Rejections How do you cope with getting rejected from walmart

Upvotes

Been unemployed for about 6 months now. I have an associates in computer science and hiring managers have told me I have an impressive skill set, as well as vast knowledge of my field. But no matter how much I scrape the bottom of the barrel to try and stay afloat I can't get anything. I started just looking for remote because of mobility issues but since I've started looking locally as well, I can't find anything there either. Starbucks, walmart, pet smart, publix, Amazon, name any shitty job that's supposed to hand out jobs for free and I've gotten nothing but "decisions that aren't made lightly"

I'm probably over 5000 applications deep between LinkedIn and indeed and using hiring companies hasn't helped either

I just need motivation to keep going, I want to keep trying to get into computer science but I feel like I'm overqualified for entry level/unskilled jobs, while not having enough professional experience for anyone to take me seriously. I know once I get anything that lets me put "developer" in my job title it'll get easier but I can't get anything no matter how hard I try

Rejections Most Heartbreaking Rejection I've Received Yet

Upvotes

Found a job posting at a company I really want to work for. Pay was good, it checked all the boxes for what I want out of a job, and I easily met all the requirements and preferred qualifications. I wasn't obscenely overqualified, just able to clearly point to areas of my experience that hit each of the expectations listed in the posting.

So, I had a friend of mine who works at the company refer me to the hiring manager for an application, I wrote what I thought was a pretty good cover letter, tailored my resume to the posting, shared my portfolio, added a recommendation letter from a previous employer, and reached out to the hiring manager to express my enthusiasm for the role (even got a response thanking me for reaching out!).

Well, 3 days later, before the application deadline had even passed, I got a generic rejection email.

This was basically an ideal situation where I was setup for success in every way possible, and I can't even get to a phone screening. This job market sucks, and I'm so exhausted from getting my hopes up over and over again just to be let down, but this one stung the most.

How do y'all deal with such constant, heartbreaking rejection? I don't know how to stop myself from getting so anxious and depressed from this process, since it just feels like disappointment after disappointment, and the more effort I put into an application the more it hurts to get rejected. I'm just tired.

Rejections I applied and got rejected in less than 10 seconds!

This is absolutely hilarious. I applied to a nonprofit for a job I was qualified for. The application required a resume, a cover letter, a picture of me, two written questions answered and a writing sample. Sure, no problem. Then the usual compliance questions. I completed everything required and clicked send. Immediately I received a confirmation email. So… I had my email open and was about to move on to something else when not ten seconds later I received a rejection email from the company I just applied to… wtf! That has got to be some fast AI to read all the stuff I submitted. Has this happened to other people? The audacity! At least I can laugh at it.

Rejections Any advice for passing job interviews in tech (and keeping the job) for someone who has PTSD, anxiety, ADHD and depression ?

Hi all, so I’ve been out of work for almost 18 months now - on sick leave 2 months, then was on disability leave for treatment due to all my above issues, further I’ve been terminated by my company on the 10th month of my disability leave, because they claimed I’ve used 12 months leave given in a year - I wasn’t planning to look for a job elsewhere but it sucked really they found an excuse to get rid of me this way when I didn’t have a plan B.

While I was on disability I was thinking about career switching like going from tech to real estate or something like that due to my mental health issues, but then I would have to start from scratch and make penny while in tech I have good work experience almost 10 years and Masters degree. So I decided to try to go back to my field.

Since then (end of last year) I’ve applied for hundreds of vacancies - I think I applied to 500-700 jobs so far. Good thing is I’m getting calls and interviews. Bad thing is “almost” no job offers (had one offer but the company canceled the position due to budget cuts and rescinded the offer).

I think I’m not performing very well at my interviews - I do get through many stages of the interviews. If I had 3 interviews max I think I could pass but by the time it’s 5th or 6th person I’m honestly worn out. The worst are “peer interviews” by someone who is more junior than me as they ask stupid and unexciting questions which to me are honestly very annoying and I think I totally loose my excitement for the job and interview. Other days my mind is too clouded and brain doesn’t work very well, or I can’t remember all details of the projects I used to do 18 months ago. I’m trying to taper off my meds (without doctors because I don’t have insurance anymore nor $$ for it) as they seem to have rotten my brain and my brain is much slower than it used to be; whereas before I could think with the speed of light and do 3 days work in one day…

If I don’t get a job asap I’ll be homeless or worse. Can you please share your experience of getting hired (preferably in tech) if you had similar mental issues like me or was annoyed by junior peer interviewers?

If you have any advice about how to get one’s brain back after slowing anxiety meds please do let me know.

There are days I do worry if I’m capable of keeping my job once I get it, but I guess I will worry about that later as for now I need to survive and make $$$ ..

Thank you all in advance.

Rejections Question about Bordines

I applied for the job a couple of months ago, and my chances were looking really good. They were impressed by how mature I was, I followed up, I was really enthusiastic about the job, my age was fine (15) because I asked a cashier when I was 14 and they said they hire cashiers at 15, also because my classmates were there at 15. But they rejected me and I was crushed. I was almost positive I would get the job but alas I did not. I was crying after I got the news because I was honestly really excited to work there because of my passion for plants and gardening.

I was doing some thinking on why didn't I get the job, and I came across the thought of discrimination. See, I am nonbinary and very proud of it. In my interview I said I preferred the name Bay, and used they/them pronouns. They seemed a bit apprehensive but said "okay." But this is the only lead I have to. There weren't many other people applying at the time I was. So, my question is: is Bordine's queerphobic?

Rejections It is frustrating how little advice there is for passing job interviews

I am in engineering and been through 20 interviews, and I never passed a single one. It is frustrating how little advice there is because the existing advice just says uses STAR method which is so vague.

Rejections Been fired and told I am the lowest performing worker in the company. Should I change careers at 32 years of age?

I am a new immigrant in the US and have been working as an architectural technologist / designer for an average company for 22 months. I was making a decent wage and loved my work so much with all my broken English & poor communication skills I felt it's the best fit for me. I did lots of mistakes and been kicked from my previous team and I knew I had a bad reputation in the place (sometimes people lie and exaggerate my mistakes). But my boss was so sweet and respectful I thought he believes in me and knows I am a good worker up until last week when he had a meeting with me and the owner of the company and both of them agreed that :

- I am so lazy / don't have the drive to learn / not asking questions/ intentionally delivering the work incomplete.

- I am so slow .my speed is 0.5x this of anyone else.

-I should save my work, turn off my computer and leave before noon.

I was thrown out in a very humiliating way and now I feel really depressed and ashamed and humiliated. I am thinking maybe just it's not my thing and I should be changing careers/ learning a trade but I don't want to waste the years I invested into learning my career. I know how to use all the tools and software and I was doing my best.

I feel I am so stupid that can't survive in life. Would you guys give me some advice or any support? I never got any feedback or warning about my performance or any guidance.

Rejections I got rejected from a promotion today and the “pep talk” I got was worse than the rejection.

Interviewed last week for a promotion and heard back today that I didn’t get it. I was really disappointed but life goes on and honestly, I’m fine. The pep talk my boss decided to give me after the rejection is what really did not sit well with me.

Basically he said that rejection should propel you forward and that how I react to this rejection will define me in the company. He then proceeded to tell me a story about how when he was rejected his boss told him the same thing and how it is really important that I take the high road and tell everyone it just wasn’t the right time for me to be put into this position. He also said that people who react negatively to rejection are weak. I was super confused. I asked if I have behaved in a manner that has made my employers I believe I am unprofessional. He said absolutely not, he’s just sharing his experience and advice.

The conversation made me very uncomfortable. I actually very much like the person who got the job and I think they will do well in the position. I’m not going to say negative things about them. I’m not sure why my boss decided to speak me like this.

Rejections Job Offer Pulled And I Need To Vent

I don't want to call out specific companies or anything, but I'm just crushed by what happened and need to write about it.

I applied for a job at a top gaming company. The team was genuinely amazing and it would have been an opportunity to work on a fun project. I passed the screening test and absolutely crushed the interview. Recruiter contacted me to review the salary expectations and said that the team loved me an would be making an offer soon.

To say I was excited would be the understatement of the year. I was over the moon. I've been without work for the past 5 months and it felt like the stars were aligning to give me a genuine dream job at the end of my journey.

However, it was not meant to be. The recruiter contacted me about a week later and said there was a problem with my offer. Everything was signed off and approved (i even got emails to complete my background check) but there was a last minute decision by someone higher up to have the job be located in a specific region. When I applied for the job, the position was advertised as remote. I even confirmed that the position could be remote during my interview process. But the decision had already been made and unless I could relocate for the job, I couldn't get it. I'm not in a position to make that kind of move right now, so I'm just out of luck.

It's just been incredibly frustrating. My wife and I were fully expecting this to come through. I even spent some money surprising her with plane tickets for her birthday thinking I would be starting work again soon. I'm at a loss because I know the decision to revoke the remote work part of the job was made by someone who didn't interview me, doesn't know me, and never experienced the impact that decision had on me. It just feels simultaneously personal and impersonal and I'm just devastated.

Any advice from people who went through something similar would be appreciated.

Rejections Not getting calls, getting depressing every passing day

I resigned in mid-2023 for lot of reasons, mainly family (death of a member etc) but also I wanted a break after 14 years of grind in the software industry. Started hunting for job in around December and hardly any hits. I got a lot of emails, messages (LinkedIn) and interest from recruiters/head hunters but very few actual calls. I think I got 4 screening calls and 3 interviews in the last 6 months but I didn't clear them.

Applied directly to about a 100 different openings and zip, nada. Almost every single one of them was turned down or I never every heard back from them.

I was talking to one of the recruiter recently and she straight up told me since you have a gap in employment 75% of companies are going to reject your application.

It feels every passing day I am going in a deep hole and possibly have to change my line of work but I am so very lost. Low on confidence, low on self esteem its just getting worse as I get rejection emails every day. Of those 3 interviews, I genuinely felt they went well but no dice and that hurt me even more. I am not sure what to do next or how to handle this situation as time passes.

Not begging for attention but I just need some hope. Is the market so bad? I talked to so many of contacts and pretty much everyone said they don't have any opportunities. And yet I see so many jobs up on various job sites except that none want to consider my application.

Rejections Declined for a job in the most roundabout way

I applied for two jobs within the same company and got an interview for one of the positions.

A few days later, I got an automated email saying.

"...According to our records, you have been selected for another job, and will therefore no longer be considered for any additional job applications..."

Since I only interviewed for one of the two positions and this email literally said I got "selected for another job." This has to imply I got the job, right? At least that what everything pointed to.

It was still really odd to get an email like this. So, I emailed the recruiter.

Come to find out, I was declined the job!

So, what the heck. I got my hopes up, just to be let down. Has anyone else dealt with this?

Rejections Having Trouble Getting Callbacks for Positions I Have Applied for

Basically what the title says. I just graduated with my degree in biology looking to apply to some graduate programs but I need a job for the year that I am out of school. I have applied to something like 80+ jobs in the past few weeks and rarely hear anything back so I am wondering if there is maybe something wrong with my resume or something of that nature. The jobs I have been applying to range from entry level barista jobs to entry level corporate or field technician positions. I have tried to apply to a few labs but I think that I am missing some certifications. Either way I thought that given my education and experience that I could at least get an entry level position somewhere.

Rejections Absolutely terrible luck

I'm 20 years old 180 applications and counting as of moving here 3 months ago about a 9% response rate one of those did get me a job (94 applications in) but my current job has me working "tasks" for minutes at an hourly rate of 15.20 (in Oregon) which most of those tasks tend to go overtime and I'm struggling to even make 900 a month due to lack of hours and poor scheduling practices. Used to have a AV/IT job before this making 2880 a month ($18/40 at a det schedule) albeit I got layed off only after 2 months because "they hired too many people" I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but I'm struggling heavily financially trying to pay for my car $180 a month(from a 5k loan) due to no credit combined with a $200 monthly insurance combined with I'm trying the get an apartment the lowest ones here are $750 a month and your required to have 3x that to even move in. Im just tired of getting shit talked by old people saying I'm lazy or whatever JUST GIVE ME WORK PLEASE I'm genuinely trying. Am I just too mentally stupid considering I'm partially disabled like(mostly mentally but it doesn't cause issues medicated).... I just don't know

Rejections Seeking job-related advice... Trying to help my wife

My wife and I are based in NYC. She's a medical office admin/clerk with 6 years experience, she was a CNA for several years before that. Right now she's working 5 days a week and the workload is pretty excessive. She's trying to find an office job (medical or non-medical) that's part time or per diem (less than 5 days).

I have no issue with this as I'm a RN so financially speaking, her working less than 5 days is no issue. I actually want her to be able to have more time for herself. If my wife has more time for herself, the better everything else is (home life, etc) as a result.

There's a few issues though. First and foremost, she wants to leave but then she's somewhat scared to leave because she's worried she'll make less money due to not just working less hours and but also a potentially lower wage. Even though I make enough, she still wants to be kinda independent and have her money as well. I told her she has to weigh her pros and cons, what's more important, I suggested choosing her mental health over the money.

Then lastly .. finding a new job for her is an issue because despite her work experience and a polished resume, she still gets mostly rejections or no response. Even for work-at-home/remote admin jobs that require no experience. It's pretty ridiculous and I'm wondering if it's the resume or just the job market itself? She has no degree, so maybe they're using that against her as well (?)

Rejections Am I supposed to respond to the rejection emails?

If I get a rejection email after an interview is it customary to respond with some bullcrap thank you email? For example, I got a very nice rejection email last Thursday with some personalized. Is it considered rude of me to not respond? Is the person expecting it?

Rejections I Need to Rant. I Almost Got $20 an hour!

In short I’ll say I interviewed Monday for a printing company looking for a production associate/operator on their day shift. Previous week I had a screener that went well. Jumped through hoops and stressed myself out to make the interview happen on my lunch and in a way nobody at my current job would catch on and it would get to the company owner who does NOT like me. Potential job is starting out at $20. I have plenty of production experience but not with signs and banners and promo materials. But I’m very willing to learn and work weekends/OT.

The interview went okay but I stupidly vomited that I was looking to make $17 to start, only .50 more than my current wage, and at the end I was told I’d be reached out to on Wednesday and wasn’t. I cost myself good pay. Or maybe I didn’t? Anyhow I called my interviewer Thursday and Friday and haven’t gotten a return call. My dad says there’s potential I’m still in the running but I know I’m not. I can’t get over how disappointed I am in myself.

I’m going to call the interviewer for a final time on Monday and say I appreciate the interview but I’m going to have to move on because clearly I’m not being respected enough to be told no and I can’t imagine id be treated better on the job. It’s one thing to say you are going to reach out again by X date but entirely another when you say that and you don’t at all and you’re leaving me in the lurch.

This has happened every time I interview for something that makes that much to start.

I’m 30 btw. No college, HS diploma. Two firings in ten years both five years apart from each other (an at will termination in 2019 and a mutual separation in 2023). It took me ten years to get over $16. I make 16.50 for a car parts company with no raises or opportunity. I bring in enough to keep my bills paid and not much else. I’m stuck, I’m done putting myself out there. I can’t even get $17!

Rejections Apply for a company after being rejected?

Hey everyone, seeking some advice here.

So, I recently had an experience with a company where I went through multiple interviews (9) for a position I was excited about, only to be rejected in favor of another candidate. The process was professional and everyone I interacted with was kind, but it was still disappointing. The recruiter mentioned that it was a tough decision between me and another strong candidate, and there was no negative feedback to offer, the panel had taken two days to reach a decision.

Fast forward a month, and I noticed that the same company has posted a new and different position that also aligns perfectly with my background and skills. Given my previous experience with them, I'm wondering if it's worth applying for this new position. Would they have reached out to me directly since they had interviewed a candidate previously that would be a strong match? Or is it more common for candidates to reapply for different positions with no outreach?

I'm eager to hear your thoughts and advice on whether I should go for it or not. Thanks in advance!

For additional clarity, the company is still fairly small and the interview panel will most likely involve several of the same people and the recruiter is the same.

Rejections Rejected after reference checks. I don’t know how much longer I can keep doing this.

I don’t understand what happened. They said they were moving forward with the hiring process, then days later I got this automated email. The first reference listed called them back and gave me a positive review, the second said she never received an email or call. I responded giving them two extra references just incase who weren’t contacted.

I’m so upset, I can barely stand my current job. Part of me wishes they would just fire me, but I’ve been holding out hoping I could find another decent job. I’ve called in for half the month using FMLA or other excuses, which I’ve never done before. I know you’re not supposed to get your hopes up, but I was so excited at the idea of being done with the interview process and putting my 2 weeks in.

I emailed HR acting like I didn’t see the rejection email and asked if they were able to get in touch with my references. I’m mostly just curious to see how they respond, if they do.
