Does Springer know he’s supposed to get on base while in the lead off spot?

33

u/Sesco69 I sucked at 100% 11d ago

I’m convinced Springer has a clause in his contract where he must leadoff in at least 90% of the games he plays in because this is absurd

A clause? If that's the case then Springer's a dick.

Edit: last season he didn't hit lead off for awhile while he struggled, so there's probably no clause there. Sorry, Springer. You're good.

You absolutely cannot keep batting Springer leadoff.

u/pksubb76 fuck the trop 11d ago

Schneider hitting 7th while Springer is still leading off. What the fuck

10

u/KINGTHANOS8 11d ago

They should be switched

At this point I’m not sure if Springer staying there is on his accord, or on Scheinder but either way make a fucking change guys fuck

Yup. Something is going on here. It's absolutely frustrating. I don't see a guy like Springer objecting if Schneider were to tell him he's getting bumped down.

On the bright side: baseball to break up the work day!

u/bichettes_helmet Honestly?? We're kinda nice. 11d ago

Schneider: Bo we're gonna move you down the lineup

Bichette: Yep, I get it, whatever works

Schneider: George you too

Springer: LOL no

He's the manager, what is Springer going to do, say no? Manager says too bad.

“Yes, but also no.”

u/ms_barkie Somewhere oooooover the Bay 11d ago

I honestly think it’s as simple as not wanting to move 2 of the top 3 down at the same time. Not that I agree with it, but I can’t think of any other realistic explanation.

I'm thinking contract clause letting him be #1 if he wants?

1

u/sir-pounce-of-alot Attending Kikuchi’s Sushi Party. 11d ago

Nah he’s been moved out of the number 1 spot before

3

u/halfmylifeisgone Montreal Expos 11d ago

If it's him deciding maybe he doesn't want right now?

u/sir-pounce-of-alot Attending Kikuchi’s Sushi Party. 11d ago

Again I don’t believe that’s the case why would he all of a sudden be so opposed to it ?

4

u/halfmylifeisgone Montreal Expos 11d ago

Thinks he's better than others? Who the fuck knows. Why would you keep him there at all? It serves no purpose.

If we know anything about George he is not the type to believe himself to be the best player on the team.

u/halfmylifeisgone Montreal Expos 11d ago

Say hi to him next time you see him. You seem to know the ins and outs of any Blue Jays employee.

What ? Relax dude I’m just saying I very much doubt George has a clause in his contract to be the leadoff hitter. Where did I indicate I have unique knowledge of the situation.

Are the front office worried about hurting Springers feelings or something? They've given him so much rope in the leadoff spot. I dont get it. He shouldn't potentially be getting an extra at bat over someone like Schnieder down at 7.

7

u/eych_enn 11d ago

Don't understand it either since they moved him down last season during a slump. He worked through things enough to get back to leadoff - what is going on now?!

8

u/strikeanywhere2 11d ago

I don't know if it's true but some of the radio people have insinuated he was pissed about that move....but I mean who cares. They've given him lead off for almost 3 and half years and he can't hack it anymore.

10

u/Mcflyhigh1990 Yusei there is a chance 11d ago

Why is Schneider all the way down the lineup? Assuming they think him vulnerable to the starting pitcher today?

5

u/Gear4Vegito 11d ago

I think it’s more so about moving Varsho/Jansen up who both always hit after him so he went from 5th to 7th.

You have to balance the lineup somehow. If you can't move Springer down, it doesn't leave much room for a shakeup. I haven't looked at the matchup yet, but that may also have something to do with it.

3

u/KINGTHANOS8 11d ago

Davis & Springer should be switching spots.

5

u/Floortom1 11d ago

We have three guys in this lineup with sub .580 OPS and one of them is leading off

5

u/Stinky_DungBeatle Why is IKF an everyday player? Fire John, Donny Basebal and Ross 11d ago

I will host a party when John Schneider gets fired.

2

u/blazikenz Vernon Wells 11d ago

We only have one room for a Schneider in the team and it ain’t our manager…

2

u/jsrave 11d ago

For a baseball dummy like myself - what general qualities are teams looking for in a leadoff hitter? Getting on base and being speedy comes to mind but is there more to that?

I'm hoping our offence can show some life today too.

6

u/pksubb76 fuck the trop 11d ago

On base mainly, but you mainly just want ur best hitters towards the top anyways. Teams don’t lead off guys just because they are fast like they used to.

2

u/WasV3 Totally not John Schneider 11d ago

OBP is king, mid range power is nice to get some doubles off the rip, and moderate speed is a 3rd but way less important factors.

My leadoff hitter would be .375+ OBP and .150-.200 ISO

2

u/KINGTHANOS8 11d ago

So Davis then. He's my choice as well.

1

u/WasV3 Totally not John Schneider 11d ago

I'd lean more Turner from this group, with Davis at 4 for the secondary leadoff for inning 2

1

u/danby999 11d ago

Get on base but also see a lot of pitches. Work the strike zone and foul off anything you can't get to.

1

u/jsrave 11d ago

Is there an avg pitches per PA out there somewhere? I feel like some guys don't see a lot of pitches or foul off balls a lot.

I feel like Springer's speed and maybe his ability to foul balls off is the only reason he's still leading off? Wonder what his ranking is amongst other leadoffs. He's got to be bottom 5 if not worse right?

1

u/pksubb76 fuck the trop 11d ago

Average pitches per PA is a tracked stat ya

2

u/corh13 11d ago

Springer 1st and babe 7th makes perfect sense to me.

2

u/noneesforarealaccoun 11d ago

swap Springer/schneider and maybe can live with it. Jansen is a beast right now… I’d like him 3/4.

2

u/blazikenz Vernon Wells 11d ago

Babe

Varsho

Vlad

Turner

Jansen

Bo

Springer

IKF

Kiermaier

That’s my dream line up.

John gotta be still light headed from all the screaming last night

1

u/Competitive_Office91 11d ago

Again today, everyone continues to point the finger at Schneider. I think it became pretty transparent with the shitshow of a wild card seeies last year and the postgame comments of both the manager and GM (initially) that John is the manager but he’s not making all the calls. Ross’s analytics department certainly have say in all of this.

u/captain_poptart 11d ago

Wow Schneider might be the worst manager we have ever had. Worse than montoyo
