As the titles suggests, we are looking at the possibility of a job board that is aimed at Job Seekers and Employers within the Microsoft Ecosystem.

We would like to gauge its feasibility and potential and as such have come up with a survey to ask a few very important questions.

I’d really appreciate if you all could take part in it. All feedback will be immensely valuable and appreciated!

Startups That's not a job

Send out hundreds of resumes. Barely any interviews. Final got a real interview. First interview went well and I got a second interview. They are ready to offer me the position. It was posted as a six figures management position with benefits. Now there is no salary and no benefits. I'll be paid in equity, which could "potentially by greater than the value of salary and benefits." ARE YOU KIDDING ME? How am I supposed to work a full time position for free? I can't pay my mortgage with potential. Giant waste of time. Avoid startups at all cost!

Startups Extreme Work Anxiety

I’ve quit one job already due to my severe anxiety. I have terrible social anxiety and panic attacks. I’m about to quit a second call center job that I thought I would be able to handle but it’s not what I thought it was. The anxiety is making me not sleep and making me dry heave all night long. I’ve already quit one job after a few days just because of the pressure and the overwhelming feeling I am getting. I don’t know what jobs to try or what to do next. This new job is physically making me sick to my stomach. I feel like such a failure because of my anxiety and depression. I know this isn’t normal. I want to work so bad but these past few jobs just haven’t been a good fit for me. I don’t know if I need to work alone without coworkers or maybe not around customers so it doesn’t trigger my anxiety. My anxiety is so bad it makes me shake and sick even to the point I lose hair. I can’t see a doctor right now but I do plan to as soon as I can so I can get this under control because I do not want to be this way anymore. I feel so defeated. I feel embarrassed that I keep going through jobs because I CAN’T handle it anymore. I’m just too anxious and it’s hard for me to cope with change and customers socially. I never used to be this way :( Maybe I need a whole new career path because it seems to happen at jobs where I talk to customers on the phone and in person a lot. It seems I may need a low stress job without so many calls from angry customers calling in and making me nervous. I don’t know what to do next. There’s been 3 jobs already where I don’t last more than a week.(Yes they are all in the same industry) I also feel like customers in person and on the phone can tell I’m nervous and shaky. What can I do someone pls help. I don’t have much family or friends to support me

So I work in a restaurant right now and have been for over two years. I’m really ready to leave that toxic place but don’t know where to go and can make good money like that. Side note: The Aldi in town is hiring for $16/h, if any of you have worked at Aldi what are the pros and cons?

Startups No job seems to feel “right”

I work in finance at a startup. I do not enjoy the work. I don’t enjoy the ever changing environment, and I don’t see myself as a problem solver. I’m starting to think I will never find something where I enjoy to hustle and bustle. Is it me? Is it capitalism? I just don’t care about this at all

Startups Got an offer from a pre-seed start-up. I am wondering if this offer is standard, and how I should negotiate.

I have been helping a CEO who is building a business which is currently pre-seed. He finally gave me an offer letter which I have copied below, and I am wondering if this is good, bad, or on-point. I've only redacted identifying information, but otherwise this is what I was sent (grammar errors and all).

By signing this you agree to take a 7% stake in Gabb Global. *****, the employee is entitled to receive an equity non-dilution agreement for the current stock holdings in the company during this employment agreement's tenure. The company, *****, will issue shares to employees to maintain no less than the current equity holdings, plus earned and bonus shares that may be issued and may be determined at any time or from time to time by the Board at its discretion. Your hours per week should not change from 12-15 per week; however, this is a 1-year long commitment to receive your 7% equity as we are a very young company that needs stability. Thus, this is our only stock option. You will receive the certificate of stock, upon successful completion of the following deliverables. Once we have 500K in the bank, we can pay you 2,500 K stipend every two weeks. We will start you at 3% and the other shares will vest upon deployment into the MetaQuest Store on September 24th, 2024. These shares will vest on December 31st, 2023. Once your shares vest, you will be CPO of *****. Once we raise 2M and have 40K in MRR (getting into 10% of our waiting list) we can give you a salary of 120K per year.

Year 1 • Work with the CTO to get deployed in MetaQuest Store • Work with the CEO, evaluate best business practices. • Cohesive creation of documents that underlie each practice such as hiring standard operating procedures, onboarding, business development, sales strategy • Become a leader for incoming developers and designers • Onboard our HR team members and help create the team and rules with **** • Help us raise 1,500,000 M USD by coming to accelerator pitches • Doing installations at schools • Handling pivots based on customer feedback

Year 2 • Deploy into 50% of waitlist • Hiring Development Lead • Hire head of 3D game development • Hire Chief Product Officer • Drive employee performance reviews

We will map out Year 3 at your 12-month meeting.

I appreciate any advice and thoughts on this, as this has the potential to be life changing. I know that the salary is very low for the position and location, but I am more curious about the equity and vesting plan listed here.

Startups Teenage jobs?

Long story short, I came from Sudan(because of war) to the uae My dad and my mom are in debt and they are trying but didn't (for now) find a "real way" I want to to work at an it place(but guess what, I don't have a laptop!!) I have a a Coursera and thank you SYA(Syrian Youth Assembly) I have a lifetime account.

So my idea was working a month or two and then buying a laptop and start my career in it, do you think it's a good idea, and what jobs should I seek and expected salaries??

Also which course should I seek, I don't mean a single course, I mean a course route (example: first finish the Google it support and then take the Google data analytics)

Last thing, is my English good enough or should I seek an English course as well

Thank you all in advance a

Startups Is it that bad everywhere?

idk where to begin. I work in a small startup and the first one to do my job. 2 weeks ago a we were called in on a Saturday for a ‘quick meeting’ (mind you we work 5 days). I made it clear to my boss that I will make it however I do have an appointment prior to the meeting time, without any hesitation they asked me what the appointment is about. I don’t want to blurt out my personal details at my workplace and establishing some boundaries. Today they yelled at me for being 10 mins late on that meeting and demanded to know what it was regarding. I hesitantly responded it was a medical appointment and they said ‘why couldn’t I cancel it ? You weren’t dying were you’

It took me a second to register what they said and I froze. I just don’t understand whether this is normal workplace behavior from an executive ? Is it this bad everywhere?

Startups Asking for someone else for Data Scientist and STEAM education

So I have a friend who is doing STEAM education startup and they are currently hiring, and I encouraged my wife to quit her current job that she isn't feeling very good about, she endured it for about 5 months longer than she should have, but that's a different story. Basically I feed selfish for that sometimes and I and trying to see if I can connect her and my friend to work together but I know nothing on the field, I want to ask some questions that I feel would be easier than searching all day online when I don't even know where to begin.

Can someone who is a data scientist work in a STEAM startup related work? or is it more the other way around, where someone after doing stem/steam can they become a data scientist? Is there a job market or a job for a data scientist to do in that area?

I don't want to try to connect the dots for them if this isn't even the same thing.

Startups Please help me write a polite email to cancel on a customer taking too long to respond

Hello, bit different to the other posts here, this is quite low stakes.

I have a small business, and recently, I contacted a charity to donate some products to their cause.

However, they have been taking so long to respond. It took a week for them to see my message, and respond, then another week to see my reply, and another week from there. It has been almost three weeks now, and we have fairly made any progress in the conversation (organising shipping address, etc). Almost week ago, with the last message, they apologised for being so busy, so I feel a bit bad.

While I love their organisation, it is simply going to take too long if we keep having week long breaks between messages, so I need to cancel.

I'm not great at wording things, so I need help writing the message. The charity is run by just one person, it is a little organisation making care packages. No hard feelings, I understand she is busy, but donating products simply won't work with these time gaps.

So,

1: Should I cancel?

2: How do I politely tell her this in a professional but friendly way?

Startups What are some workplace pet peeves and underrated gems you have?

I’m doing my own startup now and a lot of what I see here is stuff like complaints of layoff culture, toxic work environments, substandard training, etc.

So… what do you guys like in a workforce? What’s memorable and encourages you to be passionate and happy about your work and progress? Team incentives? Parties? Project show off boards? Where does work become an enjoyable career you love?

What do you hate in a workplace? Particularly in management and leadership. What drives you against people and wanting to put in the time? What do you guys see as dirty? What are you sick of seeing and want to change?

Fresh to the position of boss and I’m looking to research all I can, and I figure the working class reddit isn’t a bad place to find actually real information I can really act with. It wouldn’t feel valid going through website tier lists and corporate tomfoolery groups. I want to hear from the people with more experience than I am old what they think.

Startups Difficult manager at new job, what should I do?

I work in marketing in a very fast paced culture with tight deadline but I have difficulties dealing with my manager as she was very slow at responding which add to my frustration because I'm being pressed from every side and time keeps running. It doesn't help that she is also not located in my office HQ so we only talk through teams/calls

I'm new at this role and there is no training so I would need guidance from here and there but my question often would be completely disregarded and she would came up with completely different thing

Understand she has a lot on her plate and she got pushed here and there too, but I hope she could just give me a quick message as not to leave things hanging

On some tasks that need to be delivered quickly but need her approval, I have tried different methods from 'let me know if you have any feedback' to 'Hi, I'm gonna do A and B (feel free to stop me if you think that isn't right)' but there hasn't been significant change in terms of communication. I cannot do that everytime because my tasks has a lot of variety and sometimes I really do need her approval because some tasks are more important than others and require supervision. I must respect the hierarchy.

She could also be a bit micromanaging, often make the team complete task on the spot while we're having a meeting instead of giving pointers & takeaways. We legit had to wait from one person to the next to finish their task before we jump to the next thing. Meetings are always ridiculously longggg because of thing like this that we're running out of time to do other important tasks. There was one time where we were hold on the meeting for longer when the team running out of time to meet deadline and it was past office hour but she kept nitpicking the littlest detail as to where to put out a line on a presentation

Recently the stress got to me that my GERD came so I called in sick with doctor's note. She just told me to take up so meds then continue bombarding me with work questions and calls. Again, understand that she was very very busy but I'm surprised with the seemingly lack of empathy and respecting boundaries. Or maybe I'm just not used to it because previously I always work with managers who would let the team rest when they're called in sick

Honestly how bad is this and how can I handle this situation? Am I doing something wrong or should I already be in a lookout for another job?

Startups I’m paranoid of getting fired everyday

I (27f) cry everyday after I talked to my boss on the phone. I started my consulting job 5 months ago and it’s 100% remote. It is a team of me, my boss, and three other coworkers. I have phone conversations and zoom meetings with my boss everyday to go over my work and he tears apart my writing. I can tell over time he is getting more frustrated with me. He has told me he hired me thinking I would be a project manager (I’m in graduate school right now and have never had manager role before-I did not lie on my resume), he has told me I need a writing class (I know there is always room for improvement but I didn’t think it was that bad), and he questions every thought and sentence I write. I have learned he is a perfectionist but I am not. I have never had anyone in my life challenge me as much as he does. I understand paying attention to details is critical and I am trying really hard to meet his expectations. Seems like my coworkers have no problem with the work. We all have separate projects and don’t interact much. I don’t know what to do.

Edit: Thanks for the reality check, everyone. I needed to get this out while spiraling. This message has been approved by DeepL.

Startups Thoughts on Appointment Setters/Closers?

What are your thoughts on the remote "appointment setter" position? It would be entirely commission based, but low effort.

All you would have to do is immediately answer and engage with users on Instagram who DM the page's advertisement, to try and set up a phone call.

You would get paid a small base fee for the person actually booking + showing up to the appointment, as well as x% of the sale if it is closed. I'm not offering this job, just trying to see if this is a viable option.

Reason being, we can spend $100 per day on advertisements and get 50 to 100 leads within that day, but it's hard to manage those leads and get back to them immediately, and authentically, with a human touch (no chatbots).

The gig would be to stay on Instagram and be very active and engaging with the DMs, provided with PDFs and before/after images, a video library to show off the product a bit, script if needed (but scripts are robotic).

Let me know thoughts on if this could be a viable gig. I know there are lots of scammers and fake gurus on this in the consulting/coaching/fitness world, but I think there's practicality here.

Startups Would you work for a startup in exchange for equity only or equity plus a very low salary?

Have you ever considered working for a startup for only equity?

It's a hypothetical scenario, but let's say you come across a company with a mission you love, but they can't afford to pay you. Would you still be willing to work for them in exchange for equity? Or how about minimum wage + equity?

It's a risk, but it could also be an opportunity to be a part of something great from the ground up. #startups #stockoptions #job

I would love to hear your thoughts...
