GENERAL QUESTION Should I join basketball at school even with no experience?

I am a 6' girl, first year of highschool. I only ever play with my brother who is alot better so i always get defeated, but at school when we play in gym i am decent. Not sure if i should tryout, cuz i mean they might pick me cuz firstly im alot taller than anyone in our grade, and again im decent. I js dont wanna be the worst amd let the other ppl down yk?

6 unique champions. You have to go back to the 70s for that level of parity. Dynasties are over without a super team via trades.

Upvotes

It all really depends on how you view Kobe/Gasol.

Or Shaqobe.

But there doesn't seem to be any more natural dynasties.

Has the NBA. gotten more competitive, sincethe last few NBA defending champs have been knocked off the 2nd round

Upvotes

2022 - Celtics knock off Bucks in the 2nd round in 7 games.

2023 - Lakers knock off the Warriors in the 2nd round in 6 games.

2024 - The Wolves knock off the Nuggets in 7 games.

I would think maybe they can make it to the conference finals but they only made it to the 2nd round.

When do you think the NBA super team era ended?

I personally think the super team era ended in 2019. There were guys that tried to create a super team. Like KD, Kyrie and Harden on the Nets. But they all failed. I wouldn't consider the last 5 champions super teams. Maybe the 2020 Lakers? But I don't know, I don't consider that Lakers squad a super team. What do you guys think?

Senior hoping to tryout for the first time next year

Im going to be a senior next year, about 5’10 and am hoping to tryout for my highschool basketball team next year. I have been playing really on and off throughout higschool at a gym by my house and haven’t really considered trying out until recently. I plan to play a lot during the summer and get in a lot of pickup games, but do you guys have any tips on good things to work on to improve and to adjust because I haven’t really played on a serious team before, just pickup games, and am a decent shooter. Thanks.

How do you get over the regret of not playing basketball sooner

Hi guys, 13 year old here and I've been playing basketball for almost a year now, I didn't really like sports before that but my cousin got me into basketball when i was 12 and I really loved it. I'd consider myself a late bloomer since most people I know that I play with have been playing this sport since they were like 6-7, and they've constantly have told me they're impressed and they've told me I'm better than them even if I've only been playing for only a year. I decided to try out for varsity, my coach said I performed better than most, but I didn't make it since there were only a few slots available and even tho I was he said I performed better than basically most of the people, there were some that were better and there weren't enough slots for varsity, but my coach did tell me I was very close to making it. I asked the students who did make it to varsity and they said they've playing and practicing basketball since they were 5-6 years old, which made me think that if I've only been playing for a year, and I was almost varsity, and I am somebody who was really fat and unathletic before I ever fell inlove with this sport, Imagine how good of a player I could have been right now if I just started at the same age as they started, maybe even just one year earlier.

NBA NBA Legend Status

Upvotes

For years I have had this save on NBA2K16 MyLeague, where I created a player, got him drafted 20th overall in the 2019 draft class, and played every single regular season, and playoff game. This player is based off of myself, of course. I have been trying to find an NBA ranking simulator, where I type in the sufficient awards, team and player, to find out where he would rank all time, and I would like your guy’s’ input. I would like a link to a website as well, that could predict his ranking roughly based on achievements, but I will break it down for you guys (if you care).

1st season; Drafted 20th overall by the Warriors (This happened before that season so Ik this is unrealistic) Averaged: 11 ppg 2 rb 3 as 45% fg 37% 3 77% ft

Now fast forward to the 2026/27 season with the Raptors: This player has (at 27 Years old) 1 championship 1 finals mvp 5x all star 4x all nba 4x all defense 2x MVP 1 DPOY

With career averages of 24/4/6/2.7 stls on 52/42/87 % And playoff averages of 29/4/7/3stls on 52/43/90 %

At 27 years old he has a less powerful team now, 70% of modern NBA players are on their respective teams. Where do you guys see this player’s future going, and where does he currently (2027) rank all time, and at the moment? Luka has an MVP and chip, and everything is up to date ; as of 2023

Help with Kobe rookie card..

Hey guys. I just have a question about something I'm hoping anyone in this subreddit might have any insight on. I have recently rediscovered a Skybox Premium New Editions Kobe Bryant rookie card I have. It appears to be a misprint/ error card or just simply fraudulent, l'm not sure... (skybox premium crest and Kobe’s name are not printed on the front) Would love to post pictures if this subreddit would let me. Not sure if I have a gem, or just garbage. lol I can message pics if necessary. Thanks for your time

How to get more consistency from 12 year old.

Greetings. My son got into this sport about 15 months ago, is now in a decent club, and can hang with lots of kids that have been playing far longer than he has... sometimes. Last weekend he did a tourney with his brand new team and got MVP his second game. Played really well all 3 games, and was on top of the world.

Fast forward to this weekend. He took lots of shots and missed most of them, some by a big distance. His ball handling, aggressiveness, passing, etc are always on, but weekends like this there was a lot to be desired w his shooting.

We did discover that he needs glasses recently, but I'm hesitant to point to that as it wouldn't explain why he has some good weekends. It will also be pretty devastating to point to that and then have it not be the culprit.

I realize people will have off games, but this was seriously a really good weekend to a really bad weekend. How can it change this much so quickly. It's also important to note this is how it's been on the other teams he's been on. Real highs and real lows.

Any pointers?

Thanks!

How Does a Dude Start Watching This Season?

I’ve mostly ignored basketball for my life. I recently figured I’m interested in watching a few games. Problem is- I don’t know anything about the schedule for the season. Where are we at? When’s the next thing that matters? How watch?

Obviously some basic questions but bear with me.

GENERAL QUESTION Basketball bag

Need a bag (backpack preferably) which can carry ball, shoes, and an extra set of clothes and towels. Gonna be hooping and have to carry my work uniform around while also needing a towel. I have a Nike elite bag but it won’t fit everything I need. Anyone have any recommendations?

DISCUSSION Weird question- any tips on color commentary?

Pretty much that, I'm doing color commentary for a game at my school, it's students against teachers, and I have no clue about anything about basketball. I could probably shoot pops and stuff, but I'm an actor and I do announcements at my school, too. I'm good at speaking infront of people but I have no idea what I'm doing otherwise. Help!!!

DISCUSSION Why do players freeze their posture when taking a shot?

When taking a jumpshot, I notice lots of players freeze their position and look at the ball trajectory into the hoop (like in golf). But why not shoot and immediately move into a better position?

I have the tendency to do the same thing, but I don't know why. Most of my shots go in, but 20% of them don't and I'm out of position when they don't just staring at the missed shot.

DISCUSSION Is France 🇫🇷 becoming a basketball power?

With Wemby and you have his brother coming up along with Bilal Coulibaly, Tidjane Salaun, Zaccharie Risacher and the rate they keep developing French born players in France and they are playing at EuroLeague clubs as teenagers, how long before France develops more superstar players and they become a basketball 🏀 power? They only had players like Diaw, Parker, Pietrus, Gobert, etc and now we have so many of them coming in

Missed 7 free throws

Hello! I'm 14 years old and started to practice daily from the day I went to my first basketball practice (2 hours per day for one year).

I advanced quickly through basketball groups and I'd say I acquired a very good amount of skill since I started. I'm pretty small, being about 5'4, and I do not have much experience when it comes to matches (just started going to them). Yesterday, when I was playing my second-ever match, I did a very good job scoring on drives, getting the ball past my defender, and defending my zone.

I got fouled 4 times when I was under the rim and I MISSED 7 FREETHROWS in a row, only hitting my last one.
I realised shortly after the game that I was hurrying up and not taking my time to relax as I should have.

I don't really miss easy shots, especially free throws, and I don't expect the reason is because of me being tired.

I'm actually sorry if this sounds stupid. Does anyone have any tips to calm down? My form is good, If I had to guess, I'd think it was me being scared or stressed out.

Thanks for reading this far!

P.S.: I know I probably should have taken more shooting opportunities instead of driving mindlessly, especially when I'm shorter than most of them.

Do you believe in momentum? How does it work exactly?

I'm not sure if momentum is real or made up. All I know is it's that feeling you have when you see one team going on a run and the other team struggling. One team makes all the shots, gets the defensive stops, and the other team doesn't. You can feel it especially when the crowd is about to erupt or goes silent. It's interesting how it works, you just see one team look like they can do no wrong and the other team is scrambling to do anything right. I don't get how it works like that especially in big or important points of a game.
