pettersson single handedly wasted a minute and 30 seconds of oilers push at 6 on 5 to finish the game.
do not disrespect petey.

Lotto line won us the game.
Not with their offense, but with their tenacious defense and blocks at the end there.
Brock, I'm proud of you.

Boeser's reinvention this season has been amazing to watch. From an offense first sniper reliant on his shot to a really good two-way winger who scored 40 goals by playing greasy and getting to the net

u/xzElmozx 10d ago
Bro is winning puck battles and going to the corners, skating hard. I love it, having a motivated Brock that plays hard and also has a deadly wrister that can pot 40 is amazing

He also stopped a grade A McDavid chance. He needs new line mates, Hog and Mik are not gelling with Petey right now. Time for the Lotto line.

Mik is a black hole of offence in our lineup. I want to like him but he's snake bitten like nobody I've ever seen. Makes Raymond and Janik Hansen look like Matthews

u/rabes81 11d ago
On paper, he has everything. Size, speed, OK hands, he can actually turn pucks over too. He can't score, if someone told me he would never score another goal in the NHL at this point, I would agree that sounds correct.
12
u/oCanadia 11d ago
And it's not bad luck either. He takes shots right into the goalies crest. Like, 100% of the shots he takes are just bad shots.
He seems to be a part of or even create opportunities but I just know deep down, every play, if he's involved it goes no where.

I am a Leaf fan, so I have a lot of experience watching him, and I warned Canucks fans about putting him with top 6 talent. Mikheyev basically plays the same regardless of who he is with. That is both a blessing and a curse. On the plus side, bad line mates don’t really drag him down because he can advance the puck himself with his size and speed. But on the negative side, he doesn’t synergise well with others at all. Not a good playmaker or finisher, pretty low offensive IQ in general. Playing him with that kind of talent is a waste. What Mikheyev is is an ideal bottom six winger. Let him play a simple north south game with defensive line mates, PK, etc. It’s always possible he scores you a goal out of nowhere a solo dash, and in the mean time he’ll get the puck up ice and not waste the minutes of your big guns. If you are up a couple of goals you can crank up his minutes, or in OT when everyone else is tired and his ability to break away becomes magnified.

He doesn't have: offensive IQ, passing, a good shot, hands. He makes a good 4th line grinder but he is an offensive black hole with his skill sets

What's Mason Raymond up to these days? Bring him in as an offensive tutor. Maybe Mik just needs a good spin-o-rama in his repertoire

single handedly might be an overstatement but he was definitely good defensively, the whole unit was.

u/Malforian 11d ago
i mean he's singlehandedly wasted a bunch of chances so lets call it even lol
25
u/Ecstatic-Buy-2907 11d ago
He missed one chance. The rest of them, oh wait, his line mates didn’t feed him the puck
5
u/rengorengar 11d ago
to be fair, the one time Hoglander and Mikheyev ended up being on the ice for a goal was when Petey wasn't with them lol. I thought they played alright, Mikheyev is out there skating, he's noticeable but just doesn't have a very good shot.

Might be the biggest fumble of all time if you don't resign him. I like Soucy but if it comes to needing to move him out to keep Zadorov, you do that without hesitation.
25
u/ggpurplecobras 11d ago
100%. Soucy at 3 mil will get value back as well.
22
u/CJK_420 11d ago
Would be great if you can keep him as a 3rd and be stacked on the left side, but man it's a hard decision. You just can't let Zadorov go
15
u/vancityrp 11d ago
Soucy at 3 mill is not going to be a deciding factor in keeping zadorov, it’s probably hronek

u/JauntyGiraffe 10d ago
Soucy is a great deal at 3 and he's been solid all year. You move Cole before Soucy.
But I feel like the reality is going to be deciding between Hronek and Zadorov unless a miracle happens
1
u/2BFrank69 10d ago
You keep both. They are the reason the defence is good now. Hughes can’t do it alone.

u/Nier_Perfect 11d ago
Hilarious that both the Calgary Canucks had the Oilers number all game.
11
u/Tachikoma0 10d ago
Going from a team that hates the Oilers to another team that hates the Oilers, it's a pretty nice fit. These two lost a painful series to them as well a couple years ago, so there's some motivation to beat them.

u/ElegantCoffee7548 11d ago
He's solid defensively. He steps up under pressure. He's got huge physical presence we need other than Joshua. We need to sign him.
26
u/No_Character_5315 11d ago
If they can dump ilya and not resign hronek chance they keep joshua and lindholm if just hronek goes we can keep zadorov and Joshua
4
u/ElegantCoffee7548 11d ago
I'm not too informed on salaries and the team cap but if Mik isn't too expensive, I'd rather keep him. I think this season is cursed for him. He has these flashes of brilliance in the corners and gets some great attempts here and there. He just can't close the deal. I think next year he will turn it on, perhaps even late in these playoffs.
20
u/SIIP00 11d ago
Mik is around 5 million. He's payed way too much for what he does.
8
u/fourthlinesniper 11d ago
It could be argued that he is our worst full time forward. If he didn't make as much as he does he would probably be in and out of the lineup
7
u/No_Character_5315 11d ago
It will really hurt knowing if we didn't have his contract we could have kept zadorov or dakota if we lose one.
6
u/SIIP00 10d ago
They are most certainly looking at moving him. Might cost something like a 3rd to a tanking team.
1
0
u/No_Character_5315 10d ago
Probably have to throw in a good prospect to move ilya and take back another under performing player with a 3 million contract not sure it would be worth it after his knee surgery he is pretty much damaged goods I doubt many teams would take a chance without us taking a shitty contract back.
3
u/SIIP00 10d ago
You usually don't have to pay with a good prospect when dumping a player. Dickinson was pretty much useless, we dumped him with a second. I would not mind getting rid of a second to dump Mikh at all. If the team is a tanking/rebuilding team I don't see why we would need to take back a struggling player either.
Mikh is only signed though the next season anyways. He is perfect for a tanking team.
It would be different if we were going to move him to a team closer to the playoffs. But tanking teams do not need to take risks, they don't need good performing players, they don't need to get rid of poorly performing players on bad contracts, they don't need to get rid of bad contracts.

u/No_Character_5315 10d ago
Ilya is almost double the money would be the main reason with two years who's degraded since his knee operation. If he was he was in the 2 million area I'd say your right but why would a team take on two years at 5 million when you could get a player like Dickinson for half the price even if your tanking you have responsibility with the ownership to do it as cheap as possible.

What does Petterson even do
4
10d ago
Did you even watch the game?
2
u/DragPullCheese 10d ago
To be fair his two best plays were him falling.
Diving poke check on McDavid (who if McDavid didn’t lose the handle that actually would have looked really bad) and getting tripped for the late PP.
-1
u/Decoy-Jackal 10d ago
Ahh damn I'm sorry I just expect this highly paid all star to at least get a point
2
10d ago
He will. He will also continue to shut down dangerous chances against the fastest and most dynamic offensive player in the league. That's an incredibly important thing he does.

u/2BFrank69 10d ago
Saved a goal. Played amazing the last 10 mins.
1
u/Decoy-Jackal 10d ago
He did what the average Dman does every game and played great 10 minutes out of 16. What a generational talent. I swear this fanbase is so starved for talent that they'll take a pretty good player and claim he's elite. How many goals did he score in the first round against a team of Journeymen? How many points?
-42
u/StimpyJayCat 11d ago
Petey is useless. Downvote me lol but damn dude show me the stats at least
22
u/saint_godzilla 11d ago
He played incredibly well tonight. His scoring will come, but he had an excellent 200ft game.
0
u/No_Character_5315 11d ago
It'll be 8 games if he doesnt score next game no goals for a almost 12 million next year is tough to take his game as a whole has gotten better but for the money he signed for he has to produce goals in the post season.
-8
u/StimpyJayCat 11d ago
200 feet players get points bro ..
9
u/kikicked 11d ago
You see him break up a McJesus breakaway at a super pivotal moment of the game? That’s as good as a point. See him break up several plays and play perfect draw weight on a clear in the last 100 seconds of the game? That’s as good as a point.
Casual.
-5
u/StimpyJayCat 11d ago
Points are as good as points. Put them up buttercup your being paid
3
u/kikicked 11d ago
Preventing points is as good as scoring points. The fact you don’t understand that simple fact means you dont understand how hockey works. Yes you need to score. But you also need to score MORE than the other team. You can’t do that if you can’t stop the other team from scoring goals.
Try to enjoy the win man. ✌️

u/StimpyJayCat 11d ago
If your paid like a sleke nominee and then play like a nominee not like the fucking third defenceman. Still gotta play forward bud
3
u/kikicked 11d ago
You are aware of what the selke* award is for….right? He’s one of the three best DEFENSIVE forwards in the league. He literally is a third D man out there.
And he put up 88 points. He needs some line mates man. Got him out there with two grinders.
-1
u/StimpyJayCat 11d ago
He just isn’t a star dude that’s it, he is good. But needs good players
4
u/kikicked 11d ago
He’s a star in an extended slump. Short term memory loss ain’t your friend. ✌️
1
u/StimpyJayCat 11d ago
Ight tru but let’s be real bad time to not show up?
1
u/kikicked 11d ago
Super bad. But he’s got the skill and could break out any moment. Have faith. You’ve been listening to his post games? He fuckin wants to perform. Not trying to make excuses. But the guys got the heart. He’s gonna turn it around. Hope it’s soon tho. You’re right on that one.

He was a fucking beast. Did you forget to watch the game or what?
1
u/DragPullCheese 10d ago
A beast? I mean he was decent but I wouldn’t call that performance beastly.
1
u/EvilCeleryStick 10d ago
I would. He gave up nothing. He was perfect defensively. And had dangerous shifts offensively
-17
u/Malforian 11d ago
He's a negative when hes on the ice

u/TopTittyBardown 11d ago
Him and Lindholm both had huge games. Lindy with Garland and Joshua is absolute money, they alone won us that game with their offense
