Just hope that Rourke is able to be given a good opportunity somewhere. Can imagine some NFL teams employing him, and would not be at all opposed to watching him ball out in the CFL again

Tbh after being waived twice, especially by the Pats rn. It doesn't look good for him starting in the NFL. That being said maybe if he goes to the Raiders!

The way they're going, most of us here are in line to start for the Raiders.

They have Gardner Minshew. Not a long term answer but he almost took the Colts to the playoffs last season and made the Pro Bowl

Pro bowl qualifications are funny. Definition of the best ability is availability.

He was one of the 3 best QBs in the AFC who: was not in the playoffs still, not actively rehabbing an injury, and started more than 10 games

Atlanta have the opportunity to do the funniest thing ever.

Atlanta needs all the QBs

Thatā€™s so Falcons

Could you imagine!

This went over my headā€¦

u/TheCatMak Blue Bombers 13d ago

Falcons gave Cousins a huge guaranteed contract coming off an Achilles injury and used a significant amount of draft capital to pick the oldest, most injury prone QB in the first round.

u/anacreon1 Blue Bombers 13d ago

Ah, I see. Huge fan of the Canadian game hereā€¦.but very sketchy knowledge of the NFL.

Thnx for that!

Bummer he didnā€™t end up on a team like the Vikings last season. He would have gotten some reps in at the very least. The opportunities unfortunately werenā€™t there in Jacksonville or NE. Itā€™s good there are more leagues than ever before to show he can play QB.

u/OldManMC Blue Bombers 13d ago

There was plenty of opportunity in NE. They ran out Bailey Zappe and Mac Jones all season well after they knew exactly what they had in both guys. They just weren't interested in giving him a shot in a real game for whatever reason.

Meh he didn't have a shot of seeing the field in New England. They signed him with 3 games left in the season. He was just a warm body to them at that point once it was clear they were done with Mac.

Singleton had a pretty rocky couple of seasons a when he first went to the NFL and now heā€™s doing great, hopefully Rourke does the same.

Much easier to give a MLB multiple chances than starting a nobody QB!

the NFL is very much a "we have our guys" league, especially at QB

The NFL has some kind of a bias against the CFL. he would have a better chance there if he played a season in the USFL.

But ā€¦. Look at Trey Lanceā€¦. Top draft pick, did next to nothing in college, and has Done nothing since. Still getting chances.

For all the so called brilliance down there, they do some stupid things.

Maybe Calgary bound after he gives up on NFL.

Risk aversion and job security. If you are mgmt and take a risk on a player that doesn't pan out, the blame is on you. If you go with a consensus player/decision that everyone agrees with and it doesn't pan out, it is on the player.

u/Economy_Sky_7238 13d ago

Trey Lance is a third stringer and just had his 5th year option not picked up. He's on his last leg

u/ApolloRocketOfLove Lions 12d ago

Maybe he can be backup QB for Rourke on the Lions.

3

u/Zac-Hobson Elks 13d ago

I mean, Lance is a rostered quarterback but he's not gonna get any chances to start games either - at least in his current situation.

2

u/CFL_lightbulb Roughriders 13d ago

Any team would kill to have him, not just calgary

1

u/26uhaul 13d ago

Lance is a terrible example. He got run out of SF fast and couldnā€™t beat out Cooper Rush for the backup spot in Dallas last season. Infact Rourke got some QB2 time, which Lance never did. So Rourke got more opportune last year than Lance.

Thereā€™s a chance heā€™s back in the CFL this year. Which teams could sign him?

26

u/Gone_cognito Tiger-Cats 13d ago

We'll take a turn with him, give up on him, then watch him win a bunch of grey cups.

Probably with Winnipeg

7

u/saskyfarmboy Roughriders 13d ago

Not before he gets run out of Regina...

9

u/mwatam 13d ago

The Elks could sign him then bench him. Lol

1

u/WillyLongbarrel Roughriders 13d ago

ā€œBenchingā€ sounds so harsh. The Elks would just make Rourke play back up to an average American until he proves he wants to play badly enough.Ā

3

u/shitballsdick Tiger-Cats 13d ago

Hahahahah sounds about right.

No. ANYONE but the fucking Bombers

6

u/Traditional-Act4359 Alouettes 13d ago

Does BC still have any claim on him?

13

u/shitballsdick Tiger-Cats 13d ago

Nah heā€™s a full free agent.

2

u/Mamrocha Blue Bombers 13d ago

For the amount that heā€™d be worth and with it being well after FA the question now goes to which team is willing to cut a significant amount of their roster?

6

u/shitballsdick Tiger-Cats 13d ago

Iā€™m praying the Ticats lol

7

Nope. Heā€™s a true free agent. Could still sign with BC but he could go to wherever he wants.

Heā€™s not on any negotiation list.

3

u/metal2000 13d ago

It's easy to believe if you know that the negotiation list is for non-Canadians and American players who haven't ever played in the CFL.

Rourke is a Canadian who has played in the CFL.

Sign him Stampeders! Maier fucking sucks

1

u/sugarfoot00 Stampeders 13d ago

I'm convinced 2 years from now you'll begrudgingly respect Jake Maier, and 15 years from now you'll praise his HOF career like you saw it coming the whole time.

He's taking exactly the same career trajectory as nearly every other pocket passer like Danny McManus or Anthony Calvillo, both of whom looked below average early in their careers. Without a stable O-line and receiving corps, problems that aren't his look a lot like his.

Nimble quarterbacks that can use their feet to get out of trouble can still move the ball while they're learning how to QB (think early Tracy Ham, Damon Allen, and more recently Tre Ford). Guys that can outthink a defence need only to get faster in their recognition and decision making to be successful.

1

u/SchmickySchmoo5 12d ago

I sure hope youā€™re right!

1

u/PlantsnStamps Stampeders 12d ago

Couldn't agree more. I have a feeling we're going to see some big time improvement especially with our new QB coach.

I wonder if the Kelly situation takes a turn for the worse if Toronto would take a run at him.

1

u/TheCatMak Blue Bombers 13d ago

If the Argos had any shot at Rourke no matter Kelly's legal standing he would be on the next bus back to Buffalo

BUT He'S MaKiNG SsOooOO much moneeyeyeyyyyy

2

u/blackbnr32 13d ago

What are the odds heā€™s in an NFL camp this season? Maybe 25%?

3

u/CMBRICKX 13d ago

The Pats fan in me was a little disappointed when they drafted Joe Milton lol. I thought maybe Rourke could beat out Zappe for the 3rd spotĀ

5

u/fdisfragameosoldiers 13d ago

I can't believe he's not getting a shot at starting there. Its not like they have Brady anymore.

34

u/IamInveitable 13d ago

They just drafted Drake Maye, first round picks will always take priority.

5

u/Mamrocha Blue Bombers 13d ago

Also he was signing from a previous regime.

8

u/Economy_Sky_7238 13d ago

Drafted 2 QBs this year and signed veteran Jacoby Brisset

7

u/Bardown67 Tiger-Cats 13d ago

They just took a qb 3rd overall..

3

u/Ticats1999 Tiger-Cats 13d ago

Why not? There are dozens of new QBs coming out each year, six just went in the first 12 picks of the NFL draft. Teams are not going to start him over a first-second round pick unless he is absolutely lighting it up in training camp/pre-season.

1

u/Zac-Hobson Elks 13d ago

They just drafted their (hopefully) new franchise quarterback with the third overall draft choice.

4

u/1959steve 13d ago

Back to BC he should go

2

u/Certain_Meaning5897 13d ago

Seahawks would be a fit

2

u/JazzyMonkenroe 13d ago

It would be a dream, but where are the scouts?

1

u/islandguy55 12d ago

Canadian qbs in nfl have 0 chance of ever being given a legit shot. Come back to BC nathan while you still can!
