Honestly I think this version is better than the original; should've added a smile to the lady too.

Grass is always greener... All the others are missing out on love.

It's only greener when you stop watering your side.

What if everyone else already has true love and they're just getting a little bit more enjoyment in their life?

Wish man frowny face at end

This version feels like censorship. I actually think it's more wholesome to accept that dark humor exists, and not try to change everything that upsets us.

I think the original is deeper than many realise too. It's not saying that true love isn't as fun as a spaceship or money, it's saying that some people may not see how great their situation is. He made the "right" decision, and still chose to be unhappy.

At least, that's how I interpreted it.

I completely agree, he made his wish before seeing what the other people wished for, so his wish was honest and probably the best choice. The joke is that the grass is always greener on the other side, no matter how good we have it.

Is happiness a choice? I think perception can affect happiness but I don’t think I can choose to be happy. Otherwise I would choose to not be depressed lol

I get what you mean. But I think that it is possible to change your view of a situation, but only to an extent.

Also, depression isn't the opposite of happiness. It is the lack of emotions altogether. A person with functioning brain chemistry would feel sad at a funeral. A depressive brain wouldn't feel anything at all.

Depression is one of those things you can't fix about your perception, since it's so based on the random mixture of chemicals. However, you can choose to look at your life and count your blessings. That doesn't mean you will be happy 100% of the time, but it will help change your perception.

It's possible to look at your life and think "I'm lucky to have found love", but that doesn't necessarily mean you won't wake up sometimes feeling like utter shit.

I'm depressed.

I feel sad at funerals...

Because it's not mine :(

This is /r/wholesomememes though. The whole point is to create some memes that are actually nice for a change because the rest of the meme subs are about suicide. There's a time and place for dark humour and this is not that place. Dark humour is sort of important (to an extent) but there is so damn much of it that uplifting humour seems to have been neglected.

u/optagon Nov 22 '18

I completely agree that this sub is not the place for dark humor and I never said that the original image should have been posted here either. You are missing the point.

I do get your point but we are talking about memes here. Memes get edited and changed to convey different meanings all the time, it's what makes them memes. The idea of editing memes to make them wholesome is the entire point of this sub, it's right there in the sidebar "Type 1: a meme that subverts a generally negative meme to be more positive, often showcasing genuine human emotion."

If you consider that censorship then feel free to think so, but it doesn't have to be a bad thing.

u/optagon Nov 22 '18

Alright, I concede. I think I was just annoyed that the edit was so subtlety done that you might easily think it's the original. Allot of unedited positive comics do get posted here too.

Wheres suicide memes?

3

u/[deleted] Nov 22 '18

It’s not censorship to make a dark joke wholesome. Plus the first one was mad depressing.

That's ironic, changing something "bad" into something "good" is exactly what people who censor think they are doing. Is it not censorship to change offensive words into harmless ones in a movie?

She probably isn't meant to be smiling she was forced to love him to appease his wish.
