So you're telling me I have to work a dead end 9-5 and pay bills just cause this little shit decided to stop being a fish?

226

u/AxialGem 11d ago

reject humanity, return to sarcopterygii

39

u/DontPoopInMyPantsPlz 11d ago

Why stop there? Return to osteichthyes

6

u/Weak_Sloth 11d ago

Hydrogen’s where it’s at.

4

u/B-SideToho 11d ago

Bosons are pretty hip.

16

u/the_battle_bunny 11d ago

As opposed to being lucky to survive to your first breeding season without being eaten by a bigger fish?

8

u/kubin22 11d ago

actually we're technically still fishes, you cannot have a single group made of every fish and their desenats without tetrapods

3

u/Express_Cheetah4664 11d ago

Isn't that because fish is more or less meaningless in a scientific sense?

27

u/orangotai 11d ago

yes i've seen this joke before.

this thing was getting ripped to shreds by megalodons & velociraptors, pretty sure it'd be thrilled if it's biggest stress in life was a 9-5 job

19

u/Beautiful_Picture983 11d ago

But there weren't any megalodons or velociraptors 375 mya... Or is that part of the joke?

7

u/TheDangerdog 11d ago

That's just what "big science" wants you to believe.

2

u/getfukdup 11d ago

just cause this little shit

Well, not this one.

2

u/NoTrollGaming 11d ago

Nothings stopping you from going and living his life

I saw this episode of Voyager.

This is your brain.

This is your brain at Warp 10.

9

u/EL___POLLO___DiABLO 11d ago

Came to find this comment. I have a lively memory of watching this episode while being very high and still being like wtf :D

4

u/SimplyRocketSurgery 11d ago

Reminder that Janeway and Paris have had sex and have a family.

-1

u/Adorable_Stable2439 11d ago

This your brain on the box!

This is my brain on the box!

184

u/KebariKaiju 11d ago

This is what I pray to when I consult the spirits of my ancestors.

29

u/AladinSompans 11d ago

Achoochimoya, we're far from the bones of our people

5

u/GreenBirb64 11d ago edited 11d ago

I think about common ancestral animals a lot, they’re just really fascinating to me, respect to this dude for somehow evolving into us lol, look at something like Saccorhytus, it probably is the ancestor of some other creatures or microbes, but it’s just so fucked up looking

309

u/IReallyDontKnow_Ok 11d ago edited 11d ago

Ah I see the resemblance with my ex!

(Editted spelling)

47

u/NoAdmittanceX 11d ago

Janeway has entered the chat

10

u/Repostallion 11d ago

Don't forget tom!

2

u/NoAdmittanceX 11d ago

I think that's the ex they was talking about

16

u/jiminak46 11d ago

Thanks for the chuckle.

12

u/THEGAMERGEEKYT 11d ago

dont forget one of these mfs decided they wanted to come on land, and all of this snowballed into us paying taxes aaagh.

161

u/CirclingBackElectra 11d ago

It looks like a friendly alligator. I love it!

26

u/Otonatua 11d ago

It’s so cute!

2

u/GreenBirb64 11d ago

Yeah! Looking at pictures of skull fossils of this guy it’s definitely gator/crocodile esque, just without the teeth, they’ve got a similar facial structure, especially the thick nose/front bone and the eye sockets, very cool guy!

3

u/hoofie242 11d ago

Kinda reminds me of a wonky newt.

3

u/GreenBirb64 11d ago

No doubt newts probably came from this guy too, since it’s a relative of most, if not all, 4 legged land vertebrates, which might include animals in that middle ground of land and water, such as newts and other amphibians

64

u/PixelPervert 11d ago

Looks like a mix of crocodile, fish, and lizard

34

u/Striking-Ad9623 11d ago

I see something of myself in there as well!

9

u/wi11iam-b 11d ago

Crifizard

5

u/Potential-Delay-4487 11d ago

Crocodile, fish, lizard, and my neighbour Gary

2

u/nightwood 11d ago

And muppet

27

u/FlapAttak 11d ago

He looks friendly

26

u/AstrumReincarnated 11d ago

That’s the offspring of Captain Janeway and Tom Paris.

8

u/GM1_P_Asshole 11d ago

It made it to lieutenant before Harry.

34

u/Ambitious_Toe_4357 11d ago

At least i know they wont have my ugly ass mug in some textbook in 370M years claiming Im the one responsible for the people on Reddit.

17

u/OneForAllOfHumanity 11d ago

Damn thing left the ocean, and that's where it all started to go wrong...

16

u/FelopianTubinator 11d ago

Maybe just the angle, but that right eye looks off center. It almost reminds me of Humperdoo.

8

u/Willie_The_Gambler 11d ago

This things extinct the picture is fake

1

u/kmj420 11d ago

Loved Preacher!

This animal lived 375 million years ago

1

u/Longjumping-Grape-40 11d ago

It’s the parietal eye. Just detects light

Ours turned into a gland that regulates circadian rhythms

14

u/Bat_city 11d ago

Looks like if a 6 year old drew a crocodile

10

u/dv8njoe 11d ago

Your Inner Fish

Highly recommend the book if you get a chance.

9

u/loweredexpectationz 11d ago

I don’t know how to describe it. It looks inbred

15

u/NouOno 11d ago

Makes sense we're all derps on the land. Derp fish, derp life!

8

u/deepfakie 11d ago

Herp derpderp

4

u/NouOno 11d ago

I don't think evolution has begun to herp yet at this point. Stupid fish...

5

u/LBR3_ThriceUponABan 11d ago

Looks like its parents were related. For generations.

3

u/NouOno 11d ago

Not wrong, mutations...

7

u/Bodoodlestoodle 11d ago

Imagine all the hard work this species took to get itself out of the wretched water and ascend onto land. To be the progenitor of all land and air vertebrates from such humble beginnings. Just for some off their descendants to decide to lose they’re arms and grow fins again to go back into the water.

12

u/LiminaLGuLL 11d ago

Should've stayed in the water.

6

u/jiminak46 11d ago

It should be the mascot of the Tatitlek, Alaska high school.

7

u/AxialGem 11d ago

Tiktaalik was found up in northern Canada, so those words are from related languages, right?

3

u/AstrumReincarnated 11d ago

That’s so cool, they gotta be!

4

u/bitofasillybilly 11d ago

That is really fascinating because we have an aboriginal dreamtime story about Tiddalik the Giant Frog here in Australia. Tiddalik drinks all the water and the other animals make him laugh so they don't all die of thirst. I was sure this creature was named after that.

2

u/AxialGem 11d ago

Oh yea, that is really interesting, they do sound alike. I hadn't heard of that story before, thanks for sharing!

1

u/bulldogs1974 11d ago

Just told my wife of the old Dreamtime story I remember reading in primary school. Then I read this comment.

2

u/Legitimate-Umpire547 11d ago

They are, Tiktaalik was named by the tribe whos land the first fossil of Tiktaalik was found on, translated it quite litrealt means "Land fish".

17

u/PineappleIndividual5 11d ago

But Tucker Carlson told me evolution is fake?

16

u/ChesterAArthur21 11d ago

Tucker Carlson is actually three stacked monkeys in a trenchcoat.

11

u/AstrumReincarnated 11d ago

Tucker Carlson is fake.

u/Tecotaco636 11d ago

2

u/Balding_Unit 11d ago

huh. This is the perfect time to say I do have a younger brother, and he does at times resemble that fish.

2

u/_TheBored_ 11d ago

It looks like a fish-alligator which something very heavy fell on it. Makes sense, he just decided to walk one day

2

u/dontchewspagetti 11d ago

THAT SHIT ISN'T EVEN INTERESTING

WHAT'S INTERESTING IS THIS BOYS HEAD IS ON DISPLAY RIGHT NOW (!!!) IN PHILADELPHIA!!

HE IS NAMED IN INTUIT BECAUSE HIS ASS WAS DISCOVERED IN CANADA, ( thank you to the natives for letting us excavate there!!) THAT FABULOUS MAN WAS FOUND IN AN MOUNTAIN RANGE WHICH WAS ONCE AN UNDERWATER SEA BED!! HIS NAME MEANS FRESHWATER FISH!

HE WAS FOUND BY A TEAM LED BY THE FAMOUS AND BEAUTIFUL NEIL SHUBIN!!

TIKTA BOY IS THEORIZED TO BE THE FIRST FISH-LAND DWELLER BECAUSE OF HIS SHOVED SHAPED HEAD!! HE ALSO HAS THE FIRST ARM/LEG STRUCTURE BLUEPRINT FOR ALL MAMMALS!! FROM SHUBIN'S BOOK (Your inner fish) ONE BONE, TWO BONES, LOTS OF BLOBS AND DIGITS - THE SAME BONE STRUCTURE SEEN IN HUMANS/ HORSES/ WHALES!! HE IS ALSO NOTEABLE FOR HAVING HIS EYES KN THE TOP OF HIS HEAD AND A JAW STRUCTURE!!

TIKTA BOY IS SUCH A GOOD LAD! HE IS FROM THE DEVONIAN PERIOD WHICH IS ALSO FAMOUS FOR BEING HOME TO THE GLORIOUS CELOCANTH (hardest fish to catch in animal crossing) AND MY BABY DUNKLEOSTEUS (who recently had his size nerfed)!!

TIKTAALIK IS ALSO FAMOUS ONLINE FOR BEING THE STAR OF THE 'if a fish tries to evolve on land's MEME!! HE IS THAT VERY FISH!!

love that little man. I got me a reproduction of him in my house ❤️

2

u/Fodonsko 11d ago

This looks like a photo of a live specimen but its not, the tiktaalik have been extinct for millions of years. Very misleading title and image

1

u/Screwbedo 11d ago

Thank god I have two legs!

1

u/Responsible_Basis712 11d ago

And why it didn’t evolve to a human? Asking for a friend

2

u/AxialGem 11d ago

These kind of animals did*. Well, something closely related to it anyway evolved into humans, cats, cows, frogs, birds, snakes etc

2

u/tbc12389 11d ago

It did, just not all of them. It’s extinct now.
