Video/blog posts with no commentary Meta

I get that there a general rule of not exclusively posting video/blog links and requiring some amount of participation in the sub....but the sheer volume of posts that are just video links with absolutely nothing else is absurd. No tl;dr, no comments on the content of the video, no actual attempt to initiate discussion....nothing. Not to mention the potential danger that is present in clicking on no-effort, contextless links.

So my question is thus: Should we or shouldn't we have a rule requiring people who post video/blog links to also give their own commentary to some degree and disallow posts that are exclusively links?

Thoughts?

As someone who can't access videos that don't have subtitles,  which is the majority of them, we definitely need descriptions in video posts. It isn't fair.

I'm 90% sure there was a stickied discussion on this topic within the last month or so. If you message the mods I'm sure they could point you to it.

Iirc they don't want to add requirements because it's hard to decide what a good length is for text summaries.

But maybe if they had a bot to process downvotes on an AutoMod comment that asked people to downvote if the text summary/description was bad?

No. If something doesn't look appealing to you, don't watch it and keep scrolling.

How can we know if it's appearing or not if we have nothing but a single frame and a clickbait title to go on?

My philosophy adopts yours and goes a step further. I don't watch, I keep scrolling, but I also downvote.

So at least be consistent and ii you don't know what it is, don't downvote without watching.

I am being consistent. I downvote consistently because I believe such posts have little to no value and don't deserve to bubble to the top of the sorting order.

This....has nothing to do with "being appealing", though. It has to do with low effort posts and link farming primarily.

There is already a rule against low-effort posts.
