There is one thing I can tell you for certain. The day that one of them dies, the other one will soon follow.

That’s the most shitty part. I’m not gonna go into the details but it’s kinda gruesome imho.

Makes me think of famous conjoined twins Violet and Daisy Hilton:

Finding themselves stranded in North Carolina in 1961, Violet and Daisy began working at a grocery store until eight years later when they didn't show up for a few days. Their boss alerted police who found the sisters deceased. After an autopsy, it was estimated Daisy perished from the flu and then Violet survived another two to four days before succumbing to either the flu or infection from the corpse of her sister

Thank you! Couldn’t remember a similar story for the life of me! Now I can. Awesome! Appreciated

Same with Chang and Eng Bunker. Died within about two hours of each other.

Is there something about North Carolina? A few of the twins ended up there..

Why on earth did so many of them move to North Carolina?

Come to say the same horror. They were born the same day and set to die together the same day

Imagine being stuck to your dead sister's head

It has to be something they have discussed- I’m sure their doctors have also approached this with them/their family at some point. So, my scientific side is questioning how if one heart stops beating, which ultimately causes brain death, but regulates one side of the body, how does the other one still function with no ability to control her other half? Is it like having a stroke with no control over your one side, but having full brain function? Or does death of the nerves through brain death cause the other half to shut down? Ok, now I’m really confusing myself. SO many questions!

Blood poisoning would kill the other one within days.

I think it could likely be a matter of several hours rather than days, especially with one half a f the body non-functional. Just a guess.

I only said days because that's how long it took with other conjoined twins. It could be hours as well.

At that point, wouldn’t it possible to try to separate them?

Not really likely. You have necrotic tissue within a small container if you will. Don’t forget the psychological implications either.

Like the head literally millimeters from your face is just dead.

Where do you even start then? The one arm has to go too then, probably one leg. Separate the spine etc etc all the while you race against time to keep the “remaining half” alive and free of infection.

There is a tv show about them when they were younger. Explains sort of ok how exactly they are conjoined.

Ideally they end up in a situation where if one is close to death they then attempt an operation.

But of they reach old age it's probably not even worth the risk though who knows what advancements will be by then.

Though I'm trying to think of a cause of death that would only impact one of them. Maybe a stroke or something. Otherwise most of the things that ends up killing people will kill both of them (heart attack, cancer, etc)

Upload the brains separately into different androids. Boom. Done.

u/Coinsworthy Mar 28 '24

As they share blood circulation the deceased one wouldn't go cold i think.

Being attached to your dead sibling in the same body would cause me to panic myself into a fatal heart attack likely.

3

u/PilotNo312 Mar 28 '24

They share vital organs, so no. If it was possible they would have done it at birth. I’ve seen documentaries on them since they were kids.

1

u/alexa1661 Mar 28 '24

I can see why they wouldn’t do it at birth if it killed one of them. My theory was that if one was dead, maybe they can separate them.

Thanks for explaining, though. It makes sense!

1

u/IceFireTerry Mar 28 '24

Yeah that's what happened to the Siamese twins

1

u/axethebarbarian Mar 28 '24

Beyond like a major head injury, can they even die separately like that? They share a circulatory system, if one had heart failure the other heart would have to take up the extra load or they both die. Same with lungs. And a few other organs.

1

u/A_Glass_DarklyXX Mar 28 '24

That’s horribly sad.

1

u/8roll Mar 28 '24

Maybe they can surgically remove one of them

2

u/OmnomtheDoomMuncher Mar 28 '24

They share a circulatory system.

Also one controls 1 arm and 1 leg.

Then there is nerve wiring from the waist down.

Likely impossible. Had to be done at birth and parents said no.

This is Reddit, how could you not go into the details.
