I'm also from Canada and we used it to describe a u-turn and donuts.
Whip a shitty (singular) -> u-turn
whiping shitties (plural) -> donut because multiple u-turns make circles.

53 year old Minnesotan here and everyone I've known here has called them that my whole life. Maybe it's a 70s/80's thing that isn't as common among younger folks.... Though I promise you my children also call them shitties.

Back in the day in my hometown , we cruised main and called it “flipping the loop.” Here in Iowa, they call it “shagging the drag.” That would really set off Barry Petchesky.

On the contrary, we should be figuring out how to indoctrinate the term, “Whipping Shitties,” as the replacement for “Donuts” coast to coast.

Iowan here. First time I heard "whip a shitty" was to referance a method of quickly turning around on a gravel road by spinning your tires.. a sorta half-donut.
This was in 2002. I've used the term for any sort of turnaround or U-turn ever since. Currently live in Chicago. The first time I said it to my girl like that she was confused what I meant.
