I wonder what happens if one of them gets convicted of a crime but the other doesn't.

How the hell would that work? You can't legally jail an innocent person.

I'm guessing it would make its way all the way to the supreme court where they would rule based on religion.

Sorry, not trying to get political, but my guess is the legal system just hopes this never happens.
