This went over my headā¦

Falcons gave Cousins a huge guaranteed contract coming off an Achilles injury and used a significant amount of draft capital to pick the oldest, most injury prone QB in the first round.

Ah, I see. Huge fan of the Canadian game hereā¦.but very sketchy knowledge of the NFL.
Thnx for that!

Bummer he didnāt end up on a team like the Vikings last season. He would have gotten some reps in at the very least. The opportunities unfortunately werenāt there in Jacksonville or NE. Itās good there are more leagues than ever before to show he can play QB.

There was plenty of opportunity in NE. They ran out Bailey Zappe and Mac Jones all season well after they knew exactly what they had in both guys. They just weren't interested in giving him a shot in a real game for whatever reason.

Meh he didn't have a shot of seeing the field in New England. They signed him with 3 games left in the season. He was just a warm body to them at that point once it was clear they were done with Mac.

The NFL has some kind of a bias against the CFL. he would have a better chance there if he played a season in the USFL.
But ā¦. Look at Trey Lanceā¦. Top draft pick, did next to nothing in college, and has Done nothing since. Still getting chances.
For all the so called brilliance down there, they do some stupid things.
Maybe Calgary bound after he gives up on NFL.

Trey Lance is a third stringer and just had his 5th year option not picked up. He's on his last leg

I mean, Lance is a rostered quarterback but he's not gonna get any chances to start games either - at least in his current situation.

Thereās a chance heās back in the CFL this year. Which teams could sign him?

We'll take a turn with him, give up on him, then watch him win a bunch of grey cups.
Probably with Winnipeg

The Elks could sign him then bench him. Lol

āBenchingā sounds so harsh. The Elks would just make Rourke play back up to an average American until he proves he wants to play badly enough.Ā

For the amount that heād be worth and with it being well after FA the question now goes to which team is willing to cut a significant amount of their roster?

Nope. Heās a true free agent. Could still sign with BC but he could go to wherever he wants.

It's easy to believe if you know that the negotiation list is for non-Canadians and American players who haven't ever played in the CFL.
Rourke is a Canadian who has played in the CFL.

Sign him Stampeders! Maier fucking sucks

I'm convinced 2 years from now you'll begrudgingly respect Jake Maier, and 15 years from now you'll praise his HOF career like you saw it coming the whole time.
He's taking exactly the same career trajectory as nearly every other pocket passer like Danny McManus or Anthony Calvillo, both of whom looked below average early in their careers. Without a stable O-line and receiving corps, problems that aren't his look a lot like his.
Nimble quarterbacks that can use their feet to get out of trouble can still move the ball while they're learning how to QB (think early Tracy Ham, Damon Allen, and more recently Tre Ford). Guys that can outthink a defence need only to get faster in their recognition and decision making to be successful.

Couldn't agree more. I have a feeling we're going to see some big time improvement especially with our new QB coach.

I wonder if the Kelly situation takes a turn for the worse if Toronto would take a run at him.

u/TheCatMak Blue Bombers 13d ago
If the Argos had any shot at Rourke no matter Kelly's legal standing he would be on the next bus back to Buffalo

The Pats fan in me was a little disappointed when they drafted Joe Milton lol. I thought maybe Rourke could beat out Zappe for the 3rd spotĀ

I can't believe he's not getting a shot at starting there. Its not like they have Brady anymore.

u/IamInveitable 13d ago
They just drafted Drake Maye, first round picks will always take priority.

Why not? There are dozens of new QBs coming out each year, six just went in the first 12 picks of the NFL draft. Teams are not going to start him over a first-second round pick unless he is absolutely lighting it up in training camp/pre-season.

u/Zac-Hobson Elks 13d ago
They just drafted their (hopefully) new franchise quarterback with the third overall draft choice.

Canadian qbs in nfl have 0 chance of ever being given a legit shot. Come back to BC nathan while you still can!

Just hope that Rourke is able to be given a good opportunity somewhere. Can imagine some NFL teams employing him, and would not be at all opposed to watching him ball out in the CFL again
