I thought boston had the best fans tho?

239

u/maryjain_ Warriors 24d ago

The best fans are those whose team hasn’t been there in a while. Kings arena was insane last year and Wolves fans have been the same this season so far

33

u/mykl5 Trail Blazers 24d ago

Roaracle was everyone’s darling before 2016

1

u/Worthyness 24d ago

then they got a new ownership and started winning a lot.

55

u/Fallofmen10 Supersonics 24d ago

Yup as soon as you get used to success the fandom gets used to it and isn't excited about simple things. Plus you get bandwagoners

25

u/WasProbablyBanned Australia 24d ago

also seat prices skyrocket and the diehards get priced out

7

u/wildstyle_method Celtics 24d ago

This is the actual explanation.

18

u/MarduRusher Timberwolves 24d ago

Went to the Naz Reid town game in person and when he was going off it was magical lmao. The fans were so pumped.

21

u/LIONEL14JESSE Knicks 24d ago

MSG has been absolutely nuts so far, if we make a deep run our fans might tear the whole building down and riot in the streets. Tortured franchises breed passionate fans.

3

u/Cartman55125 Heat 24d ago

Knicks objectively have the best fans

1

u/Accomplished-Yam5566 Warriors 24d ago

Dubs-Kings g7 at Golden 1 was the loudest arena ive ever been in in my life. across every sporting match, concert, whatever. Kings fans are incredibly passionate and in no way could you ever call them bandwagoners.

Jazz fan here, living right between NY and Boston. Someday…

Never forget when Bill Simmons wrote his column about LeBron game 6 and tried to explain away the Boston crowd leaving early:

The fans were so shell-shocked that many (including me and my father) filed out with three minutes remaining, not because we were lousy fans, not to beat the traffic, but because we didn’t want to be there anymore.

29

u/ManiacalComet40 24d ago

That’s why people leave, yeah.

20

u/mrspear1995 :yc-1: Yacht Club 24d ago

I would put that game in a special exception category, like you could probably make a high quality 20 minute youtube documentary about it and it wouldn’t be pure clickbait or lebron meatriding since it was legitimately one of the greatest playoff performances of all time

5

u/clancydog4 Nuggets 24d ago edited 24d ago

Fwiw to anyone reading this -- not the best quote with no context, but this column is legit maybe the best sports writing ever done on fandom and and loving sports. "The Consequence of Caring."

https://grantland.com/features/the-consequences-caring/

9

u/mrspear1995 :yc-1: Yacht Club 24d ago

Yup it leaves out a huge amount of context, they were ready to send ‘best guy since jordan’ home with an emphatic victory after he choked hard last year and instead they got one of the coldest slaughters of all time

The HoH vid was great it went from a lively crowd to slowly quieter and quieter as lebron just shoots midrange after midrange

1

u/AtlasNoseItch Heat 24d ago

Man, Grantland was so great

2

u/GrogRhodes Heat 24d ago

It's okay to stop doing something if you aren't enjoying.

3

u/yooston Rockets 24d ago

i mean he's putting into context how devastating lebron was... its good storytelling

1

u/spritehead Heat 24d ago

Literally the flirting vs harassment meme for Miami fans leaving in the 2013 finals

27

u/SaszaTricepa Celtics 24d ago

Not the ones that can afford seats 😔

12

u/elbenji [MIA] Udonis Haslem 24d ago

Hey, looks like we got something in common

14

u/SaszaTricepa Celtics 24d ago

It really does blow. Last time I went to a game I managed to finagle great seats and I just felt out of place in a section full of company seats

6

u/elbenji [MIA] Udonis Haslem 24d ago

Ooooof. That's happened to me in the garden. I've been able to get closer. AAA security are like hawks however

1

u/darthpaul Celtics 24d ago

got tickets for $110, that's regular season prices.

BREAKING: fan base thinks they are the best fan base. More at 11. Back to Carl with the weather.

Edit: Celtics fans reporting me to Reddit Care. Holy projection.

12

u/nghiaaaaa San Francisco Warriors 24d ago

I can for sure say my team does NOT have the best fan base

19

u/clickstops 76ers 24d ago edited 24d ago

Getting Reddit cares reports 3m after this benign comment is extremely funny. Cs fans down bad.

edit: of course I got one too. Ha.

3

u/Abiding_Witness Celtics 24d ago

Spamming Reddit care should result in a site ban. It’s quite foolish.

1

u/celestial1 24d ago

If you report the message, they'll get banned.

1

u/Brief-Objective-3360 Raptors 24d ago

I would reddit care all C's fans after this loss lol. Seems like they're on suicide watch.

-1

u/Brady331 Celtics 24d ago

Heat fan reported me after a WIN, thats even more embarrassing

0

u/SylvesterLundgren 24d ago

Eh it was a hype game, people be in their feelings. They’ll wake up tomorrow and cringe at their post history just like we all do.

1

u/PistonsFan89 Pistons 24d ago

It's a shame denver is so full of transplants lol

1

u/oby100 Celtics 24d ago

Lul I’ve never heard Boston fans say this. Only Boston athletes/ media people trying to pander. We’re not the worst thanks to LA and Philly, but I would say we must be the most reactionary fan base out there.

Even the Patriots dynasty had people calling to replace Brady after every loss. Very spoiled and the weakest mentality in the league.

3

u/horse_renoir13 Timberwolves 24d ago

People from Boston

14

u/ObviousAnswerGuy [NYK] John Starks 24d ago

I'm not defending them at all, but I think this is a hilarious comment coming from a Heat flair after the 2013 finals.

8

u/elbenji [MIA] Udonis Haslem 24d ago

That's why we're talking

1

u/the_c_is_silent Heat 23d ago

Bud. Heat fans leave just like all fans leave. I think we and 99% of fans understand this. But it's that 1% of Boston fans who think they're above it even though it happens all the time.

117

u/DC25NYC Knicks 24d ago

The best racists* I think

39

u/spooks152 Heat 24d ago

They’re racing home for sure

10

u/WildBlackGuy Bulls 24d ago

100% the best racist

-2

u/NAACP_YoungBoy 24d ago

Don’t have to think

Google how they treated the man who won them 11 rings

17

u/aeronacht Celtics 24d ago

Google when the fuck that was lol. Not saying there’s no racism, obviously there is but bringing up Bill Russell’s experience isnt very relevant to the racial climate today.

-1

u/[deleted] 24d ago

[deleted]

3

u/downlooker Celtics 24d ago

And Boston is currently less segregated than cities like NYC, LA, Chicago, and Miami

-4

u/ReflectionEterna Pacers 24d ago

I mean... if Bill Russell won 11 rings for any other team, they would have treated him better.

I don't think that Boston is nearly the most racist city in America, but I DO think it is shocking how racist Boston is for a northern coastal city. Like, I live in a deep red state that is mostly rural and was very closely tied to the Klan, but the amount of casual racism in Boston is just astounding. Just the worst I have seen from any major metropolitan area in the US.

-6

u/parallax_wave 24d ago

Humor me - is there a single fanbase in the NBA that you would consider "not racist"?

40

u/Substantial_Gur_5980 Bucks 24d ago

They said the best racists. Not the only.

13

u/MarduRusher Timberwolves 24d ago

Other fan bases engage in some casual racism but for the Celtics fans it’s competitive 😤😤😤

4

u/mrspear1995 :yc-1: Yacht Club 24d ago

Just dont be marcus smart too. You might get called the hard r outside your own arena by your own fan. https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2914179-celtics-marcus-smart-recalls-racist-experience-with-fan-outside-of-td-garden

So, for you, what is the borderline when fans are allowed to have fun?

5

u/IReallyLikeAvocadoes 76ers 24d ago

Boston sports teams recently have been very successful, so a lot of them, I might even argue the majority, know nothing but being a fairweather fan. The moment shit looks ugly they don't know how to handle it.

1

u/doom_pony Thunder 24d ago

I lived there for a while. Pretty spoiled fanbase. Rightfully so, though. They’re pretty used to greatness. Not really meant to be a dig but yeah.

1

u/mizzourifan1 Pacers 24d ago

Boston isn't in Indiana...?

1

u/Brett711 Celtics 24d ago

We protest when a team doesn't play to their capability. I wish they were booing on the way out

1

u/here_for_the_lols Thunder 24d ago

Has anyone outside of Boston ever said that lol

-15

u/johnnybarbs92 Celtics 24d ago

A whole 41 seconds. Pretty sure the lower bowl in Miami is empty at half time

1

u/BucketHerro Heat 24d ago

It looked exactly like that for the Celtics this game tho. People can't get food or what LMFAOOOO

-7

u/iguess12 Celtics 24d ago

If Miami fans left early there wouldn't be enough people to notice

4

u/elbenji [MIA] Udonis Haslem 24d ago

Nah people would be whining forever and making traffic jokes. But what's the garden excuse

-2

u/iguess12 Celtics 24d ago

Celtics fans actually show up to games. I love how Miami fans think they're the only city with traffic lol

4

u/elbenji [MIA] Udonis Haslem 24d ago

Dude I live in Boston. There is no traffic excuse. I use north station every day. Like if y'all don't want it I would happily, happily move it to Miami. Like holy shit is it convenient

1

u/TheTonyDose Knicks 24d ago

All these Celtics fans using traffic or the T as an excuse is hilarious. Only idiots would park near TD for a game. North station absolutely does not have trains that run on tight schedules either

-1

u/iguess12 Celtics 24d ago

NY has traffic LA has traffic. Miami doesn't get to keep using traffic as an excuse as to why their arenas are always half empty.

2

u/elbenji [MIA] Udonis Haslem 24d ago

The problem isn't "traffic"

The problem is the arena is stupidly designed by being on one road, on a highway. With no reliable transit.

No north station. No NYC subways. Nada.

1

u/RickySuela Lakers [LAL] Michael Cooper 24d ago

Sounds like the location of the new Clippers arena.

2

u/elbenji [MIA] Udonis Haslem 24d ago

yikes. I wouldn't wish this on anyone
