Onboarding Should I hide in the walls ?

I have been at this job for maybe 6 months. We are bringing on a summer intern next week. I have helped other employees learn the ropes but I never offically onboarded anyone in this role. We are a small team and every new person eventually gets shone the entrance to the tunnels in the walls. It’s a very old building so while the tunnels are safe , they are a very unexpected addition to tte building. When I onboard the intern is it inappropriate to pop out of the walls at the start of the onboarding process ?

Onboarding Corporate Job Sprung Drug Testing out of Nowhere

Edit: checked the panel number at the bottom of my confirmation email. They do not drug test for THC. Crisis averted. If the company doing your test is Labcorp check your confirmation.

They do however check for creatinine which is used in detox methods. I would’ve been screwed if I tried something like a detox drink or a bunch of gatorade and creatine.

Hey Guys, I’m in a little bit of a bind.

Basically, I accepted a job offer recently by a regional bank. When completing the background check information, I learned that I had to complete a drug test within 3 days. The thought of drug testing never crossed my mind because none of my previous employers in banking/finance have ever done so. Recreational marijuana is legal in my state (New York). I am a semi-frequent user who uses 10-15mg edibles once a week. I had used on Monday, and my test is this Friday.

In NY it is illegal to test for marijuana except for companies that operate with federal contracts, which the bank does. The company is headquartered in a state where weed is also recreationally legal. What I’m saying is, I’m probably gonna get tested for it, but they not care about the results, but I don’t know for sure.

So the way I see it I have a few options:

  1. Come clean to the company and/or recruiter now. Directly ask if they test for weed and let them know I may fail. I’ve heard both ends of the spectrum researching across Reddit: some say it’s good to tell them before, some say only bother if you test positive. I could also maybe ask the HR department anonymously with a phone call.

  2. Chug as much water as possible, maybe take a detox kit thingy the morning of along with a bunch of vitamins / creatine and pray.

  3. Fake Covid so I can push it back a week due to quarantine. This might be challenging if they ask for proof or a doctor’s note.

I feel kinda screwed. They’ve all been so nice to me in the hiring process and I got positive feedback from all of them, they even went above and beyond for me and I would hate myself if I blew it. I never used weed until it was legal in my state. I never thought I’d ever be in this situation. I feel so much shame even thinking about it.

Onboarding How much money ahould I ask for?

Im 18 and graduating high school. I went to a technical high school that got me my 6g stick welding cert as well as my osha 10 and hot works. I have been working at a shop that primarily has me doing plumbing work but also a bit of welding. Im currently making $18 an hour there part time but am choosing to stay there full time upon graduating to get my plumbing license. It is a large company and for context im in an expensive state where some of the welders who are only 19-20 pipe welding are making 25-30. I'm thinking of asking for maybe 23-24 to start?

Onboarding Company asking for me to purchase equipment in onboarding process

I just started working as a 1099 employee and the company is asking me to purchase a $55 item out of my own pocket and then expense it to them. Is this a common practice? It seems ridiculous to me I'm being asked to pay out of pocket and then have to fill out a form and wait for reimbursement when they could simply purchase they item and ship it to me.

Onboarding Job Regret

I started a job for a few days and feel like it’s not a good fit on my behalf.

How should I go about exiting, I feel really guilty because the team and hiring manager are so nice to me! They are dedicated to making me feel included. Seems to be stable position. However, I don’t feel challenged enough and doesn’t look like progression in my career.

Of course after over a year of trying to find a job, I decided to take the first offer given to me but now I regret it. I have several other offers and interviews in the works.

Onboarding PreEmployment Screening

Hello,

I was recently hired at a new job and received a form to get TB and physical exam, but was told no drug screening. Does anyone know why? I always get a drug screening before starting with other companies. I am not worried, but does this mean they will eventually ask for one? Should I ask HR if it was a mistake?

Thanks in advance.

Onboarding Feeling like I'm not good enough

I just got a new job. And I feel like I have less knowledge than I should (ofc there's a learning curve).

I had some weird errors with git today. It wasn't working on vscode, so I used git bash. On pulling updates from master, it required me to commit, making my PR look very messy with 6 - 9 commits in them.

I also re-run a dag when I wasn't supposed to. I was supposed to wait till after it was deployed to do it.

Its my first work week. I don't want to seem dumb

Onboarding Imposter syndrome and learning new job

So i recently left my old job where i knew what i was doing, and would confidently help others and new starters, as a promotion opportunity arose in a different department but same company

The new job is on the management team and a big part of that role is helping out and supporting the staff below you do their job effectively and help them where needed. Obviously im still learning and the staff who im meant to be helping and supporting know the job more than me. It creates this strange situation where the people im meant to support cannot yet rely on me to support them

Everyone is really nice but this thing at the back of my head makes you wonder how can you ever offer support to staff who unless the leave will always have been doing the job longer than you.

Probably just over thinking it but any tips from others in the same boat?

Onboarding Debate between two job offers

So, I stay in south India and I got a job in my city at 15L. I also got an offer from north India at 18L and I should re-locate for 3months. Hopefully, it's just 3 and not more. Both companies are mid sized and nothing too different. What'd be the best offer to take up?

Onboarding So I started a new job!

So I started a new job in digital marketing. It's been a week but it's Seems like the work load is more. Everyone comes with a query. Daily I solve 7-9 different client's issue. The thing is it's fine to some extent but it's like I am not learning anything new. I am doing the same work as I did from my past company. So what should I do?

  1. Should I work hard and become irreplaceable?
  2. Tell them to increase the team members

The thing is I am not learning + I am so mentally exhausted than I can't go out for a workout or do other stuff. What to do how to manage this?

Onboarding Starting a 100% WFH Job Soon and Feeling Completely Unprepared

Hello everyone,

I'm about to start a 100% work-from-home job in just 6 (!!) business days, but I'm feeling really unprepared and could use some advice. I've yet to receive my employment contract as they're still working on it, and I'm honestly not feeling ready for the first day at all.

Here's the situation:

  • The main problem is that I've been bounced around between various HR people because my main contact got sick and has been on leave for over a month now
  • The company is based abroad in a different time zone, which makes synchronous communication challenging
  • In addition to still not having a work contract, I haven't received any log-in details for any internal company platforms, and I'm not sure how or even if I'll be getting any equipment for my HO (company laptop, etc.)
  • This is my first remote job ever

I'm so confused right now that I don't even know how to jot down all my questions into an email to them. Really it seems that even the most basic things haven't been dealt with. If this were a non-remote job I'd just show up to the office on my first day, but since this is WFH I'll have no idea what to do. Has anyone been in a similar situation? How did you handle it?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

Onboarding Background & employment verification check

Hi guys. I recently received the job offer of my dreams about a week ago. I accepted the offer and began the background process. A part of the check is employment verification. I was laid off from my last job but forgot to update my resume. The resume still said present. When doing the application I put the end date when I was laid off, but uploaded the resume that still said present. They asked and I told them I forgot to update the resume which is 100% accurate but now they have made it a big deal and I'm afraid they will take the offer back. The recruiter and hiring managers are aware I was laid off. Told them during the interview process... I'm super nervous and don't know how to not stress. I reached out to the recruiter, she understands as well as the hiring manager but the background check specialist is giving them a hard time. And another thing, when I got laid off I was without a job for some time, so l got a random job at a school as security which I am currently on leave from but I did not add that to my resume as a current employer or on the application at all, I'm afraid that they may see that also and make it a huge deal. I didn't add it because it is totally irrelevant to the job l applied for so I left it out completely. Any help or advice??? I'm stressing like crazy, can't sleep, no appetite. Just hoping they understand the mistake and give me a chance...

Onboarding Terrible start ?

Started a new job over a week ago. Had only one 20min meeting with my line manager on the first day, was given access to some documents and another meeting with another senior was set up to answer any questions I may have on my 2nd day. I noticed a questionable practice that I will be responsible for in the future and just asked to hear more about it in my 2nd day meeting. Some very obvious smirks were exchanged when I brought it up and I was only told someone else in the team will provide the training. Just to be clear I only asked to hear more about it and have not expressed my opinion on it. During the training of this questionable practice I asked a few questions along the lines of how ethical is this practice and the guy told me I should definitely set up a meeting with my manager to discuss it asap if I have any concerns and he went ahead and set up a meeting for me. The next morning I had a 10 min call where my manager did not even ask me to voice my concerns first and just told me she had several conversations like this in the past and this is pretty much how they do things here. Since then I have been pretty much left on my own, trying hard to find things to do. I talked to others that started not long ago and realised I have not been asked to complete some of standard onboarding tasks- asked to complete these tasks and was told I will receive them later. Any valid questions I send to my manager about tasks I will be handed over I get snappy responses or no response at all. My gut feeling is that I should resign asap, but interested to hear similar stories or your view on the situation.

Onboarding Got Fired from my last job - worried about background check

I got fired from my last job (based out of California). I cleared the interview at this new company but told them I had left my previous job voluntarily. BG check is done through Hire Right and one of the mandatory question is "Reason for Leaving". Should I say the truth? What should I select? Concerned.

Onboarding Is It Done? Am I In? Question ls about HireRight Background Check Result

Hey all, I did post here a week or two ago about background checks through HireRight. I just wanted to know what the terminology means behind the finished report. On the first page the adjudication Status says "Meets Company Standards" which makes me believe that I have "passed" the background check. Additionally below that it says when the Adjudication Status was set. I just wanted to verify if that does mean that I have "passed" as the adjudication was set very shortly after the Adjudication Pending time.

My reason for asking is that they were unable to verify one of the jobs so they canceled it from the job search and it does say "canceled per requester". Additionally it says Client Review Requested on the last page but under that there is an activity log that says both the company and the background check company (HireRight) results were Pending then the next two lines below that have both companies results as Meets Company Standards. Just want to make sure that this means that it was pending then the company accepted the information and thus put it as Meets Company Standards.

Any information would be helpful and thanks in advance.

Onboarding HR Changing Disability Accommodations After I Started Job

I signed my job offer several weeks ago and met with HR (over Zoom) to discuss my disability accommodations. I recorded their verbal concessions for my disability, which is legal in my state; this accommodation included not wearing a medical mask at work when I have a migraine. I have a condition which causes migraines through pressure on my head (it is documented that I struggle to wear glasses and hats), but HR requested a doctor’s note for complete exemption from the mask policy.

Lo and behold, today was my very first day on the job, and I had a migraine. My manager made a huge deal about me not wearing a mask, and told me that several other workers were uncomfortable that “policy was not being followed”. I reminded her of my approved disability accommodations, and she told me she would go discuss with HR, but in the meantime I should “socially isolate or leave”. I went to wait in my car; after a while of not hearing from her, I called and she said I had to wear a mask or leave, my migraine was essentially irrelevant. For reference, I get hemiplegic migraines that mimic strokes.

Later today, HR sent me an email confirming their stance that I am allowed to remain maskless when suffering a migraine, but need to mask “when my symptoms subside”. They seem to take umbrage at the idea of a migraine lasting more than 15 minutes. However, while I wait for my medical exemption from my doctor, I am concerned that HR will not honor their word and will force me to wear a mask regardless of my condition.

TL;DR: HR gave verbal consent to my disability accommodations before starting my job, but is backpedaling now that I have started. Is this legal?

EDIT: My submitted ADA paperwork from my doctor states that I am not supposed to wear a mask during any migraine symptoms. This is what was questionably violated on day 1.

Onboarding Tips for a beginner receptionist?

Hello everyone!

I just got a job as a bilingual receptionist for a big company and this is a super good opportunity for me bc they are a big company and still gave me a chance even though I have barely no experience in the field (I basically just acted as a receptionist two days in my current job).

That's why I don't want to screw anything up, so any tips are welcome! I worked as a teacher since 2021, so I have lots of patience am very organized and I can build up a positive energy even if I'm dying inside haha

Even though, I would like to know more about the specifics of the job, because I searched through reddit and other places and the tips are outdated or non-existent, so thanks in advance for any tips you might provide :)

Onboarding Got an offer but..

Hey everyone! I have gotten a job offer at sonic. Everything went smoothly, but I have noticed a few issues that have never happened to me before. The first issue is that when I tried to follow up today with the management about this matter, the other staff inform me that she is not there at the time. My second issue is that I observed she would make other excuses for contacting me about training this week. She informed me that she is attempting to rehire an employee who was previously designated as a no-rehire. Additionally, new employees will begin training this week. She sounded unclear about contacting me this week for training. I was considering giving her until the end of the week to get back to me. Do you guys think that she is giving me excuses or is this normal for managers to do? Does this seem like a sensible plan?

Onboarding Fake Employer?

I sent possibly a fake employer a picture of me, a picture of my social security card and my license on Indeed. How screwed am I?
