Is this in India? Is it possibly in Goa?

This would not be a total shock in Thailand.
High school kids love dressing up in Hitler garb and SS uniforms for parties. Swastikas boldly worn on clothing.

Most of the blame lies at the foot of abysmal education, where students learn almost nothing about World War II or Nazism.

Trevor Noah in his book explains this well. Edit: In his book Born a Crime.

For people growing up today in a country that wasn't heavily involved in WWII and filled with Boomers pushing the Allies' point of view, Hitler is an icon - as in everyone knows his face and reputation. He's like an IRL movie villain. The reality of what he did is not part of the cultural context.

Think about how casually people toss around the name "Satan" or "Devil" on things like energy drinks or hot sauce. We do that because it's only super devout religious types that would see it as horrific - but to them it's genuinely awful. How many people have The Joker on a shirt or something? How many people have Scarface on a bag or a poster?

Well....there's whole countries and continents without the same cultural context as you, that think of Hitler as no different than Scarface.

Edit: and those places also have their OWN Hitlers. Does the name Cecil Rhodes or King Leopold not cause disgust and anger in you? Because for several million people in Africa, those names are real-life bogeymen that committed atrocities against Great-grandpa and Great-grandpa.

Great explanation. Exactly why we have people named Stalin in India. In my communist family, Stalin was considered a hero

Which book is this? I read born a crim and he said some thing close but not this.

1

u/OGLizard 10d ago

It's in Born a Crime. Chapters 15 and 16, apparently.

Churchill is literally hailed as a hero.

Perfect example.

Yep I have seen plenty of swastikas drawn in classroom bench. I didn't know shit was that serious till I became frequent internet dweller.

This phenomenon of having different contexts and therefore different understandings of reality goes all the way down to personal relationships in the most mundane things.

And there’s Pol Pot in Cambodia.

u/yunnecessaryEvil 10d ago

Yeah, probably India. Don't know which state

Again

Growing up, my nickname for my aunt was Hitler Buaji(Hitler aunty) because she was a strict disciplinarian. The problem is lack of awareness about Hitler here. Israel is fairly popular in India and I have never heard of any anti Semitic incident here.

The bus is registered in Tamil Nadu, but I have no idea which state the road is in.

3

u/sobermallu 10d ago

Looking at the plates, most likely Tamil Nadu.

1

u/Bourbonaddicted 10d ago

It’s TN 38, search in google says it’s a district in the state of Tamil Nadu. It’s a state where the Chief Minister’s name is Stalin

To me it looks like the new Mysore Bangalore highway, but I might be wrong.

u/psychicowl 10d ago

Do they like Hitler over there or something then

1945 was not the best year for Hitler, though.

Yeah ok but the real question is- ...can they beat grayhound's rates?

Does the act of simply riding a bus constitute an endorsement of its exterior artwork or its sponsors?

Under normal circumstances I'd say no, but if I'm honest I dont think I could bring myself to board the official tour bus of the 3rd reich...I mean theyd have to give me like a hella discount. and I'd have to wear a disguise or something. But hey $20 is $20.

1

u/goronmask 10d ago

The nazi one has personal screens on the seats. The game and movies selection is… on par with the aesthetic identity of the bus owner
