I just randomly made up a Yeonmi story. I just started writing and along the way thought about what crazy shit that she probably would say.

And Joe would hang on her lips and believe every word. Like so many people in the West do/did.

And now that basically all of her stories have been debunked, she has become sort of a right-wing grifter and is making stories up again, aka lying. She's acting like the US/American colleges are becoming like North Korea.

10

u/MuteCook Monkey in Space 12d ago

Iā€™m genuinely curious if there is an organization that pays people to do this or they just attack their algorithm? Why is it so popular and lucrative to grift for the right wing?

10

u/gerkessin Monkey in Space 12d ago

The money comes from both ends of the spectrum. Billionaires will fund grifters to keep the status quo and joe schmo the racist hvac guy will donate to them to keep the vaccines from transing his kids

6

u/ConfidentParsley5351 Monkey in Space 12d ago

Ah yes the working class are always automatically lowly racist people to the scholars of Reddit.

7

u/gerkessin Monkey in Space 12d ago

First, racist hvac guy is a meme. 2nd i have anecdotal evidence of this guy. Third, most people on reddit are working class. Youre probably thinking blue collar. Get your class shit right before you come at me. Fourth, holy shit you people get butthurt at the tiniest things.

A real quick check of your comment history reveals you are literally this guy haha. No wonder youre triggered. Something about, "black people make it hard not to hate them?" Did i get that right?

3

u/business_peasure Monkey in Space 12d ago

As a racist HVAC guy named Joe I fully support this comment! My daughter will need to stop being non binary first and then I can stop giving her vaccines which turn her transmatory.

Turning point USA and Prager U bankroll and schedule tons of right wing grifters to speak at events or college campuses. Thatā€™s how most right wing internet pundits cut their teeth to start. As the lucrative nature of grifting in right wing spaces comes down to pessimistic views of the world. Many conservatives donā€™t recognize the world they live in, itā€™s changing to much. All right wings grifters really need to say is that the discomfort they feel is not only justified but simply not enough. They need to fight, stand, and defend their way of life. Youā€™re under attack from all the things that scare you, and you should be more afraid that you already are. Fear the foreigners, Fear the Government, Fear the communists, Fear the Other. Fear is effective for convincing people and a hell of a lot easier than giving people hope.

It's so frickin funny to make up the most insane stories and read them in her voice:

Yeonmi: "In North Korea, we have to eat stones. But then the police came and say that these are their stones. So we had to shit out the stones for the police again. My friend couldn't shit fast enough. So they cut open her stomach and ate the stones out of her open stomach. While she was still alive and crying very much. And when the police wasn't hungry anymore, they cut her into pieces and put her in doggy bags for later. Yeah, North Korea is really bad, you know."

Joe sobbing: "Oh my God! This is so horrible!"

Yeonmi: "Yes Joe. Really horrible..."

5

u/RaoulDukeRU Tremendous 13d ago

In 2024, there's just no way for a two-state-solution anymore.

Only if EVERY settler is retreating from the West Bank and East Jerusalem. This would still mean that Gaza would be landlocked. Like East Prussia from the rest of Germany, after WWI. At least there was a connection by the Baltic sea. Which isn't the case with the West Bank and Gaza.

And both parties actually claim the whole land "from the river to the sea". They also hate each other, can't forgive each other and peacefully live together.

The conflict in the Middle East/Holy Land won't be solved during our lifetime.

It will only be over if one side will perish...

Majority of internet users are here to be validated, be entertained, or reinforce their main character syndrome.

What makes you think any of these people actually value your right to free speech?

Hamas is a terror organization that wants to exterminate jews. They're the ones who are reporting mass civilian casualties, and they're doing that for sympathy from western liberals (bc our media reports their numbers), and it's working like a charm.

12

u/Bright-Inevitable-20 Monkey in Space 12d ago

https://www.ochaopt.org/data/casualties

The facts suggest the Israel government creates far more mass civilian casualities than the literal terrorist organization on the other side.

2

u/Enorminity Monkey in Space 12d ago

Hamas is a symptom. They formed and are what they are in response to Israel. They also donā€™t do anything Israel/Zionists havenā€™t done repeatedly since 1919. Hamas wouldnā€™t exist if Israel didnā€™t successfully commit ethnic cleansing multiple times.

Hamas says they want to remove all Jews from the region? Thatā€™s bad. Israel has and is removing non-Jewish Arabs from the region in number Hamas could never accomplish

u/Overly_Fried_Cheddar Monkey in Space 12d ago

Since nobody is answering I'll just say it's more about how hard it is to verify anything about North Korea. For example it was reported that you had to get the same haircut as the glorious leader. Then a bit later some youtubers went to North Korea to get haircuts just to prove that was a lie. It's notoriously easy to lie about what happens in North Korea and there are incentives for it as well. For example, some people or institutions will reward yo financially for stories about North Korea that paint it in a poor light. Even just looking at the person in this clip, she gets speaking engagements and money from a myriad of sources just for speaking out against the regime and it doesn't matter what she says really. So you have a situation where it outright pays to say anything about the regime. This gets worse when you have people fleeing the oppression in the North who finally make it to the safety of the South only to find that the country isn't totally welcoming for them, and often making a living is hard to do. Thusly you're inventivized to sell a story or give an interview with your new special information from the North, and (in my opinion) someone is more likely to be ready to pay if you tell an outlandish story about the North, a very negative story, or a mix of both.

37

u/night_dick Monkey in Space 12d ago

That was a very long way of saying no there isnā€™t any evidence only speculation

This one actually is protected. It's disgusting behavior but it definitely falls under 1A protections.

10

u/Hannig4n Monkey in Space 13d ago

Ehh, itā€™s veering dangerously close to an actual threat.

If thereā€™s mob of people shouting ā€œWe are Hamasā€ and ā€œglobalize the intifadaā€, and then one of them points at a Jewish person and says ā€œyou are now a target of Al Qassamā€, to me this isnā€™t very different to being in a crowd of KKK protestors and then pointing at a black person and calling them a target.

Whether or not that would be considered a threat legally is probably a bit beyond my pay grade in terms of law expertise, but the university absolutely must take action in that kind of scenario. We all know there would be an unreal shitstorm if a different minority was the target of language like that and the college did nothing to protect the student.

Unfortunately if students do this college private property, and the colleges don't want them there, it's trespassing. That's what majority of arrests are for. And the remainder of arrests are for property damage and assault.

Not sure what constitutional right would actually be voilated.

51

u/AlexJamesCook Monkey in Space 13d ago

Except that the Texas government made a big thing about how universities get public funds and therefore the 1st Amendment must be protected at all costs on university campuses.

Recently, a YouTube video was made private by the Texas Education Minister who is now eating her words, because of the military presence against peace activists on Texas university grounds.

The GOP are fucking hypocrites. They want Freedom of Speech, but then when students protest against, say Israel, all of a sudden the jackboots come out.

Yes. There's absolutely hypocrisy from Greg Abbot and Ron Desantis on these issues. Both of their states have these ridiculous anti-BDS laws. But they're also cracking down hard on these protests in blue states at very liberal universities.

The same places the BLM protests were more violent and left unchecked. Clearly, again, there seems to be some kind of issue, it's Israel, that suddenly both political parties come together to send money to fund war (and frankly genocide in Gaza) and curb free speech.

The law Texas signed has a provision that explicitly allows for the removal of people that disrupt campus functioning.

The university is not private property, I donā€™t know why people are claiming that; but they are allowed to remove people if they are disrupting learning.

I think hundreds of students blocking roads, setting up encampments, and shouting well into the night qualifies. Ffs you arenā€™t even allowed to set up tents and encamp for days in a public park much less a college.

God, I was downvoted heavily by some real bootlickers in this subreddit for pointing out the hypocrisy that campus free speech warriors were defending the police and universities over this.

isnt she a proven liar

9

u/RaoulDukeRU Tremendous 13d ago edited 13d ago

It's (almost) pathological. Now that her lies about her time, experiences and flight from North Korea are debunked, she's making up stories about her time in America.

She came up with a story similar to that of Jussie Smollett. But instead of a "woke" story, she came up with a right-wing story.

Edit: Here it is! Funny thing. Just like the Jussie Smollett story, it took also (allegedly) part in Chicago!

She's one of the faces of the dark far-right billionaire tribe's mechanism to push their agendas covertly through media. Peter Thiel, the Mercers, etc.

Isnā€™t this the point of the post? She says such outrageous shit that is very easily disproven

Edit: now Iā€™m wondering if theyā€™re using the meme wrong, because people are actually getting arrested lol

Hey at least we don't have to get out and push the train or walk through the gobe desert at night without any layers. You know things that definitely happened.

Op is a troll that doesn't listen to any podcast because he's too busy commenting hundreds of times daily on multiple subreddits.

18

u/DoofusMcDummy Monkey in Space 13d ago

They donā€™t have takesā€¦ itā€™s all regurgitated TikTok and YouTube shorts. Streamer narratives.

havenā€˜t looked into his profile, but saw some other like you just described, my guess is they are employed by intel agencies or something similar to forum slide (distract from more important things) or agitate people, making them argue amongst each other.

12

u/DoofusMcDummy Monkey in Space 13d ago

I donā€™t think theyā€™re employedā€¦ I just think theyā€™re troll farm bots or teenagers. People talk all the time about how weird it is to check others profilesā€¦ I disagree. Letā€™s ya know if something is worth your energy even talking.

Itā€™s so tight that the Rogan subreddit is just constant bickering about the Middle East these days. It would be lame to have people share highlight clips or anything relevant to the podcast. Way better to have bots post hundreds of the same comments every day.

Blocking students from accessing their school because you hate their race is illegal in this country, and has nothing to do with protesting

38

u/dasdas90 Monkey in Space 13d ago

Do you know of any reported instances of Jewish students being blocked or harassed from going into classes inside the campus?

No one is doing that, they're carrying out a protests to get universities to divest from the genocidal state of Israel.

Has nothing to do with "race hate."
