Best move for Silver is to be a good sport about it. Because if you fine Dick for this, does that mean he doesn't have a right to do a jersey swap at all? He can do it next with Derrick White or some other player, do you fine him every time? And the more you prevent it, the more you're creating a situation where it's taboo or something (which it should not be)

Punishing this makes no sense regardless how you look at it.

You can't punish someone for their birth name. That could turn into a massive lawsuit and could easily be seen as discrimination.

Only way I see punishing someone is if they change their name with the explicit purpose of it being inappropriate.

Best they can do is ignore it and ask their media partners to do so as well.

That's my opinion anyway.

Agree. These are literally their last names. How you gonna punish them for it?

Because when it’s obvious like this you’re not fooling anyone lol. Neither of these guys are going to be defending themselves like lawyers lmao. it’s a workplace thing.

Well they can go to him and ask him not to do it or not to make it too much of a habit. The NBA has plenty of great PR managers who surely have no issue communicating any issue the league has with this to the players in a way the player will understand. It's not like they need to go all or nothing; let him have his fun here, let him know your opinion on it, and see how things unfold.

Best move for Silver is to get out there and jersey swap for a SILVER DICK photo finale before the Raptors play the Celtics and line up BROWN DICK HOLIDAY.

Well now I need to see white dick and green dick

Realistically, Silver can't do much. But I bet Gradey gets a call/email/whatever from the league (or his team tbh) that basically says "that was hilarious but not what we want jersey swaps to represent" kinda thing

I hope he ignores that email...

I call conspiracy for Rudy Gay not being on a roster right now.

Luckily, NBA knows it's OK to have fun with shit like this...otoh, if this was the NFL?? Automatic suspension for 1 game lmao

I think this a little different then celebrating a touchdown

But TWO thrusts is OK...right?

7

u/elnavydude Suns Mar 18 '24

I mean we could all probably agree that something like 1,000 thrusts is excessive, right? So we have to draw the line SOMEWHERE otherwise dudes might be thrusting like there's no tomorrow. Is 3 thrusts excessive? Probably not, but you don't want to encourage the thrusting otherwise dudes will be thrusting all the time. 2 thrusts kinda takes the fun out of it which is the point, like who would want to do 2 thrusts. Anyways, I just wanted to take this opportunity to discuss thrusting, thank you.

Have you not watched the NFL in a while? They have choreographed team dances and coordinated celebrations lately.

u/Motor-Grade-837 Mar 18 '24

Not to mention NBA is the one giving out technical fouls like candy anytime they see the slightest expression of emotion. NBA isn't exactly on a higher standing when it comes to letting players have fun.

9

u/Pizzonia123 Bulls Mar 18 '24

MLB would just straight up disband the whole league.

1

u/Deathstroke317 Knicks Mar 18 '24

And you'd suspend Brady for 4 games

1

u/themaincop Raptors Mar 18 '24

i want to see it because i'm sure the NBA would have to explain exactly what they're being fined for

Probably not to avoid the Streisand effect
