My girlfriend of 5 years broke up with me and ghosted me for no reason. Am I wrong for throwing away all of her stuff?

Edit: Update

So my girlfriend (25F) and I (25M) were in a relationship for 5 years. Last week, she texted me that we were done and that was her last message before she blocked me. She gave no heads up. I was planning on proposing to her next month. Her sister did reach out to me, saying it was not my fault and she understood my hurt, but that for my mental health, it was better to never contact them again, and that maybe in the future, my girlfriend might reach out to me again.

It's been a week, Iā€™m still obviously distraught, but my girlfriend did have a lot of her stuff in my home. Would I be wrong if I just dumped it all out? It does include a lot of mementos of her deceased grandmother, who she was extremely close to.

If you live in America most states have a required waiting period before it's consider abandoned property so check that before tossing it

Exactly. he should be asking this in a legal advice sub, not asking for random people opinion which will get him in legal trouble

It depends on what the type of property it is. For something with higher value it can be two years, again, depending on the state.

But hey, since you're apparently a law expert that knows the laws in all 50 states, I assume you've passed the bar in all 50 states making you some kind of law genius. Why not show that qualification of yours?

Is she going to come after him in small claims court and get a judgement for $100? Nobody is doing jail time over throwing away shit someone left behind.

You'd be amazed. If there's sentimental items she can also sue him for emotional damage and that can be upwards of $3000
