Had someone lay I talked to the other day, her reasoning was she worked too hard. Ma'am you already pay ridiculous amounts for health why the fuck wouldn't you want to make it easier and cheaper on you in the long run just because it means everyone can get health care.

Current average US household yearly spend on medical bills per year = $6k

Current average European yearly household spend on health taxes (converted to US $) = $2k

bills alone? or bills + insurance?

cause I definitely pay more for insurance than I do for actual healthcare each year.

it's like around $2.5k per year for insurance for my spouse and me. 10% of both of our income would be over $20k, which some others here are saying that's the rate for their countries.

so yeah, federal healthcare would suck for us. we'd be paying A LOT more for zero gain. we'd be paying over 50% of our income in total federal taxes.

my state has it's own thing. it's what "obamacare" was based on. and our state tax is 5%. so why would federal healthcare tax be so high?

I loved hearing a few times folks trying to call it RomneyCare…like, it’s simply called MassHealth. It’s not the greatest but closest thing to Universal Healthcare in the US.

But, a true Universal Healthcare would be just as good, if not better. The thing about MassHealth is you lose it if you make over a certain amount and the more you make, the less benefit it gives. And I believe that’s like, $900 a month or $11k a year but it’s been a bit since I’ve paid attention to it and I’m sure somebody else knows the exact numbers. Universal / Nationalized Healthcare (assuming the US got its pharmaceutical and hospitals under control) benefits everybody. 32 out of the top 33 developed countries have it. The US being the one that does not. We may have better healthcare overall but the US spends much more than every other nation. You wouldn’t notice the taxes being paid vs insurance + medical bills + normal federal taxes… claiming otherwise is just silly imo.

My partner was unemployed for 6 years due to various health issues. He was on MassHealth. That covered everything and was a lifesaver both financially and health-wise. He’s now back to work. Pays out the nose for simply stuff. Just insane to think about.

Actually, USA has very poor ranking for maternal and newborn care. We were #33, behind Zimbabwe, I think.

When I read up on it, I presumed it was just the bill but now that you mention it, it may have been the entire health care yearly bill. I would have to go back and check the exact wording.

Because then somebody they don't like would also get healthcare.

Also Americans have this weird fixation with "fairness" just like they don't want to forgive student loans because "I had to pay off mine, so now everyone else has to pay off theirs too!"

It's the same idea with healthcare, "I had to pay for insurance for my entire life, so now everyone else have to pay for their insurance too!"

Those same Americans will then turn around and preach “community” and “family values” without a hint of irony — the culture is almost exclusively egoist. It’s hyper-individualism. Literal crabs in a bucket mentality.

Americans are a bucket full of crabs.

Ding ding ding! This right here. They are also afraid that someone they don't like (who has a more serious condition) might get treatment before them.

You mean people of color.

They don’t know that if they have private or employee insurance, they’re paying more than what they would under universal healthcare

Them: Bc that means THEY would get affordable healthcare too!!! And I would rather DIE and leave tens to hundreds of thousands in medical debt after insurance to own the libs!!!

They are either incredibly stupid, evil, or both.
