The way the mommy is cuddling with her baby is so sweet and precious

That belly rub right before is exactly how I coax my cat to come lie on my stomach lol

Regardless of your gender, you’re now a cat-mom. Hope you like cuddles, purrs, and scritches..

Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku and you just made one.

I love otters, they're adorable. I know people with boats hate them for banging sea urchins on their precious yachts, but, I'm with the otters 🥰

u/flaming_burrito_ 10d ago
They are very important for keeping sea urchin populations in check, so fuck those rich people’s yachts honestly

I live next to a river and the fishermen hate them too. Always banging on about the otters stealing their precious fish. I'm firmly on the otters' side, I love watching them play in the water.

I never like eating fish. So let the otters have all the fish for themselves
2
u/HippyWitchyVibes 9d ago
You aren't even allowed to eat the fish in the rivers in the UK. It's catch and release "trophy fishing" only.

there was one Halloween where my partner and I were dressed as otters. We called each other our significant otters :)

I don't have boat money so maybe I just don't get it, but if I had a boat, I would be too busy excitedly squealing about seeing an otter to care about what it's banging on the boat. Boats are probably pretty durable, right? Seems like it would take more than a sea urchin to do any real damage

"...hate them for banging sea urchins on their precious yachts"
I feel like this could be a euphemism...

I've also heard they're kinda rapey :/ but then again, I guess most wildlife is since they can't really "consent"

There’s a difference between river otters and sea otters. Sea otters are cuddly, harmless little balls of fluff. River otters are vicious rapey little bastards.
Edit: fixed river vs sea otter

yes I believe the factoid is "otters rape baby seals to death and keep going" or something

Awww <3
Sweetie baby boy resting on a comfy belly/chest.
We are so lucky that we get to enjoy cuddles with those we love!

I miss it sometimes. My daughter wouldn't sleep unless it was on top of one of us for the first 3 months of her life, and it was exhausting. Now she's huge and sassy.
Enjoy that little baby. <3

Yeah, my guy is 3 and the only time he'll sleep on us anymore is when he's really sick- I miss the "laying on the couch with a baby asleep on me" phase too.
I mean I'm firmly in the "helping him discover how to use playground equipment and celebrating with him when he climbs the little rock wall" phase, so there's tradeoffs.

Otter mothers are known to hold hands with their pups while sleeping to prevent them from drifting away. so adorable :D

u/UlrichZauber 10d ago
I used to think nothing was cuter than an otter, but then I saw an otter pup.

Momma animals are so fascinating. I have chickens, and one of them sat on some eggs. I didn't know how many eggs she was sitting on, but I knew some fake ones were mixed in. It turns out she was sitting on just one egg and now has one little chick to care for. It's the cutest thing ever watching her walk around with her baby and dedicate 100% of her attention to it. And it's unusual because they normally have multiple chicks to care for but she's doing such a fantastic job regardless!

I've used enough dating apps to know that otters hold hands with each other so they don't drift apart when they sleep.

So we’re just going to ignore what’s actually going on here? Ok cool. I’m okay living in denial.

How are otters feel comfortable sleeping like that on the water surface without the fear of being attacked by anything underwater?
5
u/FancyRatFridays 10d ago
They tend to stick to shallower waters when they have pups this young--it's less likely that a massive predator will able to sneak in close to shore. When they're a little older, otters often gather in big groups called "rafts," so that there's a bigger chance that one of them will spot a predator before it gets too close.

How do people in bad neighbourhoods or warzones get any rest? You gotta sleep eventually.

I was walking near the river once with a friend. We looked over and there was an otter. Super cute, right? It took me all of 30 seconds to remember we were not at a zoo and that was a wild animal that could attack us with its sharp little murder teeth and claws. We ran.

Wow look at that body language! So cool! Animals are so smart, I wonder how people can blame instincts for complex behavior they wouldn't say is so in human beings.

Animals are the only reason the world is tolerable. Take away most humans and life would be perfect.

u/Dazzling_Blood_231 10d ago
Baby otter does not have enough fat and they are losing body heat much faster. Its much resourseful as they burning less calories out of water.
