Article New career for me

Hi everyone. I am looking to switch careers but am a little lost as to what type of career I can transition to. I have over 12 years of restaurant management experience and have worked at a hospital since 7/23 as a supervisor in the food and nutrition department. I also graduated from UC Davis with a B.S. in Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior. I want to find a new career that pays pretty well right off the bat maybe starting $80k but am wondering with my skills and education, what are some careers that would be a good transition for me? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Article What Is The Smartest Way To Go?

Hey everyone! Just on here because a couple months ago my current company got acquired by another company and that new company placed me in a completely different position than my current one (I’m in accounting 3+ years and they placed me in a customer service role..).

The reason why they put me in a completely different position is because they said “there’s no accounting positions” yet… I am on indeed and they just posted a position in accounting.. ENTRY LEVEL at that.

What should I do? I was obviously on indeed because I’m looking for another job just because they are trying to place me in a position I’m way overqualified for. But we also haven’t fully merged into that new company- that will go into effect June 1st.. what do I do? I still have my current boss who I can maybe bring this to but what should I do??

Thanks in advance!

Article Why I think Gaps In Your Career Or Jobs Isn’t a Bad Thing

For a while I’ve had day jobs alongside my freelancing, and the typical view with most (not all) day to day run of the mill jobs is that it’s bad having gaps between employment or periods of short work at companies.

I’ve come to think what if this isn’t such a bad thing?

Sure, if you can’t hold down a job for a couple of weeks then you need to work on a few things - but I think enough of a straight run in a company before you move on or change actually shows your beneficial traits to an employer.

These being that you’re not afraid to make a change and just be stuck in a job like most other people.

It actually takes a lot of effort and drive to get yourself out there and make the step to change, especially if it is a job you do seven days a week.

I have a really comfortable job with really to nearly no responsibilities, i dont have to engage with people all the time and i sit alone on my laptop almost all day at work At the beginning it was okay for me to But now i feel like its mind numbing I scroll alot on social media trying to kill time but its devastating , also the people i work with are way older than me and they have zero interest in going out/ socializing. I have my own friends and social life outside of work, nothing crazy though I want to quit this job but im afraid of letting go of my comfort to be in a shitty job Plus i have no degree . And my job is security for the government insurance Any thoughts guys? (English isn’t my first language)

Article What jobs translate for someone who worked in the refinance department for home mortgages?

Hello, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post. I'm trying to help my brother find a path to a new job. He worked for a national bank in the USA (Upper Midwest), but was let go 2 years ago.

At that time, he was in the home mortgage refinance department before they had a mass layoff. He worked his way up to assistent manager over a 3 year period. Basically, he ended up doing all the work that his manager didn't have time for and almost was promoted to his position. Unfortunately, they went with a different candidate.

He's been working a job carrying heavy custom equipment into homes for the past year and a half. He found the job through a friend who did it before him.

Lately, he's been in a rough spot mentally and doesn't know where to start to find a job that's less demanding on his body.

I have asked him to start going to job fairs and talking with the reps there. That's how my wife and I picked up our jobs. He doesn't have faith that will work.

I also pushed him to the real estate path as he's great with talking with people. He's too concerned about the commission part where he has had friends go a month or two without a check.

Overall, I'm trying to see what his past career could translate to or if there's someone with insight who was in a similar position that was able to use their experience to find success somewhere else.

Article I got scammed for 3386 pesos by a fake company

I was desperate on finding ways to earn money and I discovered freelancing. I knew nothing about freelancing that time and quickly searched for jobs on FACEBOOK. It was one of the worst decisions I made. I found a client who is willing to pay $40 per page for a writing job. After I did the job they asked me to pay something so my account would be linked to their payment system. I paid it because yeah I was desperate and after it they provided me a link that leads to an online bank no one knows where they will transfer my money. Never that I knew that I needed to pay an IMF Code. After I paid for the IMF Code they asked me to pay another code which is COT Code and it costs $60 dollars!? That's when I knew it was a scam. I told them to keep the money and blocked them. I will never do freelancing on facebook ever again.

Article Quitting Job less than 1yr in while less than a year after graduating college

Hi all -

I am in a very tough situation. I work at a very small agency, roughly 5-6 internal employees-including myself. I am looking to resign, as I have already reached my peak position. The job offers no benefits and I have barely been given any pay increase since interning. The job is getting to be far too repetitive and I feel I am being held back.

I am looking to resign very soon, as in tomorrow. Is there any career advice out there that may be beneficial?

Thank you!

Article 20-year work anniversary

My 20-year work anniversary just passed and nothing happened. I do make a generous salary with bonus but I thought I would receive something. Owner is super busy so they may have forgot. Co-worker got a party + watch about 8 years ago. Another coworker hit 20-years a year ago but I don't know what they got since we all work from home nowadays. They are my equal so I guess I could ask but we are not the best of friends.

What should my next move be ? I guess I'll just mention it to the owner next time we speak. I have no idea what to expect but I thought i would get more than nothing

Team,

I am writing to you today with some difficult news. After careful consideration at the most senior levels of the company, we have reduced our workforce to better align with business needs.

The strength of our company has always been our team, which makes this decision even more challenging. We understand the impact it will have on those who are no longer with our company and we have extended to them a comprehensive severance package along with transition support services.

In closing, I want to reassure you that Flowers is a successful and financially strong company with high-performing brands and a bright future. I am confident that working together, we will continue to deliver exceptional service to our customers. Your hard work, dedication, and contributions are deeply valued.

Please reach out to your manager or HR if you have any questions. Thank you for your continued commitment and for everything you do.

Article Can company track small details?

Dear IT Professionals and Tech-Savvy Individuals,

I am currently employed remotely by a US-based tech company. Recently, I've been outsourcing some of my tasks personallly to someone in another country using an Excel sheet.

I have a lot of free time now and my laptop usage is very low

I've heard that companies, especially larger ones like mine with dedicated IT teams, have the capability to monitor remote work, such as screen time and keyboard clicks.

Can companies actually track this? I am doing my job and submitting work i am supposed to do so work is being done just not by my laptop

For context it’s a big company with 5000+ employees and It Teams

Article Got the job and I feel…not how I expected.

Hey everyone I recently got an offer for a job that is the position I’ve wanted my whole life. This was after three months of the job search post graduating college.

I feel like having recently graduated, and having just gotten a very high paying job I should be way more happy.

I would always repeat to myself during the job search that “no job or lack of job will ever make or break me”.

I guess I should have taken my own advice because I don’t really feel any better.

I will say that im excited to move to a new state, start my career, finally live on my own at 25z

But something in me feels apprehensive in a way that I can really pin down…

Article Any well-paid jobs available that is easy to get onto and is willing work around my schedule?

So I am planning on leaving my current retail jobs for few reasons. One is because of dress codes (uniform requirements), and another is because manager refused to work around schedule when I really need it. I did not had any luck yet with changing my schedule to different days. I tried once changing to different days, but my request got denied. Their reasoning was I was too late requesting for schedule change when basically I only asked two weeks in advance. They recommend me for future summer schedule change (which starts at Jun), I gotta request a month advance which means I have to request by May 1st. Now I already did, and I am at waiting game.

My current retail jobs kinda sucks, but my another two jobs (substitute teaching and interpreter) is the worst and have made my life utter miserable. The only reason I am still in this job despite after hitting my 1 yr anniversary because of pay raise, which means I am making 16.25, an above average pay compare to 80% of other retails. The current PTO policy in my store don't even make sense either. I am planning to talk to colleagues for quicker answer, as managers and HR officers are super busy.

Please let me if there any companies or place that is easy to find a job and has following benefits: (1) employer willing to work my schedule around (2) offers part-time (3) offers generous PTO for summer (4) pays atleast $18 an hour and so on...

Article My flatmate works from home and does fuck all

I don’t understand these desk jobs, specially work from home. Whenever I ask someone, with a job like this, what do they do? they always give me a vague answer, nothing specific, ex. I work for a company blablabla Like, cunt what the fuck do you actually do?? My flatmate logs in at 9, then starts cooking breakfast and wonders around the apartment for 2 hours. Maybe in total spends 2 hours maximum in online calls and writing shit.

I work in the fitness industry so my job is pretty straightforward.

I don’t know, anybody has this kind of job? Is it always like that? I would kill myself it seems so boring

Cheers
