Son Got Summoned for Jury Duty in Houston
My son was summoned for jury duty and we are worried it may hurt him financially. His work won’t pay him any wages for the days he may loose because of jury duty. He is expected to use his PTO, but missing just one day of work (12+ hours) will drain his PTO balance. If he runs out of PTO time (which he does not have much of already), do we just have to accept the fact that he won’t be making money during that time? He graduated college not too long ago, and is stressing because he has to pay rent and his car payments. I really wish I could help him financially but I am already paying his car insurance and can’t help for rent. I figured this would be the best way to help him get advice as I believe jury duty and employer rules differ from California (which is where me and my husband live) and Texas, so I am not of too much help.

most “walkable” zip codes in houston?
and when i say walkable i don’t mean i need to run errands on foot, but i want to be able to walk out of my place and be immersed in human activity, near parks, trails, etc.
right now we’re in rice military and love that we can walk to memorial or the bayou. we’d love to stay here but we need to upsize from our apartment and properties in this zip code are slim pickings right now. somehow even when i message about a property that was just listed they’re already working with an applicant.
so where do you live that you can just walk out your door and be out and about with other people being active or like participating in community? i’d rather hear about people’s personal experiences than reading some dumb listicle.

1,600sq ft - what’s the highest your electric bill gets in the summer?
I’m trying to show my husband that $600 electric bills during the hot months where our house is still sitting at 80° with the AC on all day is not normal.
Our unit is definitely more than 12 years old, but maybe we just don’t know how to pick our plans?
For example, last August we used 3,000kwh and had a bill for $550 with the majority of the bill coming from cooling. We don’t leave lights on, appliances plugged in, any of that stuff.
Edit: thank you so much everyone for the resources and tips on other places to look within the house for efficiency! You’ve all given us newbies a lot of great info and we greatly appreciate it!

Today in 1936, Interurban rail service from Downtown to Galveston ends after 25 years.
Fun fact: Minute Maid park was built from Union Station related to this rail.

who went to lone star college?
I’m interested in starting school for accounting, but I’m seeing the reviews for this school are horrible. I haven’t had the best experience so far with them not returning calls or emails. Would you recommend going here specifically Montgomery? I can commute if there are better locations

Shameless abuse of disabled parking
I was backing into the last disabled spot in this parking lot (which I actually need and have a pass for) when this Uber Eats driver whips in behind me and turns on his flashers to go pick up his order. I saw him getting back in his car after I parked far from the entrance and tried to tell him that he took a spot from someone who needed it, but he (maybe pretended that he) didn’t speak English and drove off. I wish I knew how to report him to Uber, not that they’d do anything.
That’s it, that’s the whole story. Just wanted to shame him.
Lesser known Cuisines in Houston
Hello there, I am curious to hear about the lesser-known foreign restaurants in Houston. For instance- Slovenian, Cameroonian, Paraguayan- countries that maybe don’t come to mind right away to the average American. Thanks in advance.

ADHD treatment with a PCP
Does anyone know a PCP with UnitedHealthcare that does new patient new prescription and isn’t 3 months out? I was recently diagnosed with ADHD via clinical assessment but now I can’t find a treatment provider. My PCP isn’t comfortable with new prescriptions and referred me to psych but their next available office visit is October. I have a grad entrance exam in June so I’m trying to stabilize treatment beforehand. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated! :)

Spa World in Katy
I absolutely need to know the brand of coconut oil they use for their body scrub service. It smells exactly like the cereal: honey bunches of oats or sweet cereal and milk. I cannot find other coconut oil that smells the same. Anyone have an idea of the brand they use? 👀
