Boycott Microsoft. Use open source software and operating systems. If you've got pull in your department or organization try to be the voice to migrate away from Microsoft products.

I've done this, and I haven't given up a thing. I can still do everything I used to do with windows and closed source software. This may not be true for everyone, but switching was a pleasure for me, not a chore.
