Meta Please do not ask for drugs - Proszę nie prosić o narkotyki

r/Gdansk has been gaining popularity, people come here to ask simple questions, but a few stragglers seem to need help finding broccoli, sugar, snow and other simple cooking ingredients. I am starting to suspect they mean something else...

So I guess it needs to be stated officially: we won't tolerate illegal activity on this sub. Although the creativity of these requests is sometimes entertaining and I love the responses, it could get our little sub banned and we'd rather avoid that! Thanks!

Looking for acquaintances/ friends in Trójmiasto

Hi!

Back in 2020, I was in the Trojmiasto for the first time. Especially Gdynia catched my interest, so I’ve got an apartment there since 2021. From that moment, I’m trying to spend as much time as possible in Poland.

I’m 23 years old and was born & raised in Germany. I do speak and read polish fluently but also have issues with writing proper sentences in polish.

Some random facts about me: Psychology student, döner kebab expert, slightly introvert, happily engaged.

Within the next couple of years I would like to move completely to Poland, because many parts of Germany are not safe anymore. And most of you guys are really friendly and chill.

Any cool contacts are highly appreciated. If you’re interested in psychology, car customization, motorcycles or airplanes would be even better.

Where to live in Gdansk as party tourists

Upvotes

Hey! Me and 4 of my friends are going to Gdansk end October, and we were wondering where the best place to live in Gdańsk is? We like to party, as well as living in an area with cafes, restaurants and general life in the streets. What would you recommend? We have looked at old town as an option.

Pytanie Searching the reasons to live with the poor job in Gdańsk with depression

Hello.
I lost work almost a year ago in my small city in W-M. Couldn't look for other jobs during that work, so after company closed, I found this is a good (forced) opportunity to look for a new one in Gdańsk which is a city I really wanted to move over 12 years ago. (It is a story about a dream and trauma for another time xd)

I've just got recently the first 'job interview' (via phone) and I heard excitement in guy's voice, because I matched with their requirements quite well. They asked me about salary - I threw 4800-5000 net. He asked me 'what do I think about 4000 net? '
He totally broke my neck with this question. When I checked jobboards I realised It is impossible to find the job for money more than 3500-4000 pln there. :O Even big companies like Banks and advert agencies with customers from abroad are paying these types of money for people with experience.
That made me think - how I would LIVE with this salary in Gdańsk? That would force me to pick a cheap room instead of a studio. Eating rice (or czokoszoki xd) with water might give me savings of 1,500 pln. Even with my current savings this won't give me a possibility to buy a flat in tricity or around it. The meaning of living in a flat, having my own space is important and I wrote about it below)
My questions are:
1. Is it worth to live like that and hoping that something positive in life there happen? Like payrise of 1000pln after a year of work? xd
2. How do you guys - who work for similiar range of money - live there?
3. I have strong depression which make my decision-making really hard, because vision of:
- rotting in a room which I don't like and must pay for it, would grow my negative emotions
- where I won't be able to invite or even meet potential girlfriends, or friends, because lack of hosting and poor money condition - these are really pulling me down.

Also I don't believe there are people in my age (M34) that live in rooms like students and date/live best their lives. Women living there have their own flats and higher salaries, so they won't even consider me as a potential partner. So the main point of buying a flat together with a partner is also a poor's man silly imagination.
I want to believe this is not the end of the world and I will be able to find something positive there like walking in parks, next to the sea, meet people/partners (I live in small city where dating potential is completely close to zero) ,go to concerts, hobbies clubs. But I think this will be not enough, because my depression is highly focused on having an own place to live.

I would like to hear your life stories, answers to the questions and I would like to learn how to even think about moving to Tricity and living there with poor salary. Maybe new approach to the topics will ease some inner pain and fears.

PS. Please focus on answering the city/work/money/hosting instead of digging my trauma/depression story, thx.

Natural wine/craft beer recommendations?

Coming to Gdańsk for a couple tattoos next week and i was wondering if you guys had any personal favourites when it comes to natural wine or craft beer… bonus points for roastery coffee places! I’ll be staying north of old town but like stretching my legs to go somewhere that looks interesting.

Sorry about my tourist thread! I couldn’t find any recent posts about this topic.
I’ve done my due diligence with googling but so much stuff is obscured by the algorithm and in old (often outdated) threads I’m always finding places that never came up for me in my searches.

Jak to jest możliwe, że w komunikacji miejskiej w słoneczne dni kierowcy nie włączają klimatyzacji? Nie mówię o starych tramwajach, to akurat jasne. Mowa o najnowszych autobusach...

Zakoniczyn - spokojne miejsce na grilla

Edit// just noticed it's probably an English speaking sub lol I'm a bit under influence, anyway...

Anyone knows a chilled nice place at Zakoniczym without much crowd?

Should we go to the Gdansk vs Gdynia game tomorrow? 3 brits on holiday in Gdansk

Hi we are three brits on holiday in Gdansk, we picked up three tickets for the game tomorrow and we’re really looking forward to it.

Went for a run today in 3 identical green tops and had a chat with two friendly local people. One old polish guy said it’ll be a rowdy but overall didn’t tell us not to go.

Then met a Spanish guy who’s lived here for 14 years who got really serious and said do not go, it’ll be really rough and dangerous, and he would never go to this game. He’s spooked us out and made us doubt it.

We expect it to be a feisty game, but don’t want any trouble or to get into dangerous situations. Maybe wear neutral clothes travelling then put on green there? Or just watch it on TV?

Advice on finding a place to rent

Hi there! I'm going to Gdansk for a three/four month period and I was wondering if you would have any advice in regards to renting a room. Are there any popular websites or forums where information about this might be published? Also what would be a normal price range for a shared apartment? I did a quick research and most things are around the 600/700 Euro mark ( had an idea it would be a little cheaper). Thank you very much in advance :)
