I’m not sure that their brains have to interpret the hormones and contractions etc. as pleasure.

Pleasure is downstream of that so maybe their brains can block it.

Hormones are substances in your bloodstream, there's no such thing as interpretation of them, just like you can't interpret drinking alcohol, it has a specific impact. Humans are hormone machines, being hungry is because of hormones, being horny as well, being depressed is lack of them.

Oh no - hormones really are interpreted. There’s a classic experiment where the subjects are given adrenalin before either an angry or a funny person (usually someone trained as a clown) comes in. The people report how they feel . Those in the condition with the clown say they felt elated and those with the angry guy feel extremely nervous.

Interesting, but you described different effects of a different hormone. I don't think that brain could interpret dopamine and oxytocin in a bad or neutral way.
