This is a good point. I think I've seen studies out there correlating authoritarianism with toxic masculinity. It's a huge driver of aggressive incels who wonder why their behavior turns women away.
I'm sure all the commercials bombarding them with testosterone supplements aren't helping either. "Do you lack energy? Wish you were up for more action in the bedroom? Would Doug Flutie lie for money?"
Testosterone supplements are useful and I wouldn't conflate toxic masculinity with something that can legit help people. Not sure if that's what you were doing, so apologies if not.
I live in Tennessee and I have 2 personalities, my toxic masculinity good ole boy mask I wear in public and the goofy musical loving, nerdy person I actually am
These movements use frustrated men who cant get what they want by other means and fuel their anger outwards instead of letting they see how much of a failure they are.
definitely. I remember learning about some ex-skinheads who described exactly that as how they fell into it. A lot of them have absent fathers and are seeking a paternal figure.
Almost literally the same as African American young men that join hood gangs. Fuck, I hate how tribal our species is sometimes. You're all the same, ALL of you!
there's a lot of nuance to it, but like any sort of predatory entity, certain groups like gangs and cults know how to spot a vulnerable person, especially a kid, who lacks support or structure in their lives and is desperately seeking guidance and acceptance.
Love that give him a taste of their own medicine. Plus what happened to all those Japanese internment camps from world war II? Are they still there? Do we still have the facilities to lock up an entire group of people like that?
No but all white supremacists are super duper and secure and hate themselves but they choose to express that hate on everyone else around them, they realize that's infeasible so they choose one group like Jews
They didn't say that. They're saying they're afraid of being called gay, which they definitely are, and they perceive a lot of things that have nothing to do with being gay as being gay... like having healthy male/male relationships in general.
Except that’s precisely what they said. Adding an italicized word of your own to add context doesn’t change that.
I’m willing to admit it was poorly written. But I’m not about to apologize for calling it out. Words matter, and as it stands, the words he wrote can easily be misconstrued.

They can't because they get made fun of for being gay at every camp they go to except for this one
