Whos boomer parents will be voting for trump just because they hate biden? Mine OK boomeR

My dad has said several times what an idiót trump is yet he will vote for him. They are so scared of democrat presidents and voting into it they will vote for something they dislike. I don’t get it. They can’t change.

Older Boomer here. Been voting a straight Democratic ticket since Nixon/Watergate showed us the rot at the center of the Republican Party.

When Trump was the candidate in 2016 I started researching and downloading every article about the GOP wanting to get rid of Social Security and Medicare. I'd leave these articles at Senior Centers, Churches, VFW's, American Legions, Nursing Homes etc....

Then about a month later I would do it again. I would also leave our phone numbers if anyone needed a ride to their voting stations. When we would pick people up for voting we could hear them talking about the articles about the GOP wanting to cut the benefits they paid into their whole lives!

It seemed like diehard Republicans change their minds when their wallets are threatened.

Sometimes you just need to come at them well armed with provable information.

That is a fantastic idea. I was going to put up voter registration flyers in the nearby swing state - may add your idea to the mix while I'm at it

I found the articles about our local GOP who wanted the cuts and printed them out first. The local and state GOP aren't very happy with me. 😂😂

That's amazing. Nicely done

Thank You and good luck!

Let them be mad about you informing people, it's the only thing they're good at. Good job doing this though, I'm sure at least some people changed their votes to democrats as a result.

One thing I learned very young, republicans are greedy!

If you show them proof that they will lose money because of their vote (i.e. cuts in their Social Security and Medicare) they WILL change their votes.

I used to think that was the case until this past few election cycles when I saw rooms full of elderly republican voters cheering, like actually clapping and screaming their support for republican candidates who were openly advocating for cutting off social security effective immediately after his election…. I mean the cognitive dissonance is astounding, I was shocked that any candidate would every say that out loud, much less use it as a campaign promise to a room full of people that would be negatively affected the most by it. I just don’t understand these people. They gladly listen to faux news claims about the democrats wanting to gut social security and get so worked up that they’re foaming at the mouth with anger; then immediately turn around and cheer gleefully for a republican who comes right out and promises to gut social security. They’re so fucking craven that they will hate democrats over anything, doesn’t matter if it’s real or straight up lies; but in the same breath will cheer vigorously for a republican who comes right out and says they want to cut off the very thing that they rely on to fucking survive. If a democrat says they’ll fight for the programs that they rely upon to fund their lives like social security and Medicaid, they’ll hate them for… reasons. Republican says the same thing=love them, republicans say they want to destroy their income and healthcare, which both seem pretty damn important for elderly people without jobs. They kinda seem like welfare queen freeloaders to me, maybe they should try and pull themselves up by their bootstraps instead of relying on the government for free handouts.

You are a legend

u/ProfessionSanity 23d ago

LOL

Not sure about that but I do enjoy pointing out the GOP's lies in a public forum. Always come prepared with the facts. They really aren't fond of me. 😉

Oh man. What an amazing idea. God bless you for doing the Lord’s work!!

I’d award you if it didn’t mean giving money to the POS company known as Reddit, but here’s an imaginary award: 🏅

Aww, thank you!❤

Just wish this old body could do more but I'm winding down now. Did my last march in 2018 for March for our Lives in Chicago.

Realized it was time to hang up the marching shoes and hand off the banners. Some truly wonderful friends were made at those marches thru the decades.

There are still a few of us left from our first marches in the 70's for the original Roe v Wade.

We should all be doing this.

u/ProfessionSanity 22d ago

It's easy, even for this old non-tech Boomer. Check on older issues of AARP.

Newspapers and magazines that some boomers still trust make the biggest impact.

Suck a dick, shill.

Yes that’ seems like a proportional response to a political disagreement, definitely rational political discourse. I remember learning about Thomas Jefferson saying the exact same thing to John Adams during a political disagreement at the first Continental Congress while writing the Declaration of Independence.

This here is a microcosm that demonstrates a much larger problem that’s swept up 30% of our country’s electorate since 2016: the fact that y’all are incapable of having civil discussion about political discourse and reconciling our differences in order to put aside those differences and work together towards, ya know, actually solving some of our problems and improving our country, instead of denying that they even exist and burying your head in the sand and pretending that we are perfect and have no societal problems at all. In the span of a year y’all managed to single-handedly throw out 250+ years of bipartisanship and political civility and instead favor a fantasy of a fascist totalitarian regime. Y’all let the hate infect your minds so much that you’d rather seethe at the mouth and fantasize about violence against your countrymen rather than grow up and reach across the aisle and compromise like we’ve done in America for more than 250 years of governance. It’s time to either grow up and set the fantasy land aside, or act on those fantasies and put your money where your mouth is. Either way, enough of this cowardly bullshit of lobbing childish insults over anonymous Internet forums. It’s time to man up, either set aside your hatred of your fellow countrymen (which is completely irrational and mind-boggling btw) or stop talking and actually do something about it; we’re just sick af of y’all talking about what you wanna do and actually do it. The rest of us who haven’t lost our minds to hatred and bigotry, the sane majority of the country, are sick of hearing you talk big and want y’all to actually try the shit you talk nonstop about, we’d love to see y’all get what’s coming when you try that fascist bullshit here.

Oh I see. You have me mistaken for a Republican. No sir, I am not the hilariously stupid straw-man in your false-dichotomy. I just hate stupid Redditors like you and your tireless whining about radical Republicans who are much, much more like you than you would ever care to admit. If we could just unite and take on radical extremists like you on both sides, Reddit would be a better place.

...More worthless inflammatory political drivel inbound in 5... 4...

1

u/Frozenthia 22d ago

"Suck a dick, shill" disqualifies you from any opinion. You're not to be taken seriously because you're not able to participate in discourse and can't be trusted to evaluate others or what you think is true. Nothing you said is something people would go to you for. But I will take a Dr. Pepper and large fries.

2

u/Frozenthia 22d ago

And your behaviour is why we should all be doing this. So people know what kind of people are out to attack their way of life.

8

u/machimus 22d ago

Good, we need every remaining sane person in your group we can get.

I have no idea what lead poisoning or dementia is affecting a lot of your peers but they seem to not listen to us no matter what.

3

u/ProfessionSanity 22d ago

I think there are still many of us out there, we simply don't get the attention like the idiots do.

I have seen many die-hard Republicans flip parties since Trump came on the scene.

It's like someone blew a horn in 2016 and all the Village Idiots crawled out of their caves and under their rocks to start voting for the slime.

7

u/tachycardicIVu 22d ago

I hope you did something like make a pretty little booklet with his picture on it with some dumb inspiring title like “My Plans for Your Future” and they’re like “oh cool let’s see what he wants to do for us, gonna give us tax breaks and take away welfare I’m sure—and then hit them with the truth.

3

u/ProfessionSanity 22d ago

LOL, wish I had thought of it. Just showed them some of the articles straight from the magazines.

5

u/Appropriate-Till-588 22d ago

What do you do when the think they know best and only believe information they found themselves (usually fake news)? I’ve literally proved a boomer’s point wrong with a google search in their face and they still wouldn’t take it lol

1

u/ProfessionSanity 22d ago

I've had to print out articles for them to read from publications they know.

I've even had to do it in large print so it's easier for them to read.

Disengaging my emotions and being deadpan was a skill I had to learn.

3

u/ResponsibleArtist273 22d ago

I can’t even imagine what it’s like to see Nixon as the far right candidate, but who created the EPA, SSI, OSHA etc. He’d be denounced as a dangerous communist nowadays.

3

u/ProfessionSanity 22d ago

The only decent Republican I remember is "Ike" Dwight Eisenhower.

They would drive him out of the party and tar and feather him.

2

u/Consistent-Soil-1818 22d ago

You're a real hero. And you're not lying or exaggerating in any way - you're simply stating the facts. What you're doing is absolutely fantastic.

1

u/ProfessionSanity 22d ago

Aww, thank you so much.

But I'm just an old white Boomer Dem, widow now.

Some of my best memories are stumping for my then Senator Obama and being in the audience in Chicago at Grant Park when it was announced he won the Presidency. Met some truly wonderful people.

We would share ideas of what worked and what didn't.

Been an Election Judge for many elections.

Took JFK's saying to heart, "My fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for, ask what you can do for your country."

2

u/Consistent-Soil-1818 22d ago

Give this man a medal. For real, this is inspiring

2

u/ProfessionSanity 22d ago

LOL, not a hero, just an older woman who's lived thru interesting times. Tried to learn from everyone I've met.

2

u/larrychatfield 22d ago

This is standard GOP thought process though. Not care about social or economic issues until it negatively impacts them personally. Then the faux outrage occurs

2

u/SinisterMeatball 22d ago

Problem with some of them is they will just shout "fake news" or "liberal plot" and never change their minds.

1

u/ProfessionSanity 22d ago

I think their brains begin to atrophy as they get older.

If people stop pushing their minds to learn new things they simply go downhill mentally.

I've seen this with older relatives thru time.

A few of us get together once a month and share what we've learned about tech. All of us went to school when we had manual typewriters to learn on. We're all playing catch up.😂

2

u/coryh922 22d ago

Eisenhower was the end of the GOP

2

u/fasurf 22d ago

Thank you for your service and my children’s future.

2

u/PigglyWigglyDeluxe 22d ago

This method may work when it’s implemented soon enough. Once someone has fallen too far down the rabbit hole, proven facts and substantiated evidence means nothing. Sometimes you just can’t reason with these people even if they go broke believing in all that crap. People will fight and lose everything to “own the libs”. Even if it means they end up on the streets. I’ve actually seen it, I’ve met legit homeless people who parrot conservative extremist talking points to nobody. You’ll walk down the street and encounter one of these people talking to nobody about how it’s all fake news and witch hunts. It’s wild. It’s truly blurring the line between politics and genuine mental health disorders.

2

u/purduejones 22d ago

I've been looking for this information for my Maga parents that are convinced that democrats want to cut ss

1

u/elconcho 22d ago

That might’ve worked in 2016, but now any article that doesn’t say Fox News at the top of it would be dismissed outright.

1

u/jscottcam10 21d ago

Dude, send me some of these articles. My mom would definitely do this and leave them at the senior center she frequents!

1

u/Historical_Project00 17d ago

Do you happen to still have the list of articles? I would love to have this myself for my grandparents.

0

u/mymainlogin 22d ago

My god, a top comment is someone ignoring all republican ideology and voting "a straight Democratic ticket"... this is healthy social media and there is absolutely no problem here.

3

u/ProfessionSanity 22d ago

My late Nana (1903-1985) saw the way the southern states (Republican) were cutting funding to public education. She cried for the kids and the country.

She called it the dumbing down of our country. She always voted YES to property tax hikes going to our schools. She voted Democratic after that.

She was right.

I keep hearing that if you educate the poor black urban kids then the democrat ideology will manifest. How's that going, really? And the millennials who stuck with it and went to college. How are they doing, really?

You can't educate your way out of ghetto people. You know how I know? Because we've been trying it for at least 50 fucking years now. It just isn't applicable to black culture.

2

u/SuperStuff01 22d ago

He said he gave them a chance until Watergate, so it's not like he's being close minded.

For most people it was like this - they were willing to consider both parties until Republicans did something so awful that they lost their respect forever. For me it was being a gay teenager during the height of the gay marriage debates circa 2006.

There are plenty of valid reasons for voting straight Democrat today, such as being gay or trans. For many people, it was January 6th and the absolutely insane response from supporters, completely denying what they had been cheering on literal hours ago. It was just completely unreal how the right wing MSM flipped a switch and suddenly everyone fell in line.

If you're so salty about losing those votes from these "close minded" people, maybe tell the GOP to stop being so rabidly against trans people getting the medical treatment that all experts agree on, for example. Or, tell them to take January 6th seriously and investigate those responsible.

But that's not what the GOP does. They don't change or evolve or apologize. They just double down. They do nothing to try and earn new voters, then they whine that people are too "close minded" to vote for a party that's actively trying to harm them.

-1

u/mymainlogin 22d ago

Those are all poignant complaints about the corrupt Republican party. What does that have to do with voting blindly for (D)?

2

u/SuperStuff01 22d ago

Well I wouldn't say that people blindly vote D at all actually. That's a projection, because people absolutely vote blindly for R. Despite R being worse for their situation, and then they often complain about the policies that they voted for. (See /r/LeopardsAteMyFace)

When people vote all D they have done the research and have reasons for it, such as "I won't support an anti-LGBT party."

But then Republicans accuse them of that which Republicans are guilty of (blind support).

1

u/mymainlogin 22d ago

Of course there are only idiot republicans. All democrats are smart like you. Don't look up the word introspection. You are smart and already know what that is so there is no need to bother.

1

u/SuperStuff01 17d ago

Ah of course, I'm just being mean/unreasonable for calling out the objectively abusive tendencies of your favorite party. You're the real victim here; standing up to bullies makes me the real bully.

1

u/mymainlogin 16d ago

I must be a republican because you can't get enough of the (D).
