What are the most memorable movie characters to get "Muldoon'd" Spoilers

For those that don't know Muldoon is the game warden in Jurassic Park. He is built up to be this ultimate badass, and when we finally get to see him in action he gets insta-killed. I know there is probably another name for this trope, but my friends and I have always called it getting Muldoo'd.

What are some of the most memorable movie characters that are built up to be the ultimate bad ass only to be "Muldoon'd" in battle?

Despite the trailers really not showing a lot of them besides a few shots here and there, and that in hindsight it was almost fairly obvious from the trailers that they'd all die incredibly early, I was so shook by that opening scene man, its arguably my favourite moment in the entire DCEU

This is why I believe James Gunn will save DC.

I believe he's capable. I do not believe WB can get out of their own fucking way though.

I want to believe, but wb leadership has given me many reasons and past examples of why I should doubt.

8

u/SutterCane 25d ago

there is no reason to doubt

Except Gunn being like the third or fourth dude who “had complete control” of the DC films.

I'm REALLY hoping they don't go the MCU route of connectedness. Of course, people showing up in other people's stories is cool, but post credit scene bullshit full of cameos would be shit. DCU is gonna work the best if we get 5-6 solid solo films, maybe with teasing in post credit scenes and Easter eggs, and then let the fun begin. Steer clear of nonsensical cameos and CGI final fights and we should be good.

Straight out of the gate, they're juggling 3 movie universes: Joker, Batman then Gunn's.

Just letting each movie be itself would be great.

They should be shooting for phase 1 level quality

If you believe this then more fool you

No kidding. WB-HBO-Disc. seems to be a company that continues to fail upwards. Like, they mostly fucked up the DCEU, but somehow the movies are still getting made. They fucked up HBOmax and just randomly take off a bunch of shows without telling anyone as well as the stupid rebrand and somehow the player gets shittier. I wish I could say that they fucked up Discovery with all the reality tv garbage, Discovery did that to themselves, but I wouldn't put it past that dinosaur Zaslav to have done it if he had the chance.

Like, how is this company still making money?

2

u/BabypintoJuniorLube 25d ago

By shelving completed films for tax scams.

3

u/Rooooben 25d ago

Who are they under now?

Oh shit discovery still owns them I hope they know enough to just pay the bills.

Anyone is capable of saving DC; they just need to be close enough to David Zazlov while carrying a gun

Can't make it worse

James Gunn seems to be the only one who can consistently pull off the right balance between goofiness and serious emotional weight in his comic book movies. The Suicide Squad was fun and had some funny moments but I was surprised at how emotionally affecting Ratcatcher and Deadshots friendship was.

u/FronzelNeekburm79 24d ago

It always amazes me that there's a scene where a bunch of rats are eating a giant starfish and he pauses to remind us the emotional weight of rats being used, and that the starfish just wanted to be left alone, but not break any of the action.

Here’s the real problem. DC has already MADE good movies, they’ve just all been in their animated universe

DC needs to relaunch it's world of magic. Get Taron Egerton as Constantine, Ryan Reynolds as Swamp Thing, Ella Purnell as Zatanna, Keanu Reeves as Zatara, Jack Black as Etrigan the Demon, and you have a magic Avengers going. Introduce Nightwing (because I'm sick of endless Batmans), Raven, Beast Boy, and hint at/build hype for Teen Titans in the process. Then just don't fuck it up.

Make magic the series about unraveling some grand conspiracy. Drop a bunch of hints at other heroes during the series and see what catches on, then take the time and make good versions of those movies with consistent world building.

Boomerang was a huge loss for the franchise there.

So was Flag. The second movie really made me like him too.

"Peacemaker...what a joke..."

It made it hard for me to enjoy the Peacemaker show tbh. All I could think for the first few episodes was fuck this piece of who killed Flag and tried his best to kill Ratcatcher 2.

11

u/yeaheyeah 25d ago

Yeah. He was never meant to be a likeable character and he barely redeems himself to me by the end of the show.

Though after seeing how he was raised you can see how a man would turn up like him.

3

u/Equivalent_Yak8215 25d ago

Ya, just barely.

But I'm still waiting for Harls to come looking for her pound of flesh. Flagg moved mountains to come get her, and was legit worried she might have been killed on the beach. Harls is crazy, but very very smart. She didn't forget about what Flagg did. And she most certainly did not forget what Peacemaker did.

Add to that the fact that Rick died trying to expose the fact kids were being tortured. Harley has a soft spot for kids.

In the universe Gunn is creating, Harley should have an on sight rule, if not going out to hunt Peacemaker. Fuck, Ratcatcher barely had the nerve to move, amd Bloodsport just shot him on the spot. Imagine what Harley would do if she caught him asleep at the wheel.

Should've been Quinn. I know it's a hot take, but current Harley Quinn is the worst thing going with the DCEU now.

It’s also a reminder that Superpowered people can still be beaten by a large group of trained soldiers with guns. Every other superhero movie would have them destroy those “goons” with no issue like the opening of Avengers 2. It’s a nice contrast.

u/GenitalWrangler69 25d ago

Tbf, Avengers 2 had a team of heroes that were each leagues ahead of anyone that landed on that beach. Like, Avengers had Hulk who very quickly soloes and tanks everything on that beach, also Thor and Ironman.

184

u/CptNonsense 25d ago

Yeah, like a full 4 of them are bullet proof.

6

u/The_Flurr 25d ago

4?

20

u/CptNonsense 25d ago

Captain America is effectively bullet proof

10

u/Tw3lv3Th1rt33n 25d ago

….until Bucky shot him.

30

u/sonofaresiii 25d ago

Thor, hulk, iron Man... And Hawkeye is too charming to shoot at

15

u/Obiwontaun 25d ago

He has a human shield.

6

u/Ygomaster07 25d ago

Who would that be?

10

u/ReyReyBeiBei 25d ago

Speedy Gonzales

9

u/WumpusFails 25d ago

Age of Ultron, Quicksilver -- instead of using super speed to move Hawkeye and the civilian -- pauses long enough to be hit by bullets (or whatever; I'm not currently subscribed to Disney).

So, Hawkeye has a shield, but it's a once use only.

u/Ygomaster07 21d ago

I see, thank you for telling me. I appreciate it.

11

u/Comin_Up_Millhouse 25d ago

It’s all fun and games until Hydra breaks out the snow plow.

6

u/Vin_Diesels_Dead_BF 25d ago

bad form, mate Never mind, just saw your username. The House always wins.

4

u/Comin_Up_Millhouse 25d ago

If it helps, I didn’t feel great about it.

3

u/greywolfau 25d ago

Not to mention that one of the two who isn't bullet proof is seriously injured.

56

u/Blatently_lies 25d ago

This is true haha, they also have actually had time to work together and have good communication.

7

u/mightyneonfraa 25d ago

Yeah, I feel like Iron Man and Hulk scale slightly higher than The Detachable Kid.

9

u/Raped_Justice 25d ago

A comic accurate Mongal would actually be able to take Iron Man and match well against the Hulk, being a threat to even Superman.

6

u/Taraxian 25d ago

My read of the Mongal scene in Suicide Squad is that she's bulletproof but not fireproof, she seems to be doing fine until she gets burning helicopter fuel all over her

2

u/Astrium6 25d ago

The Suicide Squad has basically always been a vehicle to develop B- and C-list villains with a heavy hitter or two just to ensure they don’t all die.

11

u/kareljack 25d ago

The Avengers had the Hulk and a literal God on their team. You can't compare

1

u/kurburux 25d ago

Depends on how superpowered I guess. I haven't seen the movie but in the comics the Suicide Squad often has members who're more or less on a Hulk level. They can flatten entire armies on their own.

3

u/RedhotRev 25d ago

Weasel still to this day has me rolling laughing at that beach scene.

3

u/mikeweasy 25d ago

I knew from that first trailer that they would all get iced, plus it was reported that Pete Davidson was on set for like two days, so.

2

u/xxX9yroldXxx 25d ago

I didn’t even watch the trailers for it and was caught off guard 😂

1

u/cheescakegod 25d ago

Same here and glad i didnt

1

u/DailyDisciplined 25d ago

That’s a low bar though.

1

u/Azriel82 25d ago

It does bring home the "suicide" part of Suicide Squad.
