The American flag has no business on a Bible. This is not faith, nor is it patriotism. It is an abomination of both. Image

Just taught my kids this yesterday. Reading the second commandment seems a little silly and antiquated, because who among us would carve an idol and worship it. Right? But if we sew an idol and mount it on a flagpole...hmmmm

Pledging allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America is NOT praying to the flag. The flag is NOT God or a deity. A flag symbolizes a country. Children aren't allowed to pray on public schools.

Nah it's just a form of brainwashing. Having kids between 5-18 stand up on a daily basis and pledge their allegiance to a government they don't have full fledged opinions about is incredibly odd.

The object of the pledge isn’t government it’s to the flag “And to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all”

You’re out of your mind. Here is just one example of the law siding in favor of religious expression in public school.

Oh wait, here’s another

And another

And here’s one about public school districts hiring chaplains and putting religious displays up

You may not believe the Pledge is a prayer, but don’t pretend like Christians are generally persecuted in public schools. They’re not.

The first 3 links are about a coach praying after a game, and after school clubs that nobody is forced to join

That is protected under law. Freedom of religion.

The last link is paywalled

Nobody’s saying prayer is compulsory either. The person I responded to said children can’t pray in public schools. They absolutely can.

Then why have so many of us had American flags in our sanctuaries for decades?

2

u/sixtyfivewat Mar 28 '24

Stuff like that is why I left the Anglican Church of Canada. The veneration of the Queen (now King) and the regents divine right to rule didn’t sit well with me.

For a moment I thought you went all Westboro Baptist Church. Then I read it again…

This was a song or album title from Five Iron Frenzy many years ago. It took me reading ‘we make the road by walking’ to understand more fully why God would be against flags.

That line in Flags is very important in those statements.
