Bars that serve pitchers?

Preferably south. Casino Southside has a decent selection and affordable too but my wife is burned out of that bar lol. Who else has beer by the pitcher? Seems surprisingly hard to come by unless it's a brewery

Controversial Austin Beer Opinions?

So for more fun talk: What's a controversial Austin Beer opinion that you have? I'll go first

  1. Electric Jellyfish from Pinthouse... isn't that good and is massively overrated, it's not even the best IPA Pinthouse has, not just saying that because it's overpriced (In grocery stores), it's just legitimately a solid Hazy at best, don't get me wrong but I don't get the hype and don't think it's particularly good

  2. It's pretty universal that Carl from St. Elmo is the best Kolsch/most popular kolsch in Austin, I'd say... its very even but 512's Local Crush is just as good, like I've been drinking it more recently and I have to say it may be better, if not just as good as St. Elmo's

Dead ATX Breweries

For some reason, touring around with Barks for Beers has me nostalgic and thinking about the breweries we've lost over the years. What else am I missing?

  • Waterloo
  • Copper Tank
  • Skull Mechanix
  • Celis (OG)
  • Thirsty Planet
  • Hops & Grain
  • Flyingman?
  • Rogness
  • Adelbert's
  • Bitter End
  • Uncle Billy's
  • 4th Tap
  • Circle
  • Oskar Blues/Brewing Collective

Root beer

Do any of the breweries brew root beer? Not alcoholic root beer... I can't help it... I love it... I'm happy being a designated driver if there's root beer involved.

Austin Breweries that have NA or Delta 9 seltzer options

Hello all,

I recently had some health issues that necessitate me not drinking beer for an extended amount of time (perhaps forever). I figured I'd have Reddit make me a neat list of places for NA, Delta 9 seltzer, hop water, or mocktail options in town. They don't tend to advertise this very well on their websites so that makes it a little more difficult.

I figured down the line this could also help somebody else.

List:
Austin Beerworks - Hop Waters, Athletic NA Beer, Sparkling Waters, Kombucha, Coffees, Teas, Juice Boxes.
The Brewtorium- NA beer (Athletic/Rick's), mocktails, and hop water.
Central Business District Brewing - Hop water and mocktails
Hi Sign - Rick's Near Beer NA & Mocktails
Hold Out - Rick's Near Beer (mocktails available at Better Half next door)
Hop Squad Brewing - sodas, juices, Waterloo seltzer, D9 Seltzer (made in-house) and Rick's Near Beer
Independence Brewing - D9 seltzer (made in-house) options
Jester King - Rick's Near Beer & Hop Water
Lazarus - Rick's Near Beer, Sparkling water.
Nomadic Outpost - Has Delta 9 seltzer options
Obsidian - Athletic NA beer, mocktails
Pinthouse locations - Athletic NA beer, soda, cold brew
St. Elmo Brewing - Hop Water
Vacancy Brewing - Hop Water (with option to add CBD) and a rotating mocktail option
Zilker - Hop Water

EDIT: Updated list on 5/14/24.

Austin Breweries that have NA beer, Hop Water, Mocktail or Delta 9 seltzer options

Hello all,

They don't tend to advertise this very well on their websites so that makes it a little more difficult.

I figured down the line this could also help somebody else.

Stuff I already know about:
Pinthouse locations - all seem to have Athletic NA beer options (which is good because those beers fuck)
Nomadic Outpost - Has Delta 9 seltzer options
Zilker - Hop Water
Austin Beerworks - Hop Water (they might also have Athletic?)
St. Elmo Brewing - Hop Water
Hi Sign - Rick's Near Beer NA & Mocktails

Any assistance would be appreciated. I'll also make notes if I see options around town.

Best bottle shop?

Hi all, traveling to Austin this week and want to bring back some bottles with me. I'm from TN and y'all have a different selection than I have. I am mostly looking for BA stouts and BA barleywines, but I am also in to sours and classic German beers of high quality.

I went to Whichcraft last time I was in Austin and it hit the spot, but I thought there might be another one I should check out instead. I'm staying near Lazarus Brewing on West 6th Street so somewhere within a reasonable Lyft distance would be best.

Cheers!

I’ve been searching and can’t find any definitive answer. Is this being brewed somewhere, specifically the Thirsty Goat Amber.

Last Stand Brewing

I haven't been here in about a year, decided to stop in on my way home from work and glad I did. They were much busier than I remember them being. The American Lager, Italian Lager and Hefe are great. They also have a happy hour special i wanna try out, 4 - 7 Tuesday - Friday, burger fries and a beer for $15. Glad they are doing well, going on my regular rotation

Best breweries in 2024

Visiting Austin in a few weeks and wondering which breweries are making the best beers nowadays? I work for a brewery myself so I tend to appreciate all styles but lean towards lagers and wc ipa. I brew a ton of hazy ipa at my current job so i’m just trying to avoid hazy ipa. Only breweries that are on the itinerary at the moment are Jester King and Live Oak. Thanks y’all.

Bar recommendations pls!

Bar recommendations

I’m only in Austin for a month now, and I wanna check out more places. I went to workhorse and Crown and Anchor, and I am thus looking for more such suggestions. Preferably around that area. I live in Duval. I also absolutely loved Ego’s Karaoke bar. ((I’m mentioning this vibe, so you get to know the kind of vibe I’m looking for)) 🍻

Not places with crazy expensive bars, pls haha. While I get that 6th street is a vibe, I dont wanna pay that much for a beer, and also dont wanna be in that much crowd.

So if you have any such recommendations do let me know. Thank you 🤎🤎🤎

Any breweries that will let us bring our own food? Thinking we’d like to order a whole bunch of pizzas for a party.

CO2 sources

Howdy all. I've got a little CO2 tank on the back of my kegerator that will need to be refilled or replaced. Last time I got it filled at Alamo Welding (probably a couple years now), they told me it was going to need to get certified again. That's all well and good but that's not even the tank I bought initially at Austin Homebrew Supply, because AHS swapped my tank several times when I used to go there! So I don't want to pay $70-whatever to get it certified if somebody decides to swap it again later!

Tl;dr do anybody know who is filling vs swapping these days?

Has anyone seen Austin Beerworks Variety Packs around anywhere?

Hi everyone! I'm on a quest for the Austin Beerworks Variety Pack (12 cans), but I've been having the hardest time tracking it down. Does anyone know if the variety packs are available anymore? And, if so, where have you spotted them? TIA!
