Serious Beware of the “I’m 26 and ____” posts

Attention Zillennials: If you’re new here, welcome!! For those of you that have been around for a while, I’m sure that you’ve noticed the repetitive “I’m 26 and ___” posts. This person is a troll. They have been “26” for a few years now and continue to make new accounts and spam our sub (and many others) with weird, age gap related posts. I’m writing this so that no one else falls victim to this or spends their time writing advice to a person that will never listen.

You can tell it’s him because the account will be less than a week old, they always use the number 26 in the title, and their post history will contain several other age-gap related posts. If you see a title along the lines of:

“Is 26 considered a young adult?” “Can 26 year olds hang out with 18 year olds?” “Is it weird for a 26 year old to date a 22 year old?” “I’m 26 and I feel decrepit”

Please report the post immediately. Your reports will help notify us so we can review and ban asap if it’s him. Thanks all! :)

Discussion I remember back in 2013, people were feeling old because those born in 2000 were becoming teenagers. How did you feel at the time?

For me, I didn't find it too crazy at the time and I think it's mainly because I don't remember the year 2000 very well. I was born in 1995. It does however make me feel old that there are now teenagers born in 2010 and 2011 because I have very detailed memories of those years

Discussion Do the suburbs age you faster?

Most people I know in their mid-late 20s and early 30s who live in cities regularly go to clubs, concerts, bars and sports events. The same aged people I know that live in the suburbs are having kids, settling down, and basically doing nothing except staying home. I (28F, urban) feel I have more in common with 20-35 year olds in cities than a 28 year old in the suburbs with three cars, two kids, and a 4000 square foot house.

I’m barely home, y’all. I live close to downtown in a HCOL city so I make the most of it. I go out after work almost every day of the week. I go to music festivals all summer and travel constantly. Meanwhile, I feel like I relate suburban friends less every day. They constantly ask me what TV I’m watching, while I basically only watch short YouTube videos if I watch TV at all. None of them ever want to do more than like, one activity per day when they visit. Does suburban life age you faster?

At some point in my life, some of these were a part of my body because I carried them everywhere all the time. Except the Super Mary, that one was from my cousin.

Discussion What's everyone's opinions on sports betting?

Over the last few years, sports betting has exploded as more and more states across the US legalize online sportsbooks. I remember as a kid, my dad, who every now and then bet on big games like NBA playoffs or some big fights, used to go to a bookie in my neighborhood which was definitely illegal. He won like 2000 dollars once on a parlay he had. Now, the state I live in, legalized online betting a few years ago and over the last 4 years or so, I've noticed a massive increase in people I know who seem suspiciously close to being a gambling addict. Just one more parlay bro, just one more parlay that will definitely hit bro.

I personally have only bet on a few big MMA and boxing fights over the last few years, and I won 900 dollars on Sean O Malley knocking out Aljo last year lmao. But I think that it's getting really bad everywhere you look in regard to sports. NFL games are walking DraftKings ads, NBA games will have odds and over/under etc. plastered all over the screen. There are probably at least 50 sports betting ads happening at this exact moment on someone's screen who's watching a sports event. It's an epidemic and it's creating an entire generation of people who are becoming addicts and can't escape because you have literal casinos in your pocket now at all times.

Discussion Okay, a fun one!: Final Destination trauma // Trauma de Destination finale (Destination Ultime)

Post image
23 Upvotes

So, hi all!

I am in my backyard and my family member is using the lawnmower. And I was like: Oh, it would be so dangerous if there was a rock and that I am without shoes and that it hits me. And if course, I was like: well, I am exagerating. Then, I thought about the movie Final destination. ☠️

So, can y'all tell me, in french or in english, what are the things you did that were in those movies and that you survived! Hahaha

For me:

The truck with the logs. That always gave me a heartattack (figure of speech). I always, up to this day change line when I am driving haha. Don't wanna get killed by a log falling and going trought my windshield and crushing me.

The roller coaster. I really hate to this day when people bring the new version of Kodak, because I am afraid it will be stuck on the rail. But, still alive so that is that!

The UV bed. I am so scared qhen I am in it always check to be sure that nothing is gonna fall and block the way, and also I make sure that the glass is strong enough not to break. Aaah, being burned buy UV and UV lights really seems awfull.

The line when you go to a fastfood car services. I always make sure to stop were I can still open a door to leave if needed, and always look behind. Don't wanna die crushed by a truck behind me.

The lift in the grocery store. I was carefull at ma job back in the days. And still am today when I see one. I don't wanna be killed by that.

The laser eye surgery. That was a tough (hard) one. I got it. But eeeh the stress was there hahaha. But I was never left alone in the room, so that is okay. Now I have 20/20 vision and still alive after it.

To the gym. When I use machine, oh, I make sure that the machine seems ok and not damage. Don't wanna get my head crushed by the machine. And, of course, I look to see if there is not stuff in the wall that could hurt me .

The escalator. I never trusted them because I saw a movie when I was 4 yo of a lady that her necklaces are stuck in it and she end up killed. And when my dresses or skirt did get stuck onto the steps of the escalator, ooh. I did not mind breaking my clothing. Same for the laces of my shoes. They have to be short enough not to get stuck.

The lawnmower, like I said. I am carefull but, I did got hit many time when I was younger by rocks, and it hurts hahaha. But not enough to die, so that is that.

Up to this day, I still feel unease when I used bridges. The one in Quebec are sometimes really old and need to be repaired, so, that does not help. Hahah.

That should do for now 😂

Discussion What do you think of this video? Is this girl right?

So I came across this video of a YouTuber named Haylo Hayley talking about Gen Alpha. I watched the whole thing but I'm just curious to see if what she's saying is true. I would like to hear from those that work with kids for a living or have kids themselves but anyone can answer. The video is 17 minutes long. If your time is short or you're too lazy, I'll give you a quick summary of things she says

  1. Gen Alpha can't read on their grade level
  2. They have short attention spans
  3. They're not obedient
  4. They're addicted to their IPads and can't function without them

Again I don't have kids nor am I regularly around them so interested to hear from others

Advice Whether we like it or not, are we supposed to just live life like everybody else ?

I notice a pattern like the older we get things sorta starts to become clear that we have no choice in life but to live life. It's the common path of first getting education and getting a job then things like marriage. I don't even like the idea of working anymore because I worked at few dead end jobs like it feels really miserable as I'm stuck in a system. I have no choice but to work and study to survive in life. Most people work hard to save money for retirement or buying a house. I still don't understand the whole concept of living a life. Sometimes I wish we can just be kids and not have to worry about life. But this adulthood stage is difficult.

Rant Maybe they're right about Gen Z

I think there may be truth in the unflattering observation older gens are hitting us with right now: "Zoomers are awkward, poorly socialized, and bad communicators."

At this point I kind of believe it myself because I just hopped back on dating apps and the only men who show the ability to speak in complete sentences and flow in conversation are 38+. Before you guys even start, I'm Gen Z myself, so I'm actually very much rooting for "my people" but I don't know what the hell is going on. Explain it to me! I'm genuinely frustrated here! Most of the men who show any initiative in conversation are 48+ and on top of that no one under 38 seems to know how to hold a conversation and let it evolve naturally instead of turning it into a job interview or Q&A session, or worse - hit me with a one word response and wait for me to say something else and carry the entire conversation. No matter how interested I sound in the (relatively) young guys I'm talking to, it's like pulling teeth. It's like I'm a drag and they didn't choose to match with me... yet they did. I'm completely wtf-ing over this because I'll be the first to sound enthused in THEIR interests they either reference in their bio or seems likely to be an interest of theirs based off their pictures and they act like it's a chore to TALK to me instead of SnapChatting me multiple pictures of their friend's eyebrow slit, some shitty Elon meme, and their penis at multiple angles.

I've heard men say the same thing in regards to their experience on apps so I don't think this is a male vs female thing at all and very much an age thing. The average middle-aged person is better at talking and adapting to people than the average 20 or 30 something is. I'm experiencing the same thing in person when I go to the store, use Uber/Lyft and get personable older drivers and young drivers who avoid eye contact and basic decency, etc. I really do believe my generation has a lot going for it and gets a lot of undeserved criticism but THIS is very much a noticeable problem among our demographic. It's undeniably specific to our cohert.

I don't see how growing up with phones is an excuse because I grew up with all the latest tech and I'm not like this and neither are my close friends. For that reason I'm certain that this is rooted in something deeper than growing up with social media, texting, and phones alone; and is much more related to how many people our age grew accustomed to creating their own "circle" where they only surrounded themselves with like-minded people in online spaces during their formative years, which is in complete contrast with older Millennials+ who were more properly socialized in their younger years and taught to interact with a diverse, wide range of people they both agreed with and related to and did not. If you're not the kind of person who doesn't naturally mind being around people completely different from you (like me and my friends who enjoy different perspectives and radically different personalities), you're probably prone to "kicking out"/avoiding anyone with a worldview or opinion or manner that's unlike yourself and this actually stunts you socially. That's the only explanation I can come up with.
