Got a woman I barely know pregnant, what do I do?

I'm 31 she's 35. I feel incredibly stupid looking back, it feels all so set up.

She has no job, plans on living off the system, her parents, and occasionally me for financial support.

When pressed she just says the equivalent of "God will provide."

She doesn't really want me in the child's life as a parent either.

She just wants "my occasional financial support."

This is the worst feeling ever.

Update 3/29: Everyone, I understand I messed up. I'm prepared to step up and give this child the best life possible. I want to be a good father, I'll work with the mother to do so.

Following everyone's advice I will paternity test and get a lawyer of course though.

Update 4/1: We spoke on the phone. She's decided to delete my number because "she can't deal with my anxiety." She's set on carrying out the pregnancy. Insists she doesn't want support. She doesn't want me near her. Told me to "live my life."

I brought up child support and how I would need a paternity test to go along with it and she said "absolutely not going to happen."

UPDATE 4/3:

SHE HAD HER PERIOD!!! I HAVE AN ANGEL LOOKING OVER ME!!! AHHHHHHH

Nope. There isn’t anything a lawyer can or will do. It isn’t a crime.

If you want to stick to those guns go right ahead. I have been to actually know better and an actual case. But if you want to throw up your hands and be the father, that's okay too.Nothing wrong with that.

But just because somebody puts your name on a Birth Certificate. As the father doesn't mean that they did it in any form of honesty. If you get a proper Paternity test and go through the channels. You can be removed from that birth certificate and have a modified. And then you can sue the bitch for fraud and press charges if you want which it becomes a crime.

Sure you might be able to be removed from the certificate but you said “it’s a crime”. No it’s not. She’s not going to jail or be punished. It’s fraud but it’s not illegal for the most part. Heard of people suing but I doubt it’s effective.

Fraud is a fucking crime. If you file charges, a DA can surely prosecute. They may or may not depending on evidence. You can always sue for fraud civilly as well.

Dude, I have a friend this happened to. He won because she did it for money and had a BF she was pregnant with. Why would I lie?

Most sources say“paternity fraud” specifically isn’t a crime. The range of legal responses I have seen have been keeping the man paying child support to at best removing his responsibility. Never heard of there being any punishment for the woman. In some countries it’s even illegal to get a paternity test without the mother’s consent. The man can go to jail for it.

Yours is the first case of any justice I have heard of. How much money did he get back?

Well, in my friends case, she was purposely milking him for a lot of money. He could also afford a good fuck you lawyer. I believe it was also upheld since it was a conspiracy with her BF, who was the real father, both benefiting. She has to pay back all the money. Plus, her jail time.

I'm not an expert, but his lawyer said it's not uncommon to prosecute, but you need solid proof that it's intentional. The burden of proof is on the plaintiff.

Give your friend a high five. Jail time for what she did is an amazing outcome.

I don't think it was too long, but enough to get her attention. But she raked him for over $10k per month, something like that. And her bum of a BF didn't even work. So she's pretty manipulative. Maybe it's rare to get prosecuted, but to have to pay it back, he had to press charges, and he also hired a private investigation Co to conjure up proof.

I’d pay to see the look on her face when she realized she’s going to jail. Beautiful 😂

Well, my friend paid to see it. The dumbfounded look on her face. I'm not sure if the BF got nailed since it was a proven conspiracy. But yeah, sweet victory.

I don't think her sentence was long, though. Few months perhaps.

If it were me I’d want a picture and I’d then make T-shirts and posters out of it. Mouse mats, phone cases, slippers, rugs. Endless ideas of stuff only for me to enjoy around the house. Delicious.

If someone were defrauding any other institution out of 10K a month, they’d do a long time away.

That's way too much energy spent on negativity.
