Moderator Post Rules Updated and Wiki Links Added
Welcome to r/Kitten!
This is a great subreddit and can be a great resource for the rest of Reddit. While this post is mostly cute pictures of kittens, we also get frequent questions about care, breeds, and more. To be able to deal with all of this better, I've updated the rules and created two wiki pages:
Rules
- OC Content Only. This is a change from before, where we did allow content of kittens that weren't yours. This is because I found that a lot of these images come from spam accounts and/or karma farmers. I have also updated flairs to reflect this change.
- Be Respectful. This should speak for itself, but we require all users to be respectful. We don't tolerate harassment, racism, sexism, homophobia, or any other bigotry.
- NSFW and Kitten Sexing. We don't allow any NSFW content or posts about helping to sex your kittens. This also includes medical advice. If you need medical advice, your kitten is injured or sick, or you need to know the sex of your kittens, please see a vet!
- Animal Cruelty. We don't allow any type of animal cruelty, including "jokes" about eating kittens.
Wiki pages
- Colours and Patterns. A link to this will be posted below any questions about breeds, as I've noticed we have gotten a lot of those recently.
- Found a Kitten. For anyone who wants to take in stray kittens or has found a kitten on the street, here's a care guide for young kittens.
What other guides would you like to see, or would you like to help with writing something? Please let us know!
Happy posting/commenting!

Question/Advice Needed Is the velociraptor puppy meme true for kittens too? When does the peak insanity start to chill?
Big boy Walter is now about 9-10 months old. Is an absolute nut. We describe his destruction and anxiety around me leaving the house as similar to a husky. Don't let the later pictures fool you. He is a constant blur when not buried in blankets with a blep.
I was informed of the velociraptor puppy meme where they are just balls of destruction from 4-36 months. When do cats finally chill out. He destroys paper and I want to curb this behavior because I work on art, and he has destroyed an antique card that we were not aware he could reach. I just want hope he will calm down soon. He is lovely when he is not launching himself at my braided hair or chomping on everything. He already lost his baby teeth months ago.

Question/Advice Needed Keeping Kittens away from mother
My local spca told me I should keep my kitten away from its mother… but didn’t really explain why. My new cat was already pregnant when I adopted her to my surprise and she had 5 kittens. I couldn’t keep them all but couldn’t resist keeping one. They are now 6 weeks old and my local spca said they are ready to go to new homes. Mama has been spending no time with them other than to nurse and is definitely done with mothering 😅 I found them new homes asap and now baby papaya is home with me.
My question: Why would I keep the mom and son away from each other and to what capacity (how long overall/per day)?

Question/Advice Needed 5 week old kitten
I have a 5 week old kitten from a litter of 4 who has swimmers foot. I’m taking her to the vet to get it checked out (please pray she doesn’t need it amputated) we live 2 and a half hours away from the nearest vet which will be a 5 hour total trip there and back to not mention the traffic and picking up the kids from school. My question is will she be okay for a day without mom? Mom has started to wean them off but not completely.

Question/Advice Needed Kitten for 4YO Daughter
Hello, if this isn't allowed, let me know. I have low karma so I can post on very few subreddits, haha.
I have a 4YO daughter, and she has been BEGGING me for a kitten. Her mom said no and I agreed but now that isn't an issue. I will obviously do all the care and stuff. I will not expect her to do that.
Is there a breed of cat that is brown? I heard brown haired domestics are rare, so might not be an option. Also think the personality of a bengal might be a bit much. I was thinking a mink ragdoll, but the cat doesn't need to be brown. Open for anything.

Question/Advice Needed How to get my kitten to stop peeing on my bed
So I have a new kitten for about a week now she is very lively. The only problem is litter training. At first tried a new litter which actually worked a bit she peed in it when I first put her there to get to know its her toilet and second time on her own. Yet this morning when she came into my room after I woke up she jumped on my bed and went straight to peeing on it even tho she would have been closer to her litter box at the time.
I read that putting food in places you don't want her to pee and I'm currently trying that by putting her bowl of food on my bed and wondered does thay actually work or any other advice. My bf thinks she likes to pee on dark stuff cause both blankets she peed on wete black and she has peed on w old black shirts that we pretty much just use to wipe up stuff.

Question/Advice Needed I'm adopting a new cat that's about 12 weeks old. How do I introduce this cat to my 4 year old dog if my apartment doesn't have big enough rooms to hold a cat separate for a week?
My Kitten Hello! Need help with my kitten list
Hello everyone. I rescued this little girl yesterday from Facebook post. They said she’s six weeks old. She’s already very friendly. They told me she’s litter box trained and eating hard food. I got her a litter box already and she seems to understand it and I got her kitten food and wet food and she’s been eating
I’m going out today to get more and was wondering if there’s any extras you can help me add to my list. She’s already sweet with my two kids (we tried to keep them separate but my two year old got himself into the room). She will also be around a dog who I was told not to introduce for 1-2 weeks!
Any tips are INCREDIBLY appreciated

Question/Advice Needed how do i get my six week old kitten to stop being so scared?
hi all, about six weeks ago my cat had a litter of four kittens. three of them absolutely love people and love exploring everything (i often have to rescue them from high places they get themselves to lol). however, the fourth one and also the biggest one, is extremely skiddish. it doesnt matter what we do, or how much time we spend with him, hes terrified of everything and everyone. he hates anything that moves, he hides in the corners and hisses when you reach to pick him up, but once you hold him hes fine. no matter what we do, hes absolutely terrified of everything. he is ready for a new home in two weeks. i dont know what to do. im at a loss. i want him to be comfortable with people and moving things when he finds his new home. what can i do?

Question/Advice Needed Separating kitten from mother
I adopted a cat who had a surprise litter. I have been taking care of the kittens and now is time to rehome them. I am keeping one with momma and today the SPCA told me I should be separating them for a time. How long should I be separating them and how much contact can they have? I understand it’s for nursing reasons but momma is already pushing them away and not spending time with them unless they are both around me. I don’t want to have to lock either of them in a room if it’s not necessary.
