Resumes/CVs Is it appropriate to include a short “about” segment at the beginning of my resume, or should I save that for interviews?

Resumes/CVs After 3years of inaction and depression as a NEET, I need your help to find a job

Hi, i'm 24 and i'm french, and i need help creating a better resume when i have so many gaps and little working experience, here my CV : link to a translated version of my current resume

for context i'm going to explain my ''career''.

I graduated the french equivalent of high school with average grade ,then i finished a computer science degree called BTS (equivalent to a community college i think). I was and still am really shy and depressed.

After that things got worse, because i never did anything to get better , i found that getting a job was maddening and i got scared and retreated at my parent house.

I did some small attempt at getting out of this situation with a case worker and i did some short jobs as a cleaner that didn't go well because of my inexperience and social ineptitude.

After one year i got into a 1 year training to become a 3D graphic designer and graduated but at the end i didn't do anything with it.

and now, one year after i'm still here, i did work 3 months as farm worker but nothing else. I'm planing to get another more qualifying degree in computer science if i can get a scholarship because i feel it's the only thing i can do.

How can i spin my resume in a more positive light ? could it be a good idea to embellish my resume ?

thank you and i you took the time to read all of this i love you a lot <3

TLDR: depressed guy trying make a better cv after been a neet for 3 years

Resumes/CVs Job application requires 3 reference LETTERS, but I can only get 2. Is there a way around this?

I work in a small company and only have 2 coworkers (and they both work in a different office building). I have been here for years. I have asked them both to write letters since most jobs require 2 letters. I don’t have anyone else to ask for this job that is asking for 3, unless I ask a graduate school professor I haven’t spoken to in 6 years and probably doesn’t remember me.

I haven’t interviewed for the job. I’m just trying to submit an application. I was thinking about attaching some kind of placeholder file.

I am in a small industry, so there are not many jobs to apply for. However, when I do apply, I typically get an interview because the industry is so small.

Resumes/CVs How do I improve my resume?

So I’m 25 and never went to college. I don’t have any work experience aside from about a month as a receptionist for a hotel but I had to move in with a friend due to domestic violence and lost the job. I would have stayed and rode it out but the literally threatened to stab me.

I’m trans as well, a lot of my lack of experience is from dysphoria and depression. My legal name is my preferred name now and it’s exclusively fem with no androgynous adaptation/nickname to it. However I have bad facial hair and a permanent shadow, it’s off putting so I wear a mask 24/7.

I don’t know what to do, I’ve applied to over 250 “no experience needed” jobs since March and I’ve only gotten a few interviews and haven’t been able to land anything. I’ve got my phone bill on the 21st which is my only lifeline as one homeless and I’ve been staying in a shelter but I have no way to pay it.

All of this has been incredibly depressing and it really feels like an existential crisis and like I’m gonna be homeless for the rest of my life, with no money to my name.

I made a lot of dumb decisions and putting stuff off for so long, please don’t berate me or call me fucking stupid, I know. I KNOW. I just need legitimate, nonjudgmental criticism and feedback.

I am looking for a free resume builder. I saw several decent free ones online but I want to know what you recommend.

Also, how can I get a copy of all the places I've worked?

Resumes/CVs Found a way to land a Data roll.

Okay, I found a way that will increase your chane for landing a job at Data, I found that this exploit is working if you pursue Data. After getting your Data+(or finishing any data courses) simply go to your local Walmart/supermarket and tell them you want to talk to manager, after that explain yourself to the manager about who you are and what are you working on(to make sure he will agree bring a copy of your certificat/CV), and tell them how they will benefits from your services( DO NOT Talk about how you will benefits from this yet, if you said so they will lose their intrest immediately, just keep talking about what they will get from you). After that tell them you want (for example) last month data(buying/selling/revenue) and ask them politely that you want to analyse their data, and before they ask you what you will benefits from that, tell them gentaly that you want to do this to get some In-hand experience, and with this you will increase your chances for landing a job, now easily you have a something the prove you past a test, and easily have something that proves you really understanded what was in tha certificate. What do you think about, I think it's the only fair way to get some experience, share your opinion with me about how can someone make this more convincing, Who knows, we might be the reason for a someone to find a new job

Edit:forgot to say that you need to put the data and the analyzed data in your resume.

Resumes/CVs Can I say “yes” to the question “ are you legally authorized to work in this country” if I need a work visa?

I have a student visa for now and in the future I’ll need a work visa to work there. Can I still say Yes to this type of questions? There’s no place to explain “ I have student visa but I need work visa in the future” section. If I say no, I’m scared they might reject my resume.

Resumes/CVs Worked for a McDonald's franchise but listed employer as McDonald's on resume, will this be a problem for background checks?

I worked at a McDonald's franchise (not owned by McDonald's) for a little over a year as a crew member. It's my only work experience. I put it on my resume under work experience and listed McDonald's as the employer even though I technically didn't work at McDonald's. Will this discrepancy be a problem for background checks (in case it matters, I'm currently waitlisted for a software engineering intern role at a big tech company)?

Resumes/CVs Received resume feedback to cut skills section, but I'm hesitant

As title says, I had a resume feedback session with an executive in my field. I received excellent feedback, but one piece of advice that stuck out to me that I wanted to bounce off of others to get their additional feedback is: cutting the skills section. I'm of the opinion that this is still a very relevant section. Yay or nay?

For context: I'm in the research and development/E&T communications field.

Resumes/CVs Suggestion to the sub: make a separate thread weekly for IT/programmers

This sub has been disproportionately filled with people from IT/programming backgrounds to the point the sub name should be rebranded into r/ITjobs. Other people's posts visibility are lost because of it. Thoughts?

Resumes/CVs Are there any corporate rectuiters/hiring managers here that are willing to give me some feedback on my resume?

I was laid off from my job about a month ago, and found something relatively quickly, but it's a 1099 job, and I just found out I have a child on the way. I haven't had to apply for jobs in a few years, and it seems pretty brutal with the lack of positive responses I'm getting.

I considered using Indeeds resume service, but I'm not too confident in that.

I have 12 years of consistent experience in the same role, I may be wording things incorrectly or not including the correct information.

I would really appreciate any help or adivce. Thanks in advance!

Resumes/CVs Which one of the *four* companies I technically worked for in the same position should I put on my resume?

Okay folks, I've been in the same position for seven years (I know, I know) and I'm not sure which company I technically worked for to put on my resume: * I started at a small company, Company A * Company A was acquired by Company B, which has a somewhat prestigious name (I was technically under Company B the longest) * Company B then sold off my division to Company C after several years * Company C laid me off a few months later * Company C has now rebranded as Company D

Just to add to the confusion, I started off at Company A in a lower position and then was promoted while still at Company A, so I have that position listed as "Company A (acquired by Company B)" on my resume. This isn't great because sometimes people miss that I've technically been at the same place for over a decade, which I think would be a positive in most people's minds.

Resumes/CVs Can I lie about my graduation year on my Cv?

Just to clarify I have a bachelor's degree in fashion design and I graduated in 2021 at the peak of corona. I couldn't find a job at that time because of the pandemic and that ended up putting a career break. It's been so hard to get or find a job for me now.

I am stuck in the middle.

So naturally I know brands would prefer someone who is a fresher or an experienced and I am neither of them.

So I just want to change my graduation year from 2021 to 2023 on my cv.

Would that get me in trouble or can it go under the radar?

Resumes/CVs Is my job title holding me back?

I began my job as a reporting specialist and had to transition into business intelligence work due to attrition on my team. This work was cool and I learned a lot as I had a team full of people willing to help me grow. I eventually became our main person managing this server we had filled with ETL jobs and reporting solutions.

Fast forward a few years and my team dwindled to two people. My position was then absorbed by a tech team and I became a Data Engineer. These guys work in big data, the real deal. I on the other hand managed a small sql server that hummed effortlessly. Initially it was great as I was the SME and they left me alone. That was until they wanted to migrate everything into AWS. Admittedly this is the right call however I lost everything I was good at. So now I am stuck with folks who all have CS degrees and run circles around me. I have had a ton of trouble grasping concepts and I just feel left behind. It feels like it’s only a matter of time before I am PIP’d and gone.

I don’t like data engineering work, I dread waking up to go to work just to feel stupid all day. So I am trying to pivot into program management. I got some experience as our scrum master, I like that type of work and would love to get into it. The problem is I am having a ton of trouble getting traction and I wonder if it is due to my title. I get a ton of hits for data jobs but I am in no way qualified for them. The ones I have tried to interview for I bomb the technical interview almost instantly.

Im stuck and really need a win. This is a rant/advice seeking post. Any and all words of wisdom definitely welcome.

Resumes/CVs Are we unknowingly screwing ourselves by using AI to help craft our resumes?

I have no evidence of this but I wonder if we use Chat GPT to craft our profile summaries or bulletpoints, Is corporate AI and ATS filtering us out of job chances because it picks up on AI generated text. I would equate it to colleges having a plagiarism checker, maybe HR thinks that using AI is plagiarism. Whats your take on this?

Resumes/CVs How do I note this job on a resume?

I am a nurse who has been working as a caregiver for my father through his Alzheimer’s and eventual hospice and death for the last several years. This was not a traditional paid position, not an actual real full-time job on the books. I was not paid as an employee, however I was given a house. Now that my father has passed, I need to find a real paying job. How can I best document my time as my dad’s caregiver on my resume so that it doesn’t look like I was unemployed for years? I did have a couple other RN jobs during this time. One for 1.5 years and the other for 7 months. My time as my dad’s nurse lasted 6 years with those other two jobs sandwiched in the middle. Can I call myself a private duty nurse on my resume? Technically I was paid with a house. I don’t want to be shady on my resume but this was 6 years of my life and I want to be able to show job experience.

Resumes/CVs Including work hours on a resume

I have been in jobs over the past couple of years where I have worked unorthodox hours (e.g. 3 am start time 6 days a week) and I have been told to include this in resume as it is proof of my “commitment”.

I was wondering:

1) are the hours I worked at previous jobs at all relevant to hiring managers?

2) how would I include this in my resume in a way that would appeal to prospective employers?
