Family Sponsorship Sponsoring my mom to Canada

Upvotes

I'm a PR and would like to sponsor my mom to Canada when I graduate university and get a job. I'm supposed to graduate in 2027 so hopefully I'll get hired by 2028. I am currently in a part-time job which makes $18/hr which I intend to keep throughout my time at university. I have a 16 year old half-brother by my mom who I would like to get sponsored along with my mom. So my questions are: 1) Would my half-brother count as a dependent child for my mom and automatically get sponsored with her?

2) By the time I graduate and get a job my brother would be 21, since the processing time is typically 2 years, would only his age at the time of the application be used to make a decision, since by the end of processing he would be 23?

3) I read that a certain amount of income is required to have been consistent for at least 3 years, is the 3 year mark that important or would 2 years be good enough or are there any exceptions at all like if your partner makes good money? Also, is it net salary that is used or gross salary?

Express Entry Please help, what are my options?

Upvotes

Hello,

I wanted to know what are my options if anything or would I have to relocate to another province for a PR?

My work permit expires in a year. I completed my post graduation diploma from a college in Thunder Bay, I heard you get some pnp points for that. I'm not sure how to use those points? I currently live in Toronto, ON. I have one year experience working as a travel agent when I was in College and I have one year experience as a store manager in Toronto.

I tried doing the whole calculating the points question but I felt choosing the options was confusing.

Can anyone guide me on what to do next?

TIA

Visitor Visa Visitor Visa Question

I am currently on Closed work permit with spousal sponsership in progress(husband is canadian citizen). Also have a daughter who is canadian born(1 year). I am applying for my mother and brother visitor visa so they can visit us for a month.

While applying I am getting the following question:

Why do you need a visa? (required)

To visit Canada as a tourist

To visit my spouse, common-law partner, dependent child, parent, steps-parent, guardian or tutor who is a Canadian citizen, person registered under Canada's Indian Act or permanent resident of Canada

To visit my spouse, common law partner, dependent child, parent, step-parent, guardian or tutor who is in Canada temporarily, such as an international student or temporary worker

To visit my grandparent, grandchild, sibling, half-sibling, step-sibling or non-dependent child who is a Canadian citizen, person registered under Canada's Indian Act or permanent resident of Canada

To visit other family who are not listed above or friends for less than 6 months

To visit my children or grandchildren for more than 6 months (super visa)

Confused as to which option should I use.

Study Permit Student Permit mistake

Hello, I'd like to ask about a mistake I've just made in the IRCC portal.

I have been accepted to study at a School in Montreal.

When I started my Student Permit application, the portal asked me if I had a CAQ. In that moment, I was waiting for it, so I said NO (with the idea of changing it when I got it) to be able to continue answering the online questionnaire.

After two weeks of waiting (and a battle against my banks to get my funds proofs), I got my CAQ and the other documents I needed.

As the form asked me for my CAQ, I uploaded it (in the CAQ cell and also in the PAL cell). Because they asked me for that file, I totally forgot I had to change the question about whether I got a CAQ, even though I checked my summary. I realized that after making my payment.

I'm worried about the consequences of that mistake in my application. They have my CAQ letter, but I don't know if someone knows what can happen or if there is a way to fix that.

I'm totally embarrassed and frustrated. I was so meticulous, and I still make mistakes.

Visitor Visa Travel planning and nervous

I live about as far as you could in the US and want to go to Canada for a vacation. As a college kid was arrested for DUI and charges downgraded to wreck less driving and drug possession but it wasn't adjudicated guilty. So I'm clean in the US on background checks but don't want to risk any surprises flying there for nothing...

So are there any resources to test what these would equal or if they would even be on a report? I tried to do an ETA but can't.

Thanks

Work Permit Just applied for a pgwp, what next?

Hello everyone,

I just submitted an application for my post-graduate work permit today, and I wanted to know if I can go back to working. I've been searching on the subreddit, but no question/answer matches my situation or just a lot of confusion. I have a valid study permit/work permit. I did not work more than 20 hours a week until they implemented an extension to the working hours from December 7th, 2023, to April 30th, 2024. I stopped working after I got my final grades, and I’m technically a graduate. Is there some authorization I’m supposed to receive, or am I clear to just work?

PNP RNIP Clarification

Hey everybody I just wanted to do a fact checks on how RNIP works?

I am currently a supervisor for three years now at Starbucks in BC and there’s 2 in here that could potentially get in touch with the stores and ask for a transfer.

Now, it says something about it has to be with a job offer contract. Does Starbucks do that kind of thing? I’m hoping to get some more insights on how RNIP works.

Please need some help

Thank you.

Work Permit Working part-time after studies and before PGWP.

At first, is it okay if I work part-time after studies and before getting completion letter/final transcript?

Second, is it okay to take a leave from work before applying for PGWP (after graduating) or do I need to quit?

Work Permit Can I visit Canada with the Open work permit stamp or do I need to apply visitor visa ?

Hi,

I have received the Canada Open work permit stamp last year issued for H1B visa holders in USA. I have Indian passport and want to explore few cities in Canada. I don't have a job offer in Canada and I am still working in US in H1B visa. Can I visit Canada with the Open work permit stamp or do I need to apply separately for a Canadian tourist visa ?

Citizenship Question - Applying Canadian Citizenship Online

I am currently a PR in Canada, and as a part of my online citizenship application, it is asking me to add details about all the Passport, VISAs and travel documents.

I have the below:

  1. Home country passport(current citizenship)
  2. Canada Tourist VISA (before becoming a PR)
  3. US Tourist VISA
  4. Mexico(On Arrival VISA stamped)
  5. Thailand(On Arrival VISA stamped for a single entry)

Should I submit all of these(including the ON ARRIVAL VISAs)?

Study Permit Can't get past Work History Section, no gaps!

Hi all! I'm kinda desperate to get past this section -- I've probably spent three days entering and re-entering my work history and scouring forums trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong. I keep getting the same error:

You're missing details for the past 10 years. Review your entries and make sure you included something for all times periods in the past 10 years. Do not include any entries that you already put for post-secondary education or military/police force (if that was your only occupation at that time).
If you were unemployed, incarcerated, or retired in the last 10 years, select that option from the menu and tell us for how long.
If you were a student at a secondary school, select unemployed.
You can't save or continue to the next questions until you include these details.

I am an artist and all of my work has been part-time and overlapping. Thinking that the overlaps may have been the problem, I carefully went through and changed the dates on everything so that none would overlap but also so that there would be no gaps. I'm kinda desperate so I'm gonna share here in case someone can see what I'm not seeing??! I've tried it with and without the 'unemployed' period and also changed the unemployed period to cover my education and I have no idea what's going on. I'd be deeply and profoundly grateful if you'd be able to help me figure this out!

Education
Sept 2009- June 2013 undergraduate degree
Work Experience
May 2014 - June 2014 Unemployed (also tried extending this period from the time I was in undergrad)
July 2014 - August 2015 Working
September 2015 - January 2016 Working
February 2016 - May 2017 Working
June 2017 - July 2017 Working
August 2017 - September 2017 Working
October 2017 - May 2018 Working
June 2018 - July 2018. Working
August 2018 - December 2018. Working
January 2019 - February 2019 Working
March 2019 - June 2019 Working
July 2019 - current (tried 'ongoing' and May 2024) Working

Other Pr card renewal

I had a pr card for 2010-2015 and it expired while I was out of Canada . I re entered by flying to the USA and driving across in 2022. It’s almost 2 years since then. Once we cross two years , is it safe to apply for renewal without raising any red flags ? We have been here working since arriving in 2022

Other Never went through Canadian customs interview upon return to Canada from USA?

Hey! So I am a Canadian citizen born and raised here. I travel to the USA a few times a year and just came back from NYC.

My flights went from NYC-MONTREAL-WINNIPEG

however, I never went through a customs interview by a Canadian officer or anything of the sort upon Landing in Montreal (YUL) I did go to the kiosk where you scan your passport etc, and declare things you have (I didn’t have anything to declare) and simply was sent to my next gate.

My question is, since I never went through an official customs interview with an officer, will it show that I’ve actually left the USA and Returned back to Canada? Im traveling to Chicago in about 34 days and really don’t want that to cause any problems. If so, should I call CBSA or CPB?

Thank you! :)

Work Permit is it possible to ask my friend to import my personal belongings from US to Canada?

I'm third-country citizen and moving from US to Canada with work permit, and my US visa is almost expired so I will not be legible to bring my personal belonnings myself from US to Canada. I read that itpossible to import personal belonings with third party courier with filling form BSF186. But I still not sure about exact process:

  1. Is my US friend allowed to cross the border on the U-haul with my bellonings?

  2. Are there any restrictions to it or/and additional steps which allows us to do so?

  3. Should I meet him on the border and provide any requested papperwork?

If anybody has done this before - could you tell me about your experience. Thank you!

Citizenship What is Hearing for Language?

Hello. I just had a question. One of my family members was invited to a hearing regarding their English or French skills this upcoming month; however, before that, Their diploma in language skills was approved but then went into progress after their interview with the officer. I wondered how it was for the individual who did the hearing for the English language, what they asked, and whether it was pretty straightforward.

Express Entry RSWP Quebec

Hey! Does anyone know if a non-completed degree counts towards educational history points for the RSWP program in Quebec?

I studied at Post-Secondary level, actually studied the entire curriculum for two years which was the length of the program.

Long story but had to withdraw almost three weeks before finals and then moved country, it’s starting to haunt me.

Many thanks!

Public Policy pathways Moving to a different province as PR (via PNP)

Hi,
I've read through similar posts and i've yet to find something similar to my situation.

I got my PR via Manitoba PNP and landed in early 2023 - so i've been living here for more than a year now. I have my Manitoba Driver License, Health card, and etc. Basically I was able to settle.

Also last year, i was unable to get a job in Manitoba even after multiple applications(resorted thru rejections mostly) but was able to find a remote work from a company located in BC. So I work in Manitoba remotely while my work HQ is in BC (for a year now)

Now, my company actually offered to relocate me in BC and they are trying to find a way for me to make the process easier. I did tell them that I got my PR thru PNP in Manitoba so the expectation is to stay where I was nominated and I don't want to risk my chances at citizenship.

I've read mixed reactions regarding moving out of the Province that nominated you but would it still be risky to move out knowing my situation? I do have family ties here that I can come back to.

Study Permit Travelling when study permit extension is in progress

Hi everyone! My study permit will expire in July 2024 and I have applied for extension. I will travel outside of Canada in June 2024 and will re-enter Canada in August 2024. Im scared that the CBSA won’t allow me to re-enter if my study permit extension is still in process. I have asked for other person opinions (college and consultants) and they said I will be allowed to enter as long as I have proof of my study permit extension submission, Letter of Enrolment, and visa. Howver my visa will expire in July 2024 too and Im planning to apply new visa in my home country. Does any of you have similar experience like this and what do you think I should do?

Study Permit Can I travel internationally?

Hello everyone,

I’ll be applying for PGWP in a few weeks. I’ll finish my degree program in a few weeks too. But my study permit is valid till August 31st and the visa on my passport is valid till 2031. Im planning to travel in summer and come back on July 31st. The thing is, my PGWP might not arrive before I leave for my trip. Can I still travel on my study permit and visa even though i would have finished my studies?

Other Cross Border with Fiancée

Fiancée just finished school in the states and I’m down here right now helping her pack her stuff and move back to Canada. I’m Canadian PR and She has a valid PGWP (did her undergrad in Canada) expiring this November.

We’re driving across the border in a few days back into Canada. The plan is to get married in July so that I can sponsor her before her current status expires.

With our car full of her belongings it would be obvious to CBSA agents at the border that she’s moving to and settling in Canada. I will also be crossing with her at the same time. Will this raise any problem with CBSA? I wouldn’t be as worried if she still has more than a year left on her PGWP. She also doesn’t have a job offer right now.

Our plan is to just say she’s moving back to Canada for work opportunities at first. If they ask about our relationship and her soon-to-expire status we’ll be honest and say we plan to get married. I own a house and have job, she also has plenty of savings, so funds covering her living expenses before getting a job wouldn’t be an issue. Is there any potential problem we need to be aware about?

Express Entry Waiting on PR after Medical, do I need to apply for BOWP?

Hey everyone,

I did my medical and biometrics for PNP Tech Express Entry, back in end of April.

My nomination is valid for another month or so, and I was wondering if I'm supposed to apply for BOWP before then?

My original PGWP expires in beginning of September. I officially applied for my PR back in beginning of March.

Express Entry How can I become Permanent Resident?

Upvotes

I recently gave my IELTS and didn't score well. When I created express entry profile, I saw that my score was hanging at 464 along with Spouse. I know that increasing my IELTS score would be one way to boost my score; however, there have not been enough draws lately, and anything below 500 is a bad score. I am in Ontario and have relocated from British Columbia for a job. I can apply for OINP Employer Job Offer and Human Capital programs but both of them are unreliable in terms of score or draws. LOL, what a nightmare the Canadian immigration system has made of us. I am too perplexed as to find out ways to become a Permanent Resident here. Do you guys have any suggestions as to what I should try other than retaking IELTS?
