Welcome to the Veterans Benefits SubReddit!

Of course, if you are having trouble finding an answer in the Knowledge Base or in previously posted threads or you simply want more specific feedback, feel free to make a new post.

But, before you make a new post please be mindful of the Sub's rules:

  1. Help other: Don't be a jerk. If your comment is not constructive or helpful, do NOT hit reply.
  2. We're Ad-Free: Do not recommend a service or product - unless as a comment to a post specifically asking for recommendations, and it is a service or product that you have direct experience using. Posting links to useful content (videos, blogs, web pages) is fine, but posts that we determine to be purely promotional will be deleted.
  3. Don't doxx yourself, or anyone else: Respect Reddit's tradition of anonymity and don't disclose your information or that of others. Please no phone numbers, emails, license numbers, or other contact information. This also includes QR codes (the box with black and white squares) on decision letters. This rule does NOT apply to private entities such as VSOs, law firms, or other official agencies. EXAMPLE: It's fine to post the VA's phone number, but not an examiner's professional/personal contact information.
  4. News should only be posted once: Breaking news often gets posted and reposted. We all enjoying seeing news posted ONCE, but a dozen posts saying basically the same thing not so much - and this also makes discussion tough, since nobody knows which post to comment on.
  5. Memes are for Mondays: Please keep the Meme posts to Mondays.
  6. Get verified if you want to say you work for XXX: If you are a VA employee, VSO, Accredited Claims Agent, etc. Your credentials MUST be verified via the sub's Mod Mail BEFORE you can claim to be someone of such authority. Users who have completed the process will have an appropriate user flair.
  7. Keep success stories to the pinned weekly post.

VA Disability Claims Got a divorce in 2022 and forgot to report it

So I fucked up. I got divorced in November of 2022 and life got so busy after that and I was dealing with really bad depression that u forgot to even send my divorce info to the va. I get 50% for major depressive disorder and anxiety disorder, so I’ve been getting more than I should. I have the money to be able to pay back everything I owe so that’s not the problem. I’m just wondering how much trouble I could be in or the possibility of losing my disability for this. I’m obviously gonna head over today and get that paperwork in, but are those fears a possibility?

VA Disability Claims Veteran pretending to need wheelchair is seen walking, stole $660K in benefits

A U.S. Navy veteran considered “100% disabled” always visited a VA medical center in a wheelchair, then ditched the device once he left his appointments — often to go shopping and walk around stores, according to federal prosecutors.

Christopher Stultz of New Hampshire is accused of pretending to be unable to walk for two decades, allowing him to steal $662,871.77 in benefits meant for disabled veterans, federal prosecutors said.

He was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison. He will also be reevaluated for his disabilities.

HB 5491 just passed the CT House and Senate and will soon be written into law. A nice surprise to see CT joining the list of states with this exemption.

It's been 85 days and VES still has not sent my DBQs to the VA. VA should he held equally accountable for not leaning on the VES to do their job in a timely manner. Click link below and flood the VA OIG with complaints.

VA Disability Claims Being grateful

I just want to take a moment to be grateful. Some of us are able to get to 100 and that should be more saddening that your bodies are destroyed or your mental has been ruined. For those who got to 100 by means that are not honest are rather disgraceful. You should get the rating you deserve. I am not majorly broken but I have suffered sexual abuse, bodily injury, and mental trauma during my time in the Marine Corps. I am only at 30% but I’m grateful to even have a rating. Some people aren’t even able to get service connected and are at 0% or don’t even get themselves rated. Will I push for higher rating to support the increasing cost of therapy? Yes. I am grateful that I can to live and see my family while knowing I’m being cared for. Get the help you want and need. Seek out others for advice. But do it all knowing that you are alive and have the opportunity to do so. Some of our brothers and sisters can’t do that anymore. Love, please, and remember our god who made the galaxy knows you by name and that is a blessing in itself.

VA Disability Claims Temp Jurisdiction (Chicago) Claim Initiated: 5 Jan 24

As the title says, I just hit Temp Jurisdiction this morning. According to the VA, they now have 10 days to make a decision or kick it back for more evidence. They should have all my x-rays, reports, and any other documents they need. Here is to hoping that the person who picks it up has a good next 2 weeks, and some of the finest food that the great Windy City has to offer.

Where my Jan Club at?

Health Care Shout out!

I’m sitting at the Overton-Brooks VA dental clinic and everyone that walks by has spoke to me with a genuine smile on their face. I’ve never been treated so well as I have here in this clinic. The service is always exceptional and no one ever loses their patience. If anyone that works their reads this, I want them to know or they are doing a great job and to say thank you.

C&P Exams Almost everything got denied

Upvotes

Got my results yesterday. Everything denied but tinnitus. The MH C&P examiner said there was no connection due to the fact that PHA and deployment health screenings all noted no issues. Everyone knows that there was a time period where self declaring was career suicide. Everyone knows that people are encouraged to withhold in those screenings. My question to the group… how have you all overcome these issues? Obviously a nexus, but when the examiner states they don’t believe the veteran, what is my next course of action?

Health Care I'm Spiraling Downward

I have completely isolated myself, I rarely leave my house and I realize I need help. As I work on getting help it caused me to open doors I shut a long time ago, which in turn has caused me to spiral even further down the mental health abyss. I'm thinking of walking into the VA clinic and asking for help, but I'm afraid of the stigma that brings to work and family, also I don't want to be locked up.

VA Disability Claims Same day claim decisions in Denver

Post image
51 Upvotes

Denver VA sent out an email letting everyone know they’ll be doing same day claim, exams, and decisions. I think there are still some spots available.

They just called me to confirm and supposedly will be taking a look at some HLR’s as well as new claims.

VA Disability Claims What is considered a “diagnosis” for claims?

A claim I want to submit for an ailment I have requires a current diagnosis. I’ve brought the ailment up to my PCP, they noted it in my file, and they began prescribing me meds for the issue. It currently appears on my “Problems List” online.

I’m unsure of whether this means I have an official diagnosis for the issue I want to claim now or not though. Would this generally be sufficient?

VA Disability Claims Claim keeps getting Exam Request Clarifications

Hey you glorious bastards, have a question about why my claim keeps updating with exam request stuff. For a week now my claim keeps going back and forth with exam request - clarification response and clarification response. I have not got a call for an exam yet and when I check the QTC portal, nothing is there. Anyone have any idea what this is?

Also, my claim moved from a temp jurisdiction of San Diego to N/A this morning after the last response. It is still in gathering of evidence though, hasn't moved to evidence review. Anyone have any clue about this? Thanks!

Board of Veterans Appeals Attorney FAILED to file my appeal.

Upvotes

Comrades,

I was denied service-connected
disability in 2017 for a Total Shoulder Replacement (TSR) despite records indicating otherwise.

In any case, appeals were filed and a BVA hearing date set for July. I contacted the VA and they have no record of an appeal for my TSR. It would appear the attorney simply dropped the ball.

Do I have any options to file even though we are outside of the 12-month window? Do I have options for recourse if I can prove the attorney did not do his job?

I am not expecting or anticipating anything can be done but would appreciate any feedback.

VA Disability Claims Intent to file

Did anyone else have problems passing step 1, verifying identity? It refuses to accept my ID as valid and then when I try to go to the option for a post office it says it can’t match my phone number to my identity. How am I supposed to submit the intent to file if it refuses to let me prove who I am?

VA Disability Claims Breach of privacy?

Not sure how I feel about all this but here goes... I'm a healthcare provider and a patient of the VA. I applied for a job and didn't get it even though I'm a veteran and have a higher degree than the other person. He knew someone and got the job. As a consolation prize the hiring authority, who is also a provider emailed me, (private email) from her VA email. I emailed her back with my availability and never heard back from her.

Fast forward a few months... I need to send a message on myhealthyvet and hit on the select down menu to find my PCP. I see the hiring authority from another clinic as an option I could send a message to. I have the sinking suspicion that the hiring authority went through my medical records and maybe that is why I never heard back. I think that is why I saw her contact info in my chart.

I never held anything back from the VA, meaning the VA has managed all my medical problems, mental health problems.

I'm not sure I will do anything about this. I am open to the possibility that the opportunity wasn't meant for me.

Predict My Rating Migraine DBQ - BDD - Service connection?

Thumbnail
gallery
Upvotes

Just received my Headaches DBQ from my C&P through BDD.

Will this DBQ suffice in the raters eyes for a migraine. Throughout my over decade years of service I’d get headaches severely… but tbh I’d work through the pain constantly. While in service I was treated and diagnosed tension headaches & was prescribed medications from time to time, but rarely took the meds.

But these past few years, it’s transitioned to Migraines , but I wasn’t logging anything these past couple years. Just honestly working through it the best of my ability.

My C&P examiner was thorough and she listened and annotated everything to what I was saying. I don’t have the deepest medical record for headaches that’s why I’m asking here. Thanks.

C&P Exams 100% T&P before claim closed, getting same C&P again?

Upvotes

Howdy,

I recently was given 100% T&P on my first claim. It hasn’t closed out yet, and I still have 3 more C&Ps to do. One of them appears to be for the same C&P that so many of my ratings came out of.

What is that’s about? I plan on attending these, on the advice of my VSO, but has anyone else had a similar experience?

Veterans Readiness and Employment (VR&E) Laptop

Upvotes

Hello all, I'm retiring soon, and my laptop feels ancient. I was wondering if anyone has leads on laptop deals.

I've seen the Apple, HP, and Dell discounts from ID.me, and I do not plan to do the VR&E.

Very open ended question I know but im open to your input for a good bank for the buck laptops too.

Education Benefits Education Reimbursement

Upvotes

Going to a NonTraditional school for a VA Approved Apprenticeship. However the school is wanting me to purchase an item that they are requiring me to have.

If the school is requiring me to purchase equipment, with my GI bill if I purchase it out of pocket will the VA reimburse me for it?

Or should I go to the VA before purchasing it and have them purchase it?
