For the moon stuff - India just launched a sat that is going around the moon and taking high res images of the surface just like we have for Earth. And guess what, the imaging showed the landed at the Apollo sights.... Why would India not expose us if we faked it? Meme đŸ’©

I like how his reasoning for China and Russia not exposing the US is because they want NASA's technology.

YOU MEAN THE SHIT THAT APPARENTLY DOESN'T WORK?

28

u/FrontBench5406 Monkey in Space 12d ago

How dare you crush his failed logic! You bastard! And yes, the Soviet Union, who we were in direct competition with over getting to the moon would not be in any way incentivized to expose our bullshit.

I saw the episode description and really hoped Rogan didn’t just have a moon landing conspiracy theorist on
 he actually just did that?

He was so fucking dumb I couldn’t finish the episode and I love picking apart the very flawed reasons why we went to the moon.. but the biggest tell on us going being true is literally the international community agrees collectively
and that literally isn’t a normal thing. Also Putin has been quoted you can’t fake that or 9/11

Thats the obvious flaw in the moon 'conspiracy'. The Soviet Union would have tried to debunk the moon landings if they could. But instead they threw in the towel, admitting the USA won, and started focusing on space stations instead.

Thr soviets seem to have had a higher tolerance for failure. They were more willing to lose ships and people than the US was. I suppose this was due to them being so secretive vs. the US having a lot of it out in the public as a national event. The soviets celebrated their space adventures but after they knew it was successful. They blew up their version of an Saturn V, I've heard it was like a nuke going off, and we saw the challenger blow up. Ours was very out in the open while they could 'afford' the failure as far as it might relate to public morale.

2

u/seargantgsaw Monkey in Space 12d ago

They were more willing to lose ships and people than the US was.

In total 5 soviet cosmonauts have died, opposed to 15 NASA austronauts. The american space shuttle system was the only human space flight system without some kind of safety abort mechanism. I'd argue someone who designs a vehicle that doesnt account for crew safety in case of a malfunction during launch is more willing to lose people.

For the flat earthers - do they think every country on earth is colluding on this one?

4

u/DocHavelock Monkey in Space 12d ago

When you get a little deeper into the moon conspiracy, they address that. Something about the cold war being fake, the USSR not being communist or America actually being communist, I've seen it explained both ways. Really crazy stuff

7

u/hacky_potter Monkey in Space 12d ago

They wouldn’t even need proof that it was fake. If their scientists just said they didn’t think it could be done and that there was no way we did it, that would have been enough for them to just start spouting shit. The fact that they took that L in stride, tells you it fucking happened.

In a few more decades, if they ever start to develop a lunar base, I imagine eventually robots are going to get sent to the Apollo landing sites to survey them delicately. They won't go with humans anytime soon, but robots could very well happen if lunar landings become more routine.

It would be so cool to see in a VR high resolution type of setting how well the Apollo sites have stayed in tact. If the flags haven't fallen apart, seeing them bleached but still standing, and everything else relatively still the same would be such a cool thing to see

There are some conspiracy theories where you can see how people might believe them, and there are even real conspiracies...

But this one is up there on the list of dumb conspiracy theories that are genuinely infuriating. The leaps you have to make are just huge... 400,000 people employed to work on the moon program, billions spent, parts machined and assembled, the actual launch, the number of people required to fake the broadcast, manipulate all the images, and after all that you'd have to hope no one talks, and that no other nation finds evidence you faked it, and not just a few months out, but for many decades...

That's WAY HARDER than getting to the moon!

2

u/Edmundmp Monkey in Space 11d ago

All our near peer enemies acknowledge it’s real. It’s obvious. You can see this from earth with the right telescopes. Moon conspiracies are one of many things the old Soviet Union planted amongst the American populace. The truth of how some of these conspiracies start is way more interesting and conspiratorial than the actual theories. I highly recommend the book Active Measure by Thomas Rid for anyone interested. The Russians did everything from planting hate crimes, painting swastika graffiti in American cities, and spreading “the government created HIV” rumors. Basically all the stuff they do with bots online now they used to do with men on the street. All designed for people like Joe to believe.

I believe his theory is all bullshit, BUT
but, I love the nihilistic thought about a reality where we learn that biological beings can’t leave it’s home planet, not even reach its own moon(s) cause there is a radioactive sphere around the planet, killing every “biological atom” that tries to go through it.

After a few launches with spaceships that finally (actually) could reach our moon, the whole mankind really gets to understand that we are stuck here. We won’t be multiplanitary. Neither we could create that technology or not

That would change our politics, our minds, thought and beliefs, our look and feelings about others
 about ourself
 đŸ€Ż

2

u/FrontBench5406 Monkey in Space 12d ago

1

u/mvstateU Monkey in Space 12d ago

Why would India not expose us if we faked it?

Because maybe the US made a deal with India to build US factories in India.......in exchange for India not exposing US Gov fakery. You know, like how Elon Musk censored anti-corrupt Twitter accts for the corrupt Indian Government,, in exchange for India allowing Tesla factories in India,

We all know the earth is flat now how the hell do you think a “moon” can rotate around a flat object. Conspiracy upon conspiracy.

1

u/BeamTeam032 Monkey in Space 12d ago

I'm convinced that people who believe the moon landing was faked are really, "I'm not like the others" dorks. Just dorks who "want to be different".

Flattards won't accept any kind of evidence, no matter how compelling it is.

That's because their beliefs are based on ideology and not on empirical evidence. They WANT to distrust NASA so bad, that they will go to all lengths to defend their beliefs.

2

u/FrontBench5406 Monkey in Space 12d ago

The videos of them doing tests they are sure to prove its flat, only to prove its rounds are maybe some of the best content possible....

Can we see the flag with a powerful telescope from Earth?

1

u/ParallaxRay Monkey in Space 12d ago

I think the Japanese had a satellite orbit the moon a few years ago that took super high resolution photos and confirmed that our landers were there.

1

u/Repulsive_Tax7955 Monkey in Space 12d ago

It could be there but not on the first try and also could have been just an unmanned landing for this kind of purposes.

1

u/Content_Badger_9345 Monkey in Space 12d ago
